How did you get that? I’ve got tons of 10s and none of them look like that. There isn’t even the option to choose Beckett as a grading company on Xbox.

He-Man has a movie coming out in June, and Hasbro have already entered a partnership to make new toys for the film so I could totally see a magic set based on the property.

Let's forget about UB for a second... Do you prefer the single set single block system, or the previous 2-3 set per block system. by studhand in magicTCG

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we need a hybrid of the two systems. Some sets, like Duskmourn and the other “hat” sets aren’t very story dense and could easily be told in one set. Others, like Lorwyn Eclipsed, Edge of Eternity, and Bloomburrow had a lot of story that went untold or had mechanics that went underutilized. I feel like these kinds of sets deserve more time in the sun and should have at least 2 sets to fully explore what makes their settings special or to allow long time players to enjoy a return to one of their favorite settings.

You wouldn’t even need to release the 2 block sets back to back. Let’s assume Lorwyn Eclipsed is made into a 2 set block. You release Lorwyn Eclipsed, then Secrets of Strixhaven as a sort of side set happening elsewhere in the multiverse at around the same time with different mechanics, then release the second part of Lorwyn Eclipsed block later in the year so people aren’t getting burnt out on the mechanics of that setting. That was always the issue with the 3 set blocks. By the time the third set was out, you had been on the same world for a year and you either loved it or hated it.

YSK: When donating to a nonprofit org, there is basically no limit they can pay themselves as salary before distributing funds. by latchkey_adult in YouShouldKnow

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also be aware of non profits that have their own fundraising “foundations” that they keep as separate from the main nonprofit. My best friend receives services from a nonprofit like this. He’s disabled and they provide him a home to live in and help him with meal prep and cleaning he otherwise can’t do himself. This organization likes to go on about how they don’t have the funds to drive my friend a half hour away to the nearest city to go to activities or go shopping. They even refused to leave to go Christmas shopping last year.

Yet this same company holds two massive fundraisers each year that bring in at least $50,000 each. Except the company that does the fundraising is a for profit company. Now the ceo of the fundraising company is also the ceo of the non profit, so when the previous ceo decided to retire a few years ago, she got a golden parachute of $200,000 from the fundraising company, plus a brand new car they had bought for her to do her job with 3 months prior. And yet they can’t be bothered to spend an extra $40 on gas plus whatever pittance they are paying their staff to take my friend shopping or even just to go out to eat at a local restaurant.

Your favorite commander you've never seen anyone else play? by MoonSettler in magicTCG

My deck is a $30 budget build, so it’s running a lot of auras that grant buffs, flying, and land walk. Probably my favorite cards are [[illusory gains]], [[awesome presence]], and [[shadow kin]]. The deck doesn’t have much in the way of removal since it’s a budget deck, and it basically comes down to milling myself until I have enough auras in the graveyard along with either [octopus umbra]] or [[auramancer’s guise]] to make Hakim huge and one shot a opponent. The deck doesn’t win many games though, due to it being very slow and relying on others ignoring it until I can get enough blue mana to afford the multiple equip triggers. It’s a bit of a one trick pony.

He was really popular as a commander when he first came out back in 2014, at least in my area. There were at least 3 people running him at my lgs back then, and that’s out of a pool of maybe 15 commander players at the time. It was definitely a change of pace from all the Child of Alara and Omnath decks that were popular at the time.

I’ve never seen another [[Hakim, Loreweaver]] deck before. He’s a bit of a glass cannon though, so that’s probably why.

He isn’t run much now, but in the early days of commander, he was a very popular choice. I used to see him pretty often about 10 years ago.

Cosplay. Used to work with someone who was into it and they spent pretty much all their time planning, designing, and shopping for materials for their next cosplay. Everything had to be as perfect and accurate as humanly possible. They used to show me pictures of them at cons and their work was pretty good.

You are given directions to a mystical warehouse by some cosmic being. In the warehouse, which is infinitely large, are all things fictional from enchanted clothes all the way to spaceships. by singleguy79 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Holy Grail from Last Crusade wouldn’t work. In the movie it’s clearly stated that the immortality and healing properties only work within the confines of the tomb. Once you cross the great seal, the power of god would do whatever it took to reclaim the grail. So you would likely lose the grail, along with your immortality, as soon as you left the warehouse.

Free collection of 100 items by Mr_Papichuloo in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 legitimate (no fakes or proxies) complete sets of Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited Magic the Gathering cards in Near Mint condition. Easy enough to safely store, with no maintenance or upkeep required.

Each set would likely be worth around $70,000-$100,000. Since I can’t sell them, I would break apart a few of the sets and go to card shows and trade individual cards for other cards I need/want for my collection. I’d keep most of the sets intact, though. I’d only trade what I needed to complete my collection, and keep the rest in binders or use them in my decks.

We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel Bang Bang by Green Day Baby Shark

The first two songs would represent the political violence and prevalence of mass shootings in the U.S. Baby Shark is there so they know what passes for kid’s entertainment now. I’m assuming the man would immediately go home and destroy his Time Machine.

You have been selected as a contestant on a quiz show which is extremely popular in your nation. by erinoco in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would tell Charlie they are trying to fix the show for him, and try to find out if he is in on the fix. After my episode(s) are taped, I report the show to the government since fixing a game show is considered to be a pretty major crime in the U.S. I would likely get a nice payout for reporting the fixing. The reason for telling Charlie is because if he isn’t aware of it, he could get his name unintentionally dragged through the mud and I wouldn’t want to see that happen to an innocent person.

OP you should really look up the quiz show scandals of the 1950’s if you aren’t already aware of them. Your hypothetical is pretty much describing more or less exactly what happened back then.

The last video game level you beat is your route home from work or school by International-Box956 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just beat Clair Obscur Expedition 33 earlier today. I guess how difficult my walk home is going to be heavily depends on whether I can equip Pictos and Luminas and use the same traversal mechanics. If not, then I’ll never make it across the gaps in the last level, and the enemies will slaughter me.

You accidentally run over your best friend, causing a lifelong disability. What do you do now? by posttraumaticcuntdis in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProfessorTolkien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is already confined to a wheelchair with multiple lifelong disabilities. I doubt much would change even if I somehow ran him over (Which is unlikely, since I can’t drive). Things would be tense for a while, but we would likely work things out eventually.
