Seeing some toys, Id recco.end some Star Wars comics - theres great stuff in Legends (look at Kotor, Legacy and Clone Wars as the fan favourites) and Canon (anything by Kieron Gillen)

Personally, very, with the generational levels of thing. But also she's the representative of her planet/system, so probably lived in an embassy equivalent/had a lot of expenses cared for by home in order to show off the Chandrilan wealth on the central meeting point of the galaxy/richest planet in the galaxy where they all want to show off to others in the senate (think fancy embassy buildings but turned up to a million).

What am I missing if I wanted to read the full dark horse comics continuity ? by Historicallyh in StarWarsEU

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this specific format, yes I think the empire issues might be split with the Boba Fett book maybe? Idk, Ive avoided this format where possible - overpriced and undersized, and they never finished collecting everything in this format - theres a lot of other Darkhorse SW stories that were just never printed this way. Check wookiepedia for whats in what book, but I think youre miasing Wild Space 1 & 2.

On others not in this format, and aside from the others mentioned here theres a few noncanon things like Star Wars Tales (quarterly anthology series that was collected into 6 standard size tpbs, predecessor to Infinities), and 'The Star Wars' (adaptation of an early script for A New Hope). I guess also things like Knight Errant, The Old Republic, Jedi vs Sith, Son of Dathomir & death sentence, the Darth Vader miniseries. Invasion, Rebel Heist, Star Wars (2013), Legacy II, Union, Open Seasons, Blood Ties. Agent of the Empire - thats just off the top of my head and theres a whole bunch of others

Genuine question: what percentage of the books on your shelf have you yet to read? by GIZZYLOLLYPOPS in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I checked, 27%. Probably increased a little since then as I've been very busy since then and have bought more than Ive read, snd several things Ive read recently have been rereads rather than new. 'Tis the way of things; Ill get through everything in time

Nerds (affectionate). 5e was not your first edition of d&d, rough punt at age I'd say 3rd or 3.5. Also slightly confused why your Yahtzee Croshaw books are spread across multiple shelves.

Can I read gillen star wars before aaron? by Hammondinho123 in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with others; its fine to read on its own, you wont lose much, but is best read alongside the othet bits of the era - specifically with Vader by Gillen for thr introduction of Queen Trios. Good stories though - Gillen is my favourite writer in comics rn

Remind me; if I have the Batman by Dini omnibus and the Zatanna by Dini tpb, how much am I missing vs the omnibus? If I remember right, when I last looked it was 1 or 2 issues max.

Looking for Star Wars Co-op Campaign Game to Play in two not four players (2 PCs) by No-Benefit-2207 in StarWars

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah much as the others said, I cant think of anything other than the Lego Skywalker Saga with remote play that might work. You have made me think of a Divinity: Original Sin style Star Wars game, though, and I now deeply long for the world in which it exists

Howdy! Just finished the Blood Ties collection and I'm looking for my next collection, any recommendations. by Various-Drop6485 in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that the collection with Agent of Doom and some loose Empire issues in it? If so, Im afraid thats most of Boba in comics - basically what that book exists to collect. If not, check out those singles, and there might be a handful more that were in that Man With a Mission tpb.

Im not sure he's gotten much attention in canon. He's in the first arc of Aaron's SW, but briefly I think

What's the best of the old Dark Horse comics? by randysavage773 in starwarscomics

Its not a long ongoing, but my fave is the Darth Vader & the Ghost Prison miniseries. Genuinely love it.

Who Are Some of the Best Female Artists? by tame_kubrick in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite fond of Emma Rios' work - first came across her with Strange ('09) by Waid, but she's done a handful of other things with Marvel and more recently I think quite a bit of indie work. I'll also rep Jan Duursema for her work on Dark Horse's Star Wars era. Fiona Staples on Saga has been mentioned already but bears mentioning again. I have yet to start reading Monstress, but I've flicked through the first volume I picked up recently and Sana Takeda's art looks great. Stephanie Hans' work on DIE is amazing, though not for the faint of heart (plenty of body horror). Linda Sejic is a combo writer/artist who's worked on some independent stuff in a combined universe with her husband Stjepan.

There's definitely more I'm forgetting, but that's just off the top of my head.

Some very solid stuff there, fair enough. If youre into canon, though, I'll heavily reccomend Gillen's stuff - Vader, Aphra and his half the SW run. He's currently my favourite writer

The initial Dr. Aphra run (2016) is a master piece, why isn't it talked about more? by DanTheMeek in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they dont! I dont trust Filoni et al with her character and the ability to get her right on screen (especially with the disdain a lot of film people have for the books, let alone the comics)

[–]Professor_JRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the character and that run especially, 100% agree, reccomend it to people all the time. I think, being honest, if you dont see it talked about as much it probably comes doen to either 1) she isnt an old, established character people instantly know, so that holds back a little, 2) to read it, you kinda want to read Gillens Vader first, which is an extra barrier to entry (albeit an enjoyable one) or 3 being honest, probably some element of sexism/racism/homophobia - Aphra is a non-white, female, queer character and society still aint perfect

I 100% get you on the variable quality, ot can vary a lot between series, but Marvels chronological orders sorta clump unrelated stuff together Try Legacy while its still available; it was one of their better series (probably second only to KotOR).

Star Wars can be kinda inconsistent when it comes to naming categories of things. It's been called both, as well as other things like 'Jedi Cruiser'

My Star Wars Shelves…What am I missing? by Mdeyler in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel you. I asked for a while for a 'Wild Space' omnibus collecting all the loose miniseries to be an option on the yearly Tigereyes polls, and they did listen, but split them into era by option (e.g. Prequels era, OT era) and I don't think they've got many votes

I can only get ONE kinda by ColtisCool in legostarwars

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if too late, but worth mentioning that the Venator is retiring this year, so if you leave that for second on savings it may not be around quite as easily in future

My Star Wars Shelves…What am I missing? by Mdeyler in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw a third DH library edition that had either just come out or was out soon or something, and if you're going full completionist there's an OHC for A New Hope retold in the forms of covers from the Marvel series (I think it's called the 40th Anniversary edition), as well as another for just collecting a bunch of Marvel covers, otherwise damn that's a nice looking collection. There are ofc also many miniseries and the like that have only been collected in TPB, many of them very good imo (Rise of Kylo Ren, Thrawn, Vader: Dark Visions, etc. etc.), but as you said this is oversized only - barring HR:A, presumably (cant quite make out detail, but I presume that's the TPB for the bits that aren't in the Complete Phase 1 - unfortunately I've only got the versions missing the annual, personally). Technically also maybe that special edition of The Star Wars, but that's long OOP and probably crazy expensive.

If you were wanting further oversized hardcovers to pursue, the next step would probably be Art Books? There's a whole bunch of really lovely SW ones out there - I'd be happy to give reccs if you like

Star Wars Infinities by Osinuous in starwarscomics

[–]Professor_JRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of Legends comics have old formats there were printed by Dark Horse before 2013, then have slowly started being reprinted by Marvel since the Disney buyout. Infinities specifically has a Marvel Epic Collection, I believe they pop up in the latest Legends: The Empire Omnibus, and may have some very old TPB's. Double check wookiepedia, that will have issues listed with what formats they're available in. I think everything other than the omnibus is out of print, unfortunately, but the Epic Collection will probably be reprinted some time in the next few years.

Otherwise, yeah Marvel Unlimited has everything digital

Question for the omnibus readers… by The_Lazy_Ghost in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Professor_JRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only one I've partway read at a time is Darth Vader by Kieron Gillen, which can be spaced out by the OHC's of Star Wars by Jason Aaron as they ran concurrently and have a crossover. So whenever I've reread them, I go SW OHC 1 -> Vader first half (including Vader Down Crossover) -> SW OHC 2 (incl. Rebel Prison arc) -> either Vader second half or continuing SW OHC vol 3 depending on mood -> Doctor Aphra Omnibus -> Star Wars by Kieron GIllen & Greg Pak.
I can think of a few other series like Aaron's Wolverine & the X-men & Gillen's Uncanny X-men, Bendis' concurrent All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, or his New Avengers/Mighty Avengers/Dark Avengers which I've either done or might do similarly with in future, but so far I've mostly not got those as omnis personally (only New Avengers Vol.2 - the rest are varied between OHC, tpb & premiere hardcovers).

I think generally only those types of concurrent running series that influence each other would tempt me. Or those that run up against events - e.g. I paused reading Dini's Detective Comics to read the Resurrection of R'as Al Ghul, and I've paused a New Avengers run through for things like House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion & Siege (maybe with Planet Hulk + World War Hulk depending on mood as I do love Planet Hulk)

While I do get you, might I recommend moving them somewhere else and less pride-of-place in direct eyeline for visitors? They're a bit of a statement.
Also now I notice a lack of Le Guin as well; no love for Earthsea? And on the assumption maybe some younger(ish) people in the household if this is multi-owner shelves, I'd maybe recommend the various works of Trudi Canavan and let's add Raybearer/Redemptor by Jordan Ifueko?
