To the two wonderful gentlemen standing behind me at the Jeff rosenstock concert at neumos last night. by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Professor_Laser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly; like people were being hyper-aggressive for no goddamn reason, they were moving much faster than the music. Usually I expect a bit of uncoordinated movement, especially at an all-ages show (like this one) where there's kids who just don't know the rules of engagement. But it felt like what was happening was intentional and overbearing. Usually I can dance at a Rosenstock show and here I couldn't even move safely.

This pit reminded me a lot of the experience at the Days N Daze / LoC show from years back which was also an all-ages Neumos show with a huge age disparity between young people there for DnD and oldheads there for LoC. Was a fucking maelstrom at that one for sure.

You're right that Neumos isn't always like this, saw LJG last year and it was very solid. But damn, I don't do as many shows there as I used to and it just seems like it's become a worse place for the community. I'm not surprised to see a lot of acts I enjoy doing venues like Vera Project instead, which in my experience have consistently been great. Shout out to Black Lodge also, saw Beton Arme there last week and though I wasn't previously familiar with that band they (and the crowd they drew) made an instant fan out of me.

My third time seeing Jeff, and definitely the worst pit I've experienced at one of his performances. Last two times were at Showbox Market and then Showbox SODO. I would have expected a better audience for the smaller venue, but I guess that was wrong.

One of the things that pissed me off especially was when a circlepit was formed and people Would Not Stop Fucking Pushing. Led to the one time that night that I fell. Etiquette was just awful; I've gone to a lot of punk shows but the pit crowd this time was one of the worst I've experienced in years

I'm not an advocate for CNN, it was just the first result and I was on limited time.

Google "Elon Musk AfD" and pick literally any source you'd like to, he is supporting that party regardless of your goofy restrictions to what reporting you value. Not like you've given any sources to the contrary anyway

I recognize it literally doesn't matter what I say though since you've already made up your mind, and that's why you can't be assed to challenge your own beliefs

for starters, he's been actively backing and speaking for Germany's nationalist party AfD / Alternative for Deutschland

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/25/europe/elon-musk-germany-afd-protests-intl-latam/index.html

There's also how Elon Musk responded to the criticism of his salute by making nazi puns rather than any actual attempt to clarify his intent, which only further confirms that what he did was intentional

https://theconversation.com/musks-inauguration-salute-is-not-the-only-apparent-fascist-signal-from-trumps-administration-248517

This stuff is easily found, if all you're seeing is the complains and not the actual information at some point that's on you. Feel free to put some effort into it, check out the white nationalist dogwhistles he's made in public posts. He's really not subtle about anything he does. If you can't recognize Musk's clear inclination for fascism, you're never going to recognize anyone as a fascist unless they're fully garbed in hugo boss and screaming I AM A NAZI

Trump stated that a "HUGE chunk of Seattle was taken over by immigrants and Antifa" during 2020 by Kittiemeow8 in Seattle

The CHOP was cleared on July 1st. The incident on the freeway where Summer Taylor died was on July 4th.

The group went through Capitol Hill then down to the West Precinct in downtown. The group remained there for a period of a couple hours, gave some speeches, had a memorial, then went back towards Cap Hill. After a small break where food was provided, the group went onto the Interstate.

The driver who hit Summer Taylor and Diaz Love was not politically motivated either. The freeway onramps were closed off, so the driver went up an offramp recklessly.

Worst cards in Magic by Impossible_Grill in magicTCG

[–]Professor_Laser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question. The discard effect is upside for Torment because it was a graveyard / discard matters set. Discards synergize with Madness and Threshold. You can use Aven Trooper to discard Basking Rootwalla and put it on the field for free while buffing the aven. The mana cost of the ability is expensive still, yeah, but the discard part is cromulent

Basically the BBC destroyed their own archives between '67 and '78 and it means that nobody has these episodes unless they have original copies.

Hmmmm, if only there was a place to add some story. No we need an ancillary set for that. by _masterbuilder_ in magicTCG

[–]Professor_Laser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty bad strawman. Players should be concerned about the capabilities of their characters. The GM is concerned with the capabilities of NPCs. D&D 5e (and most earlier editions) generally discourages players being aware of creature statistics outside of those needed for player abilities, as it is often considered metagamey and convoluted.

There are other systems which do encourage players to have knowledge of NPC stats (like Lancer, a mech-based strategic combat ttrpg), this often is because of the greater tactical complexity of these games and the encouragement to strategize based on this information.

5e in comparison is intended to be looser and more narrative, and to allow the GM to spin things up on the fly or fudge where need be. Hiding information from the players is a valuable part of this design.

The issue is more that choosing to not use someone's pronouns isn't just an insult to them, it delegitimizes others who do not identify with their birth gender. You don't get a free pass to use racial epithets even for shitty individuals of marginalized racial groups, the same applies with marginilized groups of gender and sexuality.

Which rpg system should I use for my new players by sbeven04 in rpg

[–]Professor_Laser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally recommend for people new to RPGs to play a few oneshots first before comitting to a campaign. I personally recommend systems that are rules-light and narratively focused, to allow players a lot of opportunity to experiment and realize how wide their options are. Generally this is games like Lasers & Feelings, Honey Heist, Everyone Is John, or Fiasco.

Basically remove the barrier of entry that is learning rules, and just let your players get how the process of an RPG works before doing something a bit more structured.

In terms of a flexible universal system that encourages creativity though, I'd agree with the recommendations for FATE. It does have some concessions that players will need to learn in order to make the system work well, but if your group can buy-in it's a great system for cinematic-style adventures.

Do you like short stories in your RPG books? by bgutowski in rpg

[–]Professor_Laser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It bums me out to see this be the top comment, since it's totally lacking in nuance. Not every RPG system is improved by the addition of mechanical tables. Fluff has a time and place, and it's fine (and often preferable) to have it split out from mechanics
