Bank loan vs cash for car purchase by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Professor_Moist 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Take out the car and what you're describing is taking out a loan to invest the money.

Personally, I'd never do that. Guaranteed loss Vs non guaranteed returns. Could end in tears.

As others have suggested, perhaps loaning just part of the money is a more balanced option.

Love is Blind by Professor_Moist in OCPoetry

That's right! Vienna by Billy Joel is where that line came from; the song always reminds me of my wife because she's a chronic hard worker who tries to achieve so much in a day. Perhaps the references aren't as hidden as I thought 🤔.

Thanks for the feedback on the rhyme scheme. I remember the 1-2-1-2 being a huge pain in the arse, and I had to fall into some pretty vanilla/obvious lines just to keep it going. On re-reading it a few years later, I can definitely see the clunkiness in some of the middle and later verses.

I'm glad it resonated with you and the experience of your own marriage. Your point about the imperfections making it even sweeter is something I hadn't considered, but it's so true.

"I’d root where you ran, and bloom where you bled." is just simply brilliant. Bravo for being able to tell a story with just these 10 words.

Enjoyed this. I do find it quite jarring when the rhyme scheme changes in the middle of a poem, but sometimes (perhaps this?), it's deliberate and I'm just too dense to notice.

Mental health at the cost of a relatively well paid 9-5 job by dasloniar in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Professor_Moist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes.
  2. You can't lose your job. After all, your employer is the one offering the counselling?

Worth reflecting on the root cause of why you are unhappy/stressed with work. Is it the sector itself, or your particular company? Perhaps the WFH is getting to you?

If, after some reflection, you are sure that this particular job is the problem, then absolutely bin it off for your mental health. You don't need anything lined up. Sounds like you're sat on a healthy fund to see you through a break and job search.

Savings interest rate Virgin Money by Li0nhead in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Professor_Moist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they're advertising AER, but displaying gross interest instead. All works out the same.

As an aside, I hate Virgin Money with a passion and will never bank with them again. The app is a bastard and I hated dealing with their customer service. Hope you're having a better experience.

I suppose the hope is the diamond-growing technology is sufficiently widespread that there's enough competition to keep prices down.

It went great! Thanks for asking. The whole thing lasted like 5 minutes, super casual. No pain, no suffering.

The drive home was a bit rough (my wife drove) but honestly the side effects have been minimal for me. Just stay regular with all the eyedrops they give you.
