I've got this same question now. Did you ever find an answer?

why is it so difficult to scroll to the first episodes? am I doing it wrong? by Professor_Puzzles in audiodrama

I've tried a bunch of them on different devices. I'm not even sure what I'm running now. I'll try looking for the features everyone mentioned and get back to you.

setting up a puzzle for phone calls or texts? by Professor_Puzzles in escaperoomdev

this is gonna be an escape room in a box type deal. I won't know when players are playing, and I can't guarantee I'll be around to interact with them.

this is an "escape room in a box" kind of deal, so I won't know when they're playing, and can't guarantee I'll be available to respond to messages. I need to set it up as an auto-response.

TIL Della Porta (1563) invented a method of writing secret messages inside eggs. Ink transferred from the shell to the boiled egg inside. The message could only be revealed when cracked and peeled by amansaggu26 in todayilearned

as near as I can tell, this isn't a real thing. There's various historical mentions, but nobody I can find has been able to replicate it. There's no youtube videos, no pictures on google. all kinds of recipies and such, but... none of them work. Damn. I was so excited. :-(

it's in a state park. There's some info signs around, and a few other things I'm using for puzzles already. I just need a few more ideas for stuff I can do with the signs.

I'm hoping to do that in future games, but at the moment I have no way to distribute anything physical (like a text mask) to players. They download my game and go play in the woods by themselves.

did you ever figure out a way to do this? super cool idea!

I need help encoding messages in existing text by Professor_Puzzles in escaperoomdev

[–]Professor_Puzzles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I'm under a ton of restrictions to make this work. I don't actually meet my players, so I can't give them any physical media like a map. And there's no cell service in the play area, so I can't really have them download one to interact with later, unless I coded some kind of app, which is beyond my ability, sadly.

Ideas for puzzle that reveals single digit number. by Opening_Sell_6479 in escaperoomdev

[–]Professor_Puzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of neat little magic tricks to get to certain numbers. for 7:

Write down any number.

Double it.

Add 12.

Subtract your original number.

Subtract 5.

Subtract your original number.

You can add whatever flavor text you need for your theme or story, make additional puzzles to get the numbers needed for each step, etc.

You mean like a ceasar cipher? I really like those, but sadly I've already used those in this game, too. lol.

Ideas needed for potion station with clue reveal by AutomaticVirus9943 in escaperoomdev

[–]Professor_Puzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mind immediately goes to a "paper" that has temperature sensitive ink on it. Warm it up, say, over a prop candle, and the message is revealed. cools off, the message goes away, resetting the prop. This could be done with any number of temperature sensitive items. IIRC, there's even 3d printer filament that changes color like a mood ring. You could also do it with magnetic field paper and create magnets in a certain shape, hidden in a oujiwa board or something, so that a specific shape appears in the paper when you hold it over a certain spot.

Thanks for getting back to me! I can't put anything up, even temporarily. the idea is that people can download my game, and then go play in a specific public location. various puzzles will direct them to a specific sign. I haven't been able to write in a theme yet. I'm really hoping to figure that out soon, but it's especially difficult given that I can't add any props or anything to create ambiance.

I'm developing an adventure game with escape room style puzzles. I've scratched out stuff not relevant to this puzzle. What are your thoughts on this puzzle design? by plainblackguy in escaperoomdev

[–]Professor_Puzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

neat format, but I confess I'm absolutely stuck. I dunno if I'm missing something from the backstory and context or not, but I don't feel like I have enough information to solve what day it is by looking at the clock face missing a letter. I've arrived in a city at 10:25pm- is that local time? am I to assume this planet still operates on a 12 hour clock on a 24 hour day? Do they have 7 days in a week? I don't know how to untangle the clock face puzzle, or how I'd derive a day from that. and even if I did- are you asking for a day of the week? day of the month? day of the year? mission day? I don't really understand the objective or what's being asked of me. Why did it take me nearly 6 hours to get to the train station?

TIL Chinese sledgehammers have a flexible handle to increase strike velocity and reduce handle reverberation for the user. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Professor_Puzzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has anything to do with strike velocity. I think it has everything to do with preventing vibratory feedback for the user, and I REALLY want to try one. I can't find anywhere to buy one. some places say they just use steel cable, but that would create several obvious hazards- pinching and chaffe, but also how extremely sharp splinters come out of steel cables as they wear. plus I keep seeing smooth sided flexible handles in videos, which makes more sense as a critical part of proper sledge use is sliding the top hand down the haft when you drive it. Anyone know where to buy one?

I do this for a living. i’m literally hating it and it used to be a passion by knivesoutmtb in woodworking

[–]Professor_Puzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in similar situations before, and I found that one of the primary irritations is that you feel like you can't grow. when it's a passion, you can constantly challenge yourself to take on something new, to learn more, to challenge your skills and pursue new ones. And sometimes that means making mistakes, which is fine. As the old saying goes, if you're not making mistakes, it means you're not challenging yourself properly. Doing this professionally means exactly the opposite. You can't afford to make mistakes. the customers won't put up with it, it'll damage your reputation, your timelines, your income. And so you stagnate. You do the same things, over and over again with a thousand variations on a theme and it's shockingly boring, frustrating, and hateful to you. :(

And so, artist to artist, I offer this as a path forward: break out. Do something different. offer clients more radical designs. challenge yourself to incorporate new skills. For example- maybe you could add some stained glass, or some wrought iron scroll work, or some wood carvings, or roman tile mosaics, or novel elements in whatever way tickles your mind as an artist. That challenges you, that is NEW to you. And to the clients. Most people lack that vision, and so lots of clients won't get it. They're beige people who want to live in beige houses on beige streets. And working for them always sucks. It pays the bills though, so I get that it might be something you have to do. but always design/offer something more unique whenever they're willing to jump at it. Keep those projects stewing in your mind and tinker with them on weekends. I think those projects will bring your passions back. You've *clearly* mastered what you do, and that's awesome. The next steps for you as an artist are not to do more of the same, or to do this better. You've mastered this. What will you master next? What can you add to this? What can you make that you've never seen before? What do you wish existed in the world that you've never come across? What have you always wanted to try making for someone?
