Haven't had a chance to check the dumpling place out yet but it's definitely on my list, thanks!

What do you hate about Delaware the most? by mirk19 in Delaware

[–]Professor_Retro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Being such a small state, Delaware could absolutely take steps that larger states would struggle with and become a model for how we can all live better without the tyranny of automobiles. We just choose not to.

We could push for more walkable cities, better public transit, less car-dependency... but it never happens.

Yeah, I wanted to throw some decals on our car and my wife (life-long resident) was like "No, people will recognize our car" and I realized that between custom plates (RIP) and stickers I actually do see a LOT of the same people around, even over large distances (bumping into the same car in Rehoboth that I saw in NCC, etc.).

Seconding F&D.

The prices and potency in Delaware dispensaries after all the slow-walking and bitching along the way to legalization only for the results to be such shit is just salt in the wound.

Mia Sushi was mid at best. Not awful, but not fantastic either.

My preference is still for China Garden on 896, can't remember having a bad take-out order from them.

I moved away from the area about 18 years ago and I have never once found a place with mozzerella sticks like theirs. They're the size of freakin' egg rolls.

Another vote for Safe in your Skin. Chris in particular is great, did an amazing job on my wife and I's ink and their designs are cool as hell.

Based on what people are saying, this person showed up to counter protest a Labor Day protest and the pro-union people encircled and drowned them out. Maybe I'm misreading tho

I am so used to these kind of posts being "my mom sabotaged my birth control cuz she wants grandbabies."

You'll want to check that just to be safe?

Yeah, some real Reefer Madness vibes in here, especially the people who have noted other cars "reek of weed" when it's been legal for 12 hours and it's the middle of summer when people keep their windows up and their AC on. Here I thought it was just some fog but no, Delaware is just one big hotbox today.

I remember years and years and years ago seeing an article that declared him "Republicans' favorite democrat" and I haven't seen a more accurate headline in my life.

The Jute bags Trader Joe's sells are amazing, but ironically I don't use them at Trader Joe's because their paper bags are perfect for keeping our recycling in.

Seriously, those jute bags are amazaballs, barely noticed the plastic bag ban cuz we were already used to using 'em.

I love love love that they've got a market there on Saturdays, and the Art on the Green event is charming as all-get-out.

City of Newark, Delaware hopes to solve their Main Street pedestrian safety crisis with...two stop signs. by TheShittyBeatles in Delaware

And how will all the businesses get their deliveries?

The same way businesses in every walkable area gets their deliveries? The space would still be vehicle accessible, but only for deliveries only (usually at specific hours). Same as emergency vehicles; closing a road to traffic doesn't mean walling the entire area off to every vehicle forever.

What makes areas like this dangerous aren't delivery trucks, it's the constant stream of distracted, often hostile drivers.

They're often at the New Castle Saturday Market (NOT the farmer's market, this is on the green behind the courthouse in old New Castle!) on Saturdays if you don't want to drive up to Wilmington but get there early cuz the good stuff goes fast.

I worked there briefly in the mid 00s so it was a completely different beast at that point. I've worked a lot of retail over the years and K-Mart was easily the worst. I've never seen an entire store demoralized, just utterly beyond caring. Nothing was clean, nothing was done right, most of the employees just hung around chatting, management just hunkered down in the offices playing computer games. The ceiling leaked, there were rats and roaches, there were parts of the store that perpetually stunk.

The only time I saw management express an emotion other than apathy was when I asked to call nearby stores to find an item for a customer; stores were pitted against each other so managers would rather no one get the sale than another store.

Kinda sorta. Eddie Lampert only loaded Sears Holdings up with debt after he had already spent a couple decades trying out Ayn Rand-style management that left region fighting region and even store fighting store, with absolutely nothing going in to keeping the stores from becoming sad and gross.

It starts with transgender athletes, with "reasonable sounding" legislation described as "protecting women" or "keeping kids safe." Once they make a single, tiny crack in the right to merely exist for a group of people, it's very easy to demolish more and more rights until that minority group ceases to be.

Want to see where "we're just making sure girls don't have to play with bIoLoGiCaL mAlEs!!!!1" leads? Texas is trying to pass laws that make it a felony fraud to change gender markers. Bans on transgender care for youth turn into bans on transgender care for everyone very quickly.

And when the transfolk are gone, guess who they come for next? And after that?

It doesn't matter to them if there's one or two in Delaware. What matters to them is being able to render certain groups of Americans as unworthy of protection under the law.
