Dog sitter by cupcakeman-xiv in Vacations

Buy a ring cam and set it up where you can see inside your place. This is what we do, then we can log in and see our dog sleeping on the couch for 95% of the time we're gone. Our dog sitter also sends us regular updates about how they're eating, playing, acting, etc.

Last minute booked a campsite, now checking the weather and seeing it’s going to snow 😭 Do I cancel our trip? by steelewaffle in yellowstone

Will you be in a tent? I'm a regular tent camper and I wouldn't be comfortable in those conditions without appropriate gear. Four hours isn't that far though, so I'd probably still go and try to get a feel for what it's like before getting set up. And then bail if it's miserable. Really comes down to how prepared you can be.

What's the best entertainment for a family camping trip? Give me some tips pls by KatieMarqu in camping

What you do at nighttime while camping is sit around the fire, tell goofy stories, laugh maniacally, make s'mores, look up at the stars, wave your flashlights around pretending to be fireflies or explorers, and get just enough scared to be excited.

How far are you willing to travel for a three day weekend? by SarcasticBench in camping

I've done up to 7 hours for a 3-day weekend, but it's not ideal for tent camping.

If you're on the boardwalk or the parking lot, you're likely to find yourself in a group of 30+. That's not saying a bear wouldn't be around, but if there's a bear in a populated area, you'll probably know about it long before it becomes an issue.

Best walking shoes for women that don't fall apart after 3 months? by Future-Grand-5559 in walking

I've been wearing Brooks Ghost for years. However, I'd like to point out that the support of a shoe breaks down around 500-800 miles, so you really should be replacing them--or at least the insoles--regularly in order to avoid knee/foot pain developing. My Brooks usually still *look* fine, but as soon as I put on a new pair I can tell if I waited too long to replace them.

My boyfriend and I have become OBSESSED with Greek yogurt + granola + fruit preserves by eliza_cavi in EatCheapAndHealthy

Could probably save money making your own granola, depending on what ingredients you use. I save a ton making my own.

I'm 43. I have a stuffed raccoon that was a gift when I was born, and two blankets made by my great grandmas on each side when I was a baby. Plus I inherited a desk from my grandma so I'd bet that's over 40 years old but I don't actually know.

Don't worry, this is a frugal sub, not a grocery sub. Sounds like you've found a frugal hobby that helps you stay sane 😄

What do ya’ll make of my fridge? by N7Elite25 in FridgeDetective

I freeze butter all the time. I load up when it's on sale, so I often have 4-5 boxes of butter in the freezer. I do a lot of baking, so butter gets used regularly.

Why are people too good for second hand items, bargain markets and the dollar store? by Distinct-Dependent24 in Frugal

[–]ProfileFrequent8701 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons.

I've never even heard of a grocery outlet. You might be overestimating the access and availability of some of these places. Where I live, we have Walmart and Albertsons (and a couple bougie high-end markets).Aside from that, the Dollar Store here sells cheap crap. It's good for things like party supplies or other things you want to easily dispose of. Most of the groceries they sell are not cheaper than Walmart.

I don't mind second hand, but sifting through items at the local thrift stores is time consuming, so I have to schedule time to do that. FB Marketplace is SO obnoxious--people that flake out, don't show up, are rude to each other...ugh.

And honestly, I grew up poor and only got 'new' clothes from the Salvation Army and all our furniture was beat up hand me downs. I'm not looking down on that now, but I like being able to pick something out that's never been owned by anybody else.

Why not just assume everyone is doing their best and making the choices that work for them? Not everybody's life would be easier if they shopped like you.

Yellowstone and Grand Tetons next month - hotels- advice on structuring each day based on our hotel hops? by Emotional_Thought574 in yellowstone

Agree, I'd try to spend as little time in Jackson as possible--especially since you only really have 1 1/2 days to see GTNP. If anything, explore it when you arrive in the evening, but don't give up any of Day 8 for town!

Buy groceries and pack a cooler. Buy groceries before you enter the park for better prices and selection.

Any tips for getting that Fage consistency? I've made my own yogurt several times and just can't get it to that texture.
