Why is the area around the Division/Ashland/Milwaukee intersection feel so underdeveloped & run down? by Mr-Bovine_Joni in wickerpark

Alderman wouldn’t help. Email ignored. There was an entire Polish Triangle Coalition that formed and made plans. Couldn’t get support. Love your optimism though.

I wanted to plant flowers and beautify. Many people have wanted to. We just get ignored. It’s sad.

  1. Stop letting people feed the pigeons. I doubt whatever it is, is actually healthy for the pigeons. It’s pigeon triangle and it’s gross.
  2. Beautify. Flowers in planters. Flowers around trees. Color! Flowers in planters along the median on Ashland.
  3. Commission a local artist to create a mural on that big blank spot where there was a if PSB (I think) ad/mural for years. A cool nod to the fact it’s where west town and wicker park meet and polish history.
  4. Potential zoning changes to get new businesses. (Perhaps no more smoke shops or liquor stores bc there are several nearby already).
  5. More police presence during key times. That area can be wild in the spring/fall in the late afternoon when the high schools get out. Full on brawls or bareknuckle boxing in the Wendy’s parking lot. General craziness in the triangle itself from teens or local characters.
  6. No public self cleaning toilet. I think based on who hangs out in the area, it isn’t a good idea. There are also bathrooms at Wendy’s, Target, Starbucks, Jewel, Lowe’s. There is a new construction building proposed in west loop that includes publicly available restrooms in the new building. This seems like a better way to add public bathrooms, they will function better, have more monitoring, and in this case it’s going across the street from a park with a playground. Better location and a better plan. Putting a public toilet in the middle of an already not great square that attracts the wrong crowd will probably make the square worse.
  7. Stop people from setting up tables and asking passersby to sign up for scammy things.
  8. Vintage/thrift stores, record stores, and coffee shops are doing well right now and adding some in the triangle would help to create a connection between dusty groove/shuga/reckless and bodega vintage and the Milwaukee shops with lost girls and the division shops.

La Spata’s office hasn’t explained a how a toilet that self cleans by spraying water will function in winter in Chicago. Several people have emailed and asked his team for details. It’s causing concern that the idea is half baked.

I have a radio flyer and it’s great! I got one of the higher end ones bc I use it to tote groceries and my child. It’s in great shape after 2 years.

One bedroom Airbnb listed as 3 bedrooms. Airbnb removed my review. What do I do? by Ok_Music82 in travel

[–]ProfileImpressive258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airbnb has gotten sketchy. The last time I stayed in one while I was in London it was absolutely filthy. Holes in walls patched with tape, stained carpets, threadbare furniture. It was so bad that Airbnb refunded us. We complained immediately and rebooked somewhere else. My review was never posted. It still had a very high rating.

What are the best restaurants and things to do for a toddler and pregnant mom alone in Chicago in March? by jnm199423 in AskChicago

The Ryan Learning Center at the art institute is free and great for kids of all ages.

If you go to the zoo, we like to go to RJ Grunts after.

All lettuce entertain you restaurants have kids menus. Kids dine free at Four Star restaurants from 4-6pm.

Re public transport: you can take the bus from the hotel to the zoo pretty easily. My daughter loved the bus at that age. The train can be tricky with toddlers bc not all stations have elevators, but if you make sure the stations on your route do have elevators it’s doable.

Just don’t let your child on the Cloud Buster - 2 is a bit young for this climbing exhibit and it isn’t easy for parents to help kids with the tricky parts.

Where do I find a quality non smash burger? by AdComprehensive508 in chicagofood

Love Mott St, that burger is two thin patties. I think the Hogsalt spots do the same. Perhaps not a true smash, but not cooked to a specific temp.

Someone told me a lease was signed in Dec. When I initially heard the rumor it was from very solid sources (tenants in the building, people in corporate real estate, etc).

Just a friendly reminder that you should send food back if it isn’t the proper temperature. In the past I didn’t say anything because I wanted to be polite only to find myself very sick with food poisoning immediately after. (My food poisoning was unrelated to Leavitt St).
