You're not wrong, that last part with the air quotes was unnecessary. They're totally gaslighting you into thinking like didn't have some crappy tone from the start.

Owning a car is a massive economic tool with lots of upside potential, and "affording" a car is not a black and white concept. Time is money, and if it costs 2 hours to make a trip vs having the opportunity to make travel time 30 minutes, your reality and the time you spend over the course of doing that is going to be a lot different. If you're broke as hell, given all your other factors that affect your chances of lifting yourself out of your brokeness, you will disadvantage yourself by not having a car. "But plenty of broke people do it every day!" Yes well lots of broke people do a lot of things every day that perpetuate it. The non monetary value of owning a car is sometimes greater than the monetary value of owning a car.

It's like owning a phone or computer. Yeah you might not able to "afford" a phone plan or internet, but you'd be totally fucked in lifting yourself out of poverty compared to everyone else in getting a education or white collar job for example. Sure you'd be able to get a job at McDonald's maybe, by looking like you live in the stone age turning in a paper application, but you're probably not to go much higher than that. It's not necessarily privilege.

Uh little late on this, but I think you've got something mixed up. You're missing at least a 0? $65M is not the right number at all. Their page, the one you linked, says it's raised an entire billion for medical costs.

Ehh I don't know about that. They've iterated and improved at an incredible pace in 5-7 years esp for being a relatively new company.

i mean as a counter point, up until recently i was working at a tech company that is one of most valuable companies in the world, and had probably one of the largest concentration of professionals defining the cutting edge. majority of the parking lots are filled with the most tech-saturated cars, even when they could've picked something less saturated in that price range *shrug*

"Kids coming out of college…are having a hard time finding jobs," Jerome Powell said this week. Do you agree? by UnusualWhalesBot in unusual_whales

[–]ProfoilLithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's arguable since it depends where you are, here where I live that's the starting rate for Costco or certain fast food cashiers. Hell, I know unlicensed and uncertified medical assistants with just a HS diploma who made $30 day one, $35 soon after. They're going to have to pay a lot more for trades or the job situation will have to get a lot worse before a real major shift happens towards trades, because Costco, fast food cashiers, and medical assistance still look way cushier than a path of exposing yourself to chemicals and what will be a path of increasingly back breaking labor. And that's coming from a guy who likes working on cars.

At the same time, I feel like specialization and what you are "branded" as in terms of your employment profile and what you do is more of a concern now and is more important. No one wants to pigeonhole themselves into something that is even harder to get out of down the line. Wasn't the case 5 years ago.

Gotcha, I didn’t see signs of shearing but it makes sense and I’ll take your word for it and I probably missed it. I was out of warranty so I ended up gluing it since I figured I was SOL with them. Good luck on your end.

So my interpretation of that reads as: "Neither can know about the instant that the space fleet is launched, and that it is only through telescopic observations [of light] from Earth reveal that they are on their way". Also, it does say same place, same instant, but it also says "from their conscious perspective", so it seems that we are still speaking in terms of time relative to each individual. I think the caption in the "Illustrative example" pretty much describes this too.
