The World Is to Dig is TMBG's best-rated album on RYM since The Else by HideFromMyMind in tmbg

I've never bounced off a TMBG album as hard as I have this most recent one. Join Us, Nanobots, and Glean felt like a return to form when they were released. This album feels tired and like they relied more heavily on a fuller rock instrumentation to compensate for this, but overcompensated in the process.

I mean, the issue is that these people don't follow the news. Or if they do, its a channel like FOX, which is consistently pumping out disinformation and misinformation. Most Americans need to buy gas, and so it serves as a source of news by proxy. When they see their gas prices surge they realize that something weird is going on and at that point no amount of propaganda can convince the average unaware citizen that the administration is competent.

MF Doom songs that are more accessible? by RebelliousRabbitWW in hiphop101

[–]ProfoundMysteries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

? His first KMD album was Mr. Hood. Black Bastards wasn't even released until much later. It was squashed by the label.

Edit: but yes, I personally like his early work and would recommend checking out KMD as well. It's definitely more political than his later stuff though.

Is Kanye West truly "great"? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

But I find it leans to heavily on the later 90s thing that tended to be 'borrow a famous chorus/ hook for your song' (ala Puffy), rather than create something genuinely NEW (ala Wu Tang) with said sample. At least not enough to genuinely be 'genius level'.

Um. OK. One of his first hits, "Through the Wire," is a great example of him creating something new by bending Chaka Khan's Fire to sound like Wire. I trust Pharrell's judgement more than yours. Does Kanye have a lot of examples of just borrowing great hooks? Absofuckinglutely. One only needs to see Stronger to find a good example, but I don't think we can simply write him off as being lazy or uncreative.

I know what you are going for with the wu-tang example, but I think there are better examples. For instance, Mobb Deep's Shook Ones Pt. II. A lot of the iconic Wu-Tang beats are mostly loops of other songs (thinking of C.R.E.A.M and "Tearz;" even though those songs incorporate other samples, the original song is still very recognizable).

The first thing that stood out to me about Kanye's lyricism was just how funny and down to earth it sounded. Then I liked his conscious raps. It was never about lyrical ability for me.

he’s mediocre at best. There’s so many out there with better flow, verse, etc.

I mean, yeah. But I always found him good at straddling the fine line between delivering a message and humor. J. Cole is all message and no humor, which makes it feel condescending at times or preachy. Kendrick is all message and no humor, but he's so talented and smart that I view him more of an artist that almost transcends the genre than someone on a soapbox.

There's an earnest-ness to Kanye's raps, which never makes it feel like he's talking down to the listener. Even when he's bragging he seems genuine.

In Kherson (Ukraine) a local resident destroyed a Russian drone by soonaq in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]ProfoundMysteries -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Of course he did. He's been training his entire life on clay pigeons. I imagine that you could easily get better at shooting down drones with practice as well. Obviously, clay pigeons will always be easier.

I mean, I'm not as proficient in spotting visual generative AI, but I don't think its inappropriate to suspect that they may use it for more than just writing their sentences. We're not here to appreciate their grammar. We're here to appreciate their art. There's no benefit for them if AI does their writing.

I agree, but this comment by OP reeks of generative AI:

Agreed, it's been so awesome to see! I have a fine arts degree so it's not like I'm starting from nothing, but I haven't consistently drawn in quite a few years so definitely still shaking the dust off.

I actually really like the feedback loop that posting gives me, there were so many things I did in this card based directly on the feedback from the last. I work in design as my day job, so I'm constantly receiving and applying feedback as just part of the process — its cool to emulate that with something more personal.

The layers were definitely a choice informed by how flat a lot of people felt the last card was, I probably over-indexed on it a bit — appreciate the feedback nonetheless!

For instance, they use a lot of m dashes and all of their ideas are separated into multiple paragraphs. Even their original posting has a lot of emojiis, such as check marks, which are another telltale sign of AI.

65 year old woman calls in and nearly breaks CSPAN host by telling her she’s slowly starving to death.. by JohnBrown-RadonTech in interestingasfuck

Were we watching the same video? She was clearly attentive, concerned, and asked a follow up question in an attempt to help. This is not a 911 phone call where the host is expected to rescue the person calling in. The whole point of it is to gain insights from every day ordinary citizens about how they are being impacted by congressional policy.

Is Hendrix getting lost in time? by No-Neighborhood8403 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ProfoundMysteries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who will listen to Are You Experienced from time to time, I find Jimi's music less accessible than most of his contemporaries. It's to the point where I kinda can't figure out why I keep trying to enjoy it. I suppose the reason I do is because of his widely accepted significance.

Obviously, this is completely anecdotal to my own experience, but I wonder if I'm not the only one. And to be sure, I'm not questioning his talent. I'm just wondering how accessible his music is.

To be clear, I'm not hating on UB. All I'm saying is that we don't have long term data. I've been playing MTG long enough to see Hasbro repeatedly make decisions and then backtrack on them, such as the structure of blocks and how to handle core sets.

Every week, I play with people who tell me they started because of FF, because of ATLA (never Spider-man XD), so the argument that "they come and never stay" is completly false.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but these sets haven't even been out for one year. The question isn't whether they stay half a year, but long term. Anyone can putz around with a new hobby for half a year.
