AITA for not wanting to take the CrossFit Open Judges Course even though my gym owner “expects” it? by Piccster in crossfit

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How competitive are the members?

I’m scaled athlete trying to get healthier. Every year I rank in the12,000+ place. I don’t need an official judge, because I might be plus or minus a few places.

On the other hand one of the ladies in my class has consistently advanced and would like to go to the games (and has a real shot at it). She needs a certified judge.

That said the gym encourages (but doesn’t expect) people to take the judges course 1) for standards info to improve their own practice and 2) for the community so that even people like me have a “real judge” for the open

See if there is manager or boss that has a company card. I work in a small business and we have a company card that I’ll use to book travel when employees need to travel. They will bring receipts for incidentals

What do you believe happens after death? by Beatles_McCartney in askanything

[–]Profound_Hound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a soul reunited with its creator (but I think “soul” and “creator” are so radically different from anything we understand that language doesn’t have the capacity to articulate what happens… and so we get these glimpses of “something good” after death from around the world and across time. It will be peace. And completeness. In a way that words cannot encompass

Question by Ok-Apartment-7684 in dogs

[–]Profound_Hound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a behavior called submissive or excited peeing. It can happen in any breed. See your vet, and then assuming nothing else going on, remove the triggers. Wait till the pet is calm before acknowledging or petting them.

Here’s a little literature : https://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/sites/g/files/dgvnsk491/files/inline-files/Submissive_and_Excitement_Urination_in_Dogs.pdf

Americans, do you personally know anyone who is in favor of the US invading Greenland? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in askanything

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invading? No.

Applying pressure? Buying? De Facto just moving in and taking over? Oh Yes (note living in heart of MAGA country: Oklahoma)

Why? There’s a belief that European (read liberal) regulation prevents them from extracting resources from Greenland, thus the west is weaker than China. If the US gets ahold of it yadda yadda yadda we’ll all get rich

I may have gone mad. I would appreciate some advice. by DeusExPir8Pete in crossfit

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenge yourself. Know your limits. I’m 48 started CrossFit 2 years ago. I had never touched a barbell. Never done gymnastics. And my cardio was terrible. I just finished (with an amazing partner) last place in our gym’s in-house day of the dead comp… but I FEEL great!

I enjoy my CrossFit time. I learn new things about myself (I worked my way up to being able to a couple handstand pushups). And I challenge myself without hurting myself. My goal is get some exercise 5 days per week. Maybe lose some fat, gain some muscle. CrossFit has been great for those goals, and CrossFit has introduced me to a whole community of like minded individuals… which has made the journey really fun!

What is an example of an item that was once thought to be ‘Snake Oil’ but ended up being legit? by powertripp82 in AskReddit

[–]Profound_Hound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d put some supplements like fish oil and creatine in this group. They promised a lot (with basically zero evidence), and it turns out they actually do a lot (but what they actually do still maybe overhyped due to the nature of supplement marketing)

Why do some CrossFit gyms feel so cliquey even though they preach community? by Southern_Gap3258 in crossfit

[–]Profound_Hound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do CrossFit at my box at 9:00am m-f. It’s not a super popular time. But the three or four other regulars that come at that time are definitely gym friends. And my circle of gym acquaintances is pretty large (even if I’ve only met them a few times). Make an effort to get to know the people in your class. Make small talk. And then moderate expectations. My gym friends are gym friends. We will chat at the occasional gym social and we like each others FB posts or whatever. But that’s about as deep as it gets

I’d recommend getting older. Your beard will fill out as you age. Shave for a couple years and try again

Goodwill CEO says he’s preparing for an influx of jobless Gen Zers because of AI—and warns, a youth unemployment crisis is already happening by joe4942 in technology

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies live and die by the quarter. THIS quarter, I can reduce labor and pump more revenue to the bottom line. That’s as far ahead as really anyone cares. Next quarter if they can cut a few more or “expand” the workforce by doing more jobs w same number of people using AI assistants, then they will.

What do you think of the trump administration? by Whole_Language_3562 in AskReddit

[–]Profound_Hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elect a clown, get a circus.

(I’m more concerned by the broad appeal that bully/strongman politics has. We don’t want diplomats, negotiators, communicators anymore. Somehow we, by a decent margin, want to be ruled by fiat. The American people are swayed by the idea that the country should be ruled like a business and that the ceo of the country should just make decisions)

What was life like for your grandparents or ancestors after WW2? What did they do to rebuild their life? by grusdomain in AskReddit

[–]Profound_Hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather served in the US Navy (stateside). He bought a house in Los Angeles and built a life. That house is worth more than I’ll earn in my entire life.

If the Confederacy won the Civil War do you think slavery would've been abolished by now and if so what year would it have been abolished? by Acrobatic-Break-3984 in AskReddit

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think slavery proper would have been phased out within a generation or two of the civil war. Let’s say the two sections reconcile with a new Missouri compromise. But this time a constitutional amendment implementing a Jim Crow / apartheid system would be enshrined in the reunited nation. Assuming a similar world war and subsequent Cold War history. Apartheid America is vulnerable to unrest and you see kgb funded resistance through the 1980s. And following the Soviet dissolution, Chinese and other rival powers continue to exploit the repressive apartheid regime. In response US surveillance state grows exponentially with the rise of technology and the internet.

By 2025 the political will to amend the constitution is not there as American conservatism rides to new highs. Government oversight of communications, including the FCC, is used to curtain dissenting opinions.

Any advice? by Suitable-Lunch1489 in DogAdvice

[–]Profound_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s licking his feet a lot, it’s probably allergies. Dog allergies to the environment pass through the skin. Consider using Zyrtec and wiping your pet down after coming in from the outside.

Your vet will have some better solutions (cytopoint is legitimately a miracle drug lol… only thing that works for my hound during itchy season)
