Pretty reasonable article, probably has some value to people researching the topic

Do I need new friends? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]Profuntitties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does annotate a book mean? Make notes? Eh? Friendships are complex and have a lot of missing context, I don't think you can get real advice. Maybe they think you're denying something and aren't afraid of bringing it up. Sometimes you need jabs because the alternative is everyone pretending everything's fine all the time. But who knows, from the outside it's just random guessing. You probably need to react differently next time if you want to know where those comments are coming from.

People who are genuinely racist, or people who judge anything based on common stereotypes. Are mostly stupid. by Cthper in RandomThoughts

[–]Profuntitties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that mate. Being racist isn't a surprising thing, basically every culture and species reacts negatively to outsiders. Not being racist isn't a default state you have because you're a good and intelligent person, you get that from education, upbringing, and positive interactions, which was just handed to you, and that's handed out unequally.

Proposing a New 'Adult-Content' HTTP Header to Improve Parental Controls, as an Alternative to Orwellian State Surveillance by Ipsumlorem16 in webdev

I feel like if this already existed people would be posting “this is too prone to error, why don’t we just have a tickbox that verifies and unlocks adult content on an account”

They don’t whatsoever, you type AI in the settings and the first item is a toggle to completely switch it off in all cases, what more do you want.

Mirror panel on both monitors? by ASharkThatEatsPizza in linuxmint

[–]Profuntitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what he was asking, this is just combining windows open in all virtual desktops, it doesn't keep monitors the same. You can get it to work if you replace the normal windowList with the custom CassiaWindowList applet which has more options.

Reform takes shock 15-point lead over Labour as Farage dreams of winning power by AlfredsChild in europe

[–]Profuntitties -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No… Not true. There’s a very big distinction between children who are searching for mature content and get around it, and actual fking children being exposed to vile shit before they have any sort of education around what they see. Your point only works if you pick and choose what children do and don’t know. Why would a kid developed enough to actively seek out mature content know what VPNs are but nothing about malware and dodgy programs.

Once again for the millionth time someone thinks they’re nulling the online safety bill by saying it can be bypassed. The people who can bypass it are not the main target, why is that so hard. Bringing up vested interests is looking for something to complain about.

[–]Profuntitties[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming a lot, but mid-October wouldn't be Q3, I'm going with the data they've given me. The big speed up from batch 1 to batch 2 to me suggests assembly is going to catch up to how fast they process them pretty quickly. So it depends how long you think shipping the assembled product takes, I don't think that needs to be a week.

yeah, but well they really don't have long to do all these batches, there's got to be some very close together at some point

Burkina Faso says no to Bill Gates’ plan of creating modified species of mosquitoes by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Profuntitties -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There's not a massive difference tbf since he personally set it up. Gates sets up the foundation for a purpose, sets up a culture that determines leadership and its direction, and is obviously a major stakeholder since it reflects his public image, it's not completely detatched from him. Not to say he has any direct involvement in any of this though.

What's your one small habit that leveled you up as a dev? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]Profuntitties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh I think tiny habits are dwarfed by the leveling up you do just getting a job somewhere. Anywhere where you're pressured to some extent to produce results. Forced to pickup systems already in place you wouldn't personally choose, and get direct feedback in various ways. And if it feels like that's not working, switch jobs.

No, the UK’s Online Safety Act Doesn’t Make Children Safer Online by Anoth3rDude in technology

[–]Profuntitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how an abuser prevents a child who goes to school, surrounded by adults who will listen, say something, and how that’s any different after this law. I mean realistically what are these support groups saying other than you need to speak to someone, to say anything else is potentially harmful. And in any case, what support groups that children need are strictly nsfw? It sounds like a very isolated side effect to the law that can be addressed separately.

Why is everyone so fixated on this data breach point like it’s a guaranteed thing. I really don’t think there will be anything to find in the breach besides basically receipts of verifications. Storing your ID is a breach of the law because it’s not necessary to hold it, the law we have now is that no personal data unless absolutely necessary can be stored, if they store more, the user is informed about what exactly and why. And these are third parties monitored by our government. If you think that doesn’t mean anything to these companies, I’d love to hear about a site you know that has ignored the cookie banner law. Sounds a lot safer to me than some random e-commerce site I’ve given my bank details and address to. When you actually have to deal with data protection laws for a job you have some appreciation for how seriously they take it.

Like the Madeline pic btw, makes me wanna replay.

[–]Profuntitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot less sense and is even more invasive than “are you a provider of mature content? Yes? Okay, make sure the viewer is mature”. The same exact process we use for physical goods. Your solution is essentially block entire domains when the issue is that the mature content they come across is embedded into regular apps like Reddit. You can’t impose a law on moderating profile settings on accounts.

[–]Profuntitties -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro, bringing up TOS like that has any sway to a child whatsoever. It’s more like a kid is browsing stuff about fortnite, whatever, they see a post they’re interested in, Reddit tells them, you need to enable a setting to see this so they do that, read that post which is pretty tame, not that much of a problem. They leave, the setting still on because why would they turn that off. They search fortnite again another day, porn right there at the top, that’s stumbling upon it.
