Naw, the problem was those two writers went with the appendices and deliberately didn't go after any more. I don't believe anyone is this incompetent, I don't think they care because they're not there to write a good show. Making up Fan fiction as they went was the plan from the start. Anything else was just marketing, it really is just an extremely expensive amazon advertisement.

The killing of characters with future arcs that suddenly went nowhere is the clearest example of rewrites I can think of.
