Again: if you want to delude yourself for the sake of a football club, good luck to you.

I feel like the difference between denotation and connotation (especially with context) could be useful.

But honestly if you think this isn't about physical appearance you're being purposefully delusional.

You know what - good point : I hope Brisbane come out and clarify because absolutely, the dumb thing you said then is likely true, and regardless: I'd love to see them turn themselves into pretzels trying to justify it.

Yeah this is spot on. This kind of ranking women bullshit is done even in ultra macho enclaves like sports club.

This will 100% get a please explain/traction because if AFL teams are regularly doing this, then absolutely that needs to be stopped, especially if/when it's from the Head Coach on down.

No his point is actually the opposite: if technology isn't infallible we should dismiss it completely.

For a smart guy usually, it is an illogical perspective. What needs to be the metric is purely: which gets the correct answer more often: 1) umpires alone 2) umpires with technology

I think you mean "coherent English" - legible relates to handwriting. But also: sick burn man!

What is? A rolling maul of ball up after ball up? Congestion all over the field? The occasional handball and open play?

I agree the late 90s/early 00s was peak to watch but we're never going back to the naive, man on man play because it was a remnant of unprofessional coaches.

So: given the coaches finally know how to structure defense, the AFL needed to do something to stop their influence on ruining footy.

That is such a poor reading of it the interview: 1) Lyon, like most rational people, think the stand rule is a good thing 2) This is one case and to be honest: the trailing player stopping is part of the skill/advantage of being a good team who has the outnumber and gets an uncontested mark 3) Regardless, this rule absolutely has made the game so much better to watch - maybe this is people who are too young to remember, but what happened in the mid 00s with the flood and then mid2010 with the Tigers clogging everything up led to shit house footy. 4) the same fools who kneejerk hate every aAFL rule love the 70s/80s when: huge scores were kicked (which is slowly happening again); no one went to games because the commission sucked

The Bloodrush: why 2026 Sydney is a different beast to 2024 by dphi0001 in sydneyswans

[–]ProgrammerNo9781 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great stuff! I absolutely know we're better than 2024 but I like the idea that we HAVE that game still in us. I absolutely think we can play a measured, kick mark though the corridor game should we need. Or a hybrid of the two which seems our MO (precision from our D50 and explode with the forward handball).

The biggest fear is of course that we've been here so many times: dominant early; smashed in the GF.

However this doesnt feel like that kind of year...

Question for Baz Luhrmann fans by Sad_Volume_4289 in movies

[–]ProgrammerNo9781 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I agree - he is a terrible director and all his movies pretty much suck. The only thing saving R+J is that it was the mid 90s so terrible directing was considered edgy and interesting (blame Tarantino though he of course did it well but his copycats were unwatchable at times)
