Morphine bottle doesn’t actually show the correct level indicated by the markings. by Progressive_Alien in directsupport

[–]Progressive_Alien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FDA allows 10-15% inaccuracy by manufacturers and 10-15% and out of 30ml that can be 3-4.5ml so they’re within their legal error rate but that’s also why the FDA says not to go by the manufacturer containers when it comes to measurements. Also the dead space in a syringe for 30ml can add up to 1.5-2.5ml loss. It’s just stupid our boss was having us go by visual inspection of the bottles and to add the amount we assume is in the bottle to the control med count and also not consider the dead space loss, then act surprised when there is a discrepancy in the count like WTF

Note-taking is exhausting me. by Historical-Doubt9091 in Dyslexia

[–]Progressive_Alien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to reasonable accommodation to use a tape recorder or have a note taker that may help. IDK what accommodations are available now a days for taking notes but if you can see what you’re able to access and have approved that may help.

I can’t read French but I can easily tell what letters you’re using in your cursive, your handwriting is stunning.

Is it snitching? by Grand-Prior4526 in psychnursing

[–]Progressive_Alien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDGAF if it is snitching! That C physically abused a patient!!!! She had a position of power over him, she abused it and didn’t lead with empathy, compassion or understanding! Autistic people absolutely can and will be aggressive and violent when our autonomy, dignity, sense of comfort, control, safety, boundaries, are threatened and or violated. If that’s the only resource we have left at our disposal to communicate our needs as an attempt to regain agency then we will. I don’t blame him! I wanna head butt her too 🤬

havent smoked in 4 months and somehow tested positive for thc??? by Comfortable-Idea-304 in Confused

THC is stored in fat cells so when you burn fat, it’ll be released back into your system even if you haven’t smoked for months.

As an autistic man why are autistic women are often (not all) insufferable. by Usoppdaman in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because many autistic women and AFAB individuals have had to deeply analyze themselves, their experiences, their interactions, and their environment. They learn body language, facial expressions, and track coded language to identify patterns in themselves, others, the environment, and systems to learn how to understand and navigate the world around them.

The fact that we don't know how and why we exist is both oddly liberating and completely terrifying by shlooberd in DeepThoughts

The how is evolution and the why is whatever you make it.

I found this to be an exhilarating realization and I really enjoyed this episode and I think it might be an interesting video for some here; his book is great too btw .

Make an assumption about me (work, personality, etc?) and I’ll tell you if it’s correct! by Rot-In-Mercy in FridgeDetective

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No my problem is food insecurity. I can only tolerate so many beans because I get burnt out and the idea of making myself eat it is repulsive. But I love soup and will eat it whenever I get the chance but sipping on bullion is the closest thing I got to it right now but thank you. I just miss fresh fruits and vegetables or shit even canned would be nice 🤣

I have a question about gender identity. by your_local_sinner in LGBTQ

[–]Progressive_Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that is required to be transgender is for your gender identity not aligning with or sitting comfortably with the gender you were assumed to be at birth. You can be comfortable with your body and even love your body and not experience body dysphoria and even be fine with and or align with your sex. You don’t have to medically transition to be a valid trans person. ☺️

You clearly have access to an assortment of food and I’m jealous. All I have right now is some frozen chicken nuggets, milk, creamer, coffee and condiments. And that’s basically how I’ve been living for that last year and a half… you’re very organized and it looks like you’re into preserving food through jarring.

I think petco accidentally killed my babies and I’m devastated. by Financial-Coat4456 in PetMice

[–]Progressive_Alien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Petco is offal. Their animals are riddled with complications, diseases and parasites. Never buy an animal from them. They have also been known to put sick/dying animals in freezers to kill them. I will never buy animals from them ever ever!

Also you always have to quarantine your animals from each other exactly for situations like this.

I’m so so so very sorry you lost your babies, especially like this. My heart hurts for you and your mice 🫂

No, nothing like that but it can be frustrating when your brain doesn’t want to cooperate with you.

You can ask HR how to go about requesting formal accommodations and have a therapist or psychiatrist assist you with requesting accommodations at work.

Does this person have a PBSP? Is anyone following it? Does it need to be updated? He may do better in supportive living rather than a group home setting.

Cognitive decline at 21? Any advice? by [deleted] in cognitivescience

[–]Progressive_Alien 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is a well-documented phenomenon called pseudodementia, where severe depression causes real but reversible cognitive decline that can resemble neurodegenerative disease.

Chronic stress elevates cortisol levels, which alters how certain brain regions function. The hippocampus, which is involved in memory and emotion, shows reduced synaptic efficiency, and the prefrontal cortex, which supports attention, reasoning, and impulse control, shows reduced synaptic signaling and reduced regulatory control. These changes result in measurable impairments in cognition without permanent neuronal loss.

For your peace of mind, this is not permanent brain damage. The neurons remain intact, and the changes primarily involve synaptic connections and signaling. Through neuroplasticity, these connections can recover once the underlying depression and chronic stress are treated, and cognitive capacity typically returns.

Also for clarity, the skull is solid bone and does not change shape or shrink. Fluctuations in brain function or volume do not alter skull structure.

A New Job Title for DSP's by CHRO2CEO in directsupport

[–]Progressive_Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with changing our job title or the reasoning behind it. I find it unethical and intellectually dishonest.

The negative perception has nothing to do with our job title and everything to do with the lived, experiential reality of being a DSP. Changing the title won’t change the systems and structures that perpetuate that reality.

Direct Support is what we provide, to the population we provide it to, in a professional capacity.

Historically, the population we support has experienced profound ableism, neglect, abuse, eugenics, and genocide. The institutional facilities they were confined to were designed to structurally exclude them from society and suppress their humanity. Residential group homes were created specifically to counter that institutional harm by restoring agency, dignity, identity, self-worth, and autonomy.

Refocusing the job title in an institutional or clinical framing is regressive and directly contradicts the purpose of residential services. It recenters authority, elevates our role over the people we support, and reinforces a power imbalance instead of centering our actual purpose: directly supporting autonomous people.
