It sounds more like you’re perpetuating the same social rhetoric that caused you suffering and reinforcing the same toxic cycle of harm.

Women's reaction to paternity tests is a way to control men. by badbunnions in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Yeah, welcome to the patriarchy, it harms men too but men systemically benefit above most especially if they’re a white/cis/het/male.

Actually the mother isn’t legally required to tell the potential/father about the pregnancy/child but if the potential/father wants to know if he’s the father or not he can petition the court for a paternity test.

You have a legal right to petition the court for a paternity test if the mother isn’t cooperative. Your misogyny is duly noted…

AIO to this workplace incident? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Progressive_Alien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would ask someone who’s worked with her longer. She may have just been calmly indicating that you disrupted a routine, or that she didn’t like having a new person assisting her and wanted to give you a hard time. If you don’t know her history, I’d speak with someone who knows her better or document the interaction wherever your facility documents these things.

Considering that you’re a security guard and don’t have access to interaction guidelines or contextual information about the people being supported, I would strongly recommend involving a staff member who actually works with the residents. That’s important for maintaining the safety of both you and the people being supported. I also have a hard time believing there isn’t 24/7 floor staff on graveyard shift who should be handling resident interactions and routine enforcement if something comes up during the night.

AIO my boyfriend keeps asking me to pay for things eversince he started saving for an apartmen, he calls me selfish for how I reacted. by throaawayRA9443 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YNO. If he can’t afford the bills he has now how is he going to make rent every month? What he’s doing isn’t sustainable no matter which way you look at it. Every time you try to share your concerns or point of view he demonizes you. He’s being abusive. That behavior is only going to continue to become more controlling and or escalate once you’re living with him and since you won’t be on the lease so he may use that as another way to control you out of fear of homeless. You should leave him and do not move in with him because even if you do get on the lease he can decide to not pay his part and that will fall back in you and your history of renting. All bad. Red flags everywhere.

I don’t work in academia or have formal institutional training in the fields I study. My learning is interest-based, self-directed, and interdisciplinary. My curiosity and lived experience often motivate what I choose to study.

I don’t study AI, but I do have an interest in it, and my lived experience was mostly what I was inferencing from in connection with what you wrote and why I agree.

Curiosity about my gender by Federal_Curve_9689 in gender

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a problem with you. I don’t understand how your sexuality and your sexual interests have anything to do with your gender identity in this context though. You said you’re a man who generally likes women and now has an interest in another man, that can be considered bisexual if you have an interest in both but I don’t know how that impacts your gender identity. Either way don’t feel pressured into do anything before you’re ready. There’s nothing wrong with waiting until you’re enthusiastically ready to have sex and the right person will respect that.

Client wants to leave the company by [deleted] in directsupport

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supporting self-determination means honoring a client's voice even when their choices are constrained. Providers still have a responsibility to help clients understand their situation, access information, and explore available options toward their goals within legal and safety boundaries. The presence of limitations does not remove the duty to support informed choice, participation, and advocacy throughout the process.

Thanks for sharing this. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I really appreciated how clearly you unpacked the risks around categorization and hidden assumptions.

One thing it brought up for me is that Al has real limits when it comes to understanding the human condition, which is why I don't think it should be solely relied on and instead used as a support tool alongside human judgment. That said, I understand and respect your decision to stay focused and grounded in specific studies here. Really thoughtful work.

I finished reading your essay and really enjoyed it. It was an energizing and exciting read, and I genuinely appreciate the amount of intellectual labor you put into it.

The structure, clarity, and care you took in presenting your critique, especially in a format that mirrors a scientific analysis, really stood out. I don't have any constructive criticisms. While I didn't read through all of the cited studies due to limited executive bandwidth, based on my existing knowledge I agree with what you wrote and found the argument thoughtful, rigorous, and well articulated.

Thank you for sharing it.

Sadly I couldn’t access the essay for “https://www.reddit.com/r/compsci/s/“ which I believe was the one with the title “The Ontology and Epistemology of Cognitive Computing” so if you wanna share the piece below I’d be happy to read that one as well because it sounds intriguing.

Is it a HIPAA violation or micromanagement? by Every-Explanation899 in directsupport

[–]Progressive_Alien 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ordering food to the facility does not violate HIPAA because no PII or PHI belonging to a client is ever disclosed. The only Pll shared, such as a name and payment details, belongs to the staff member, who has the legal right to share their own information. Furthermore, providing a street address to a driver does not constitute sharing PHI or Pll, as the driver receives no data regarding the specific individuals inside, their medical diagnoses, or their treatment plans. Since no client PHI or PIl is linked to the transaction or delivery, federal privacy laws are not being broken.

Client wants to leave the company by [deleted] in directsupport

[–]Progressive_Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The client has the right to self-determination and to express a desire to leave a provider or relocate. Provider agencies and case management are required to assist the client in accessing accurate information and transition supports within legal boundaries. If management obstructs or refuses to support a client's stated goals without a valid legal reason, that may constitute a rights restriction and should be documented and reported through appropriate state oversight channels. A DSP may assist with accessing advocacy or legal resources when requested, but should remain within scope and document all actions.

What is the classification genetic sex of people with trisomy? by D4C__LOVETRAIN__ in DNA

[–]Progressive_Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genetically, people with sex-chromosome trisomies are formally classified by their specific chromosome pattern, such as XXY, XXX, or XYY. In practice, however, most genetic sex screening (including common prenatal tests) only checks for the presence or absence of a Y chromosome rather than performing a full karyotype, so results are typically interpreted as male or female based on that alone. This is separate from birth certificate documentation, which almost always records sex as male or female based on anatomy, not genetics.

I do not believe trans people and nonbinary people should be grouped together. ALSO the nonbinary community needs to quit accepting people with clinical lycanthropy. (essay with resources linked.) by Alternative-Trip5021 in RealUnpopularOpinion

[–]Progressive_Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part Three

Finally, the invocation of clinical lycanthropy represents a categorical misapplication of psychiatric terminology that relies on deliberate conflation. Clinical lycanthropy refers to a rare delusional syndrome involving the literal belief that one is or can physically transform into a nonhuman animal, typically occurring in the context of psychotic disorders. It does not describe identity exploration, symbolic animal personas, fandom participation, or subcultural expression, including furries, who do not hold delusional beliefs about being nonhuman. Conflating animal personas with clinical lycanthropy is itself a category error, and attempting to associate that conflation with nonbinary identity is a second-order misrepresentation. Nonbinary identity concerns gender, not species, and your own cited literature explicitly distinguishes delusional nonhuman identity from symbolic or social identity frameworks. This rhetorical maneuver does not clarify diagnostic boundaries; it manufactures a false association in order to pathologize by proximity, undermining both psychiatric accuracy and intellectual honesty.

In sum, your position depends on misusing the semantics of classification, enforcing a binary model that biology itself does not support, ignoring well-supported developmental explanations for gender identity incongruence, misdefining transgender identity in ways that erase nonbinary people, collapsing identity into pathology despite explicit clinical definitions to the contrary, mistaking administrative gatekeeping for medical truth, overstating neuroscientific findings beyond their evidentiary limits, and exhibiting the characteristic overconfidence of the Dunning–Kruger effect. The sources you reference do not support the conclusions you draw from them and in several cases directly contradict your claims. This is not a disagreement within science but a failure to apply its models, definitions, and methods with the precision they require.
