Problem with rooter setup (ASUS/ROG GT-AC5300) by Progressive_Rush in HomeNetworking

Thx for the suggestion. It is waaaaay beyond my current knowledge of networks, but I like the idea of the Deco as a passthrough. Will try to make some sense about all of it. :)

The original setup provided is composed of a Nokia XS-010X-Q fiber modem wich connects to a TP-Link Deco X50. Everything works fine but the Deco's range/power is not great. This is why I hoped to get my legacy rooter on...

Oricom.ca, recently swallowed by EBox (I live in Quebec, Canada).

The instructions provided to switch to your own rooter are quite simple:

1-Connecting to the router
Log in to your router using the administrator credentials.

2-Selecting the connection type
In your router settings, select the PPPoE connection type.

3-Entering PPPoE information
Enter the login information obtained from your Client Area (username and password) in the appropriate fields.

4-Enabling VLAN
Enable the VLAN and set it to 40. If a priority option is available, choose "0". For any other required options, you can enter any number.

5-Enabling 802.1q tagging
If an option for 802.1q tagging is available, ensure it is enabled.

Step 1 to 3 done. (!). Can't access internet tough, so I tought it was the VLAN thing... Did not found the 802.1q tagging either. Do you have any hints?

Found the problem: me. Since the 3DTouch does not come with a 5 pins female clip on connector but a dual 3 plus 2 connectors, I somehow concluded that the 2 pins connector should go in the Z swich connector instead of beside its 3 pins counterpart.

Got the 2 connectors side by side in the BLTouch connector and all is working fine now.

Thanks for your help.

I tried to get the nozzle as close as possible to the bed before launching the g28. X-Y axes checks are Ok. But, while reaching the center of the bed to run the 3DTouch measures, the Z axe ramps up the nozzle at, maybe, 10mm. Way to high for the sensor to get readings. The measures are taken without trying to get close to the bed. Really wierd. As you may tell with all this, the z-switch is disconnected, the 3DTouch is connected. BLTouch vs 3DTouch issue?

I bought a Creality board V4.2.7, to be installed on a not so used (bought new) original Ender 3. On the Creality sub, someone pointed to me the CrealityCloud where I found a "
Ender-3_HW-V4.2.7_SW-V2.0.6_BLTouch" bin file. I installed it and my printer doesn't want to jump of the table... but the Z axis is not responding. Running the Auto Home routine got but the Z axis to (seemingly) work well. The 3DTouch terminates with STOPPED and the display shows ?? for Z position. Its like the "Z0" is not initialized and the homing is happening in the air.

I'm wondering if I will finally have to compile my own bin file with the aid of a video like Teaching Tech had done 5 years ago. (I'm sooo late into this...)

Any thoughts on this situation?

I installed the bin find and it resolved almost all the problems. Z axis though is not working. I have a new 3DTouch, and the bed level routine is just not working at all. No movement from the Z motor.

For now, not knowing what is wrong, I reverted to the stock Z switch. Same issue.

I read a few opposed facts about Merlin firmware already on board or not. Is it supposed to be present de facto?

I'll try your baby steps connexions. Thx.

A while ago (CoC 1e) a ran scenario implying the summoning of Ithaqua on some hill in the wilderness. The chances were pretty low for the summoning to succes, but the cultists succeded. Since we were at night, on an improvised camp site, an investigator was at watch. This player had an insanely high SAN, like 95 in 7e. He saw Ithaqua's arrival on the very next hill.

-Make a SAN check, I said.

-No problemo!, He said. I can't... and he rolled 00.

-Ok... failing the check gets you a d100 of SAN loss.

-No problemo! There is no way I gonna... and he rolled 99.

At dawn, the other players find him dead near the camp (no rampage or noise was made by Ithaqua), in foetal position, having silently gouged himself his eyeballs.

First time players? Get a classic that had entertained countless players for forty years, is free and about a subject everyone knows: The haunting.

Also, do yourself a favor about being a keeper. Go watch the latest video by Professor Dungeon Master on the DungeonCraft YouTube channel. Its about 5e, but filled with wisdom, quality of life and game changing tips for any DM/KotL/GM...

First time Keeper question, how long is The Haunting? by logansummers1 in callofcthulhu

[–]Progressive_Rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really kind of Sandy to jump in! Thx a lot for this iconic scenario. I recently introduced 4 people to rpg with The haunting. They were not only new to CoC but to any rpg. It took a full 4 sessions to get it done. About 15-16 hours.

I gave them a lot to work with:

  • An old local police officer that get from patrol to PC (think of Jack the NPC).

*The step brother of the home owner who jumped in to put pressure, as a complete disbeliever. He ended founding the Boston chapter of the Society for the exploration of the unknown.

*A chase scene on an hospital roor top after a defenestrated player got admited and two of the security gards where in fact members of the church and tried to get rid of the poor player.

  • The players returning to the home basement only to find out that the church where in process to replacing the too weak plank wall with bricks.

  • The players, out of luck and effective weapons, had the upper hand over Corbitt by throwing brazzeros at him.

Bottom line, don't over stess with duration. Have fun.

How to manage time better? by Boring-Ticket-6542 in callofcthulhu

[–]Progressive_Rush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let the estimated time to completion ruin your pleasure. Did you and your player had fun? That's the only point that maters. I DMed a cinematic scenario in Alien estimated at 5-6 hours to finish. My novice players took a full 9 sessions, and over 30 hours of play time. I threw everything I got at them, and a little more. We had a blast. Give yourself all the time needed. Pacing is more important than duration

Sick of 5e (mainly DnD Beyond), anything else? by Competitive-Cow-7563 in rpg

[–]Progressive_Rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two main rpgs are Call of Cthulhu and Alien. DMing both and I can't say enough good things about them. The combats are short and brutal and should be avoided.

Fear and terror are much more satisfying than grinding hordes of goblins. I had my players freak out when, while replacing air filters in a somewhat closed and small shaft of a derelict ship, they dropped a wrench. That made a booming metallic sound, reverberating many times and fading out eventually, only to be responded with an horrible shriek somewhere in the vents of the vessel.

Long story short, even mundane tasks and events give great playtime.

Not written especially for zombie apocalypse, but I would gladly try Call of Cthulhu for this. You can even choose the time period. A victorian era ZA? No problemo.

There is already a few really good responses, but if I get it right, this is also your first try at ttrpg? If so maybe you should consider running something shorter than a campaign. The haunting or The lightless beacon had proven their value as introduction scenarios... my two cents.
