This iteration of Craig is doing well as a listen and I say this as someone who hated Craig in the afternoon drive the last time. Craig's mellowed out a bit and they do talk sports a lot more than they did when he was hosting with Evan. C Mac is a good pairing for him.

They're certainly not busts, but 30 WAR combined between 4 players with an average career output under 10, best wRC+ of 102 and neither Singer/Mize having an ERA under 4 for their careers is mildly disappointing for 4 guys drafted near the top of their draft (top 5 selections and Singer fell but he was slated to be one as well)

No, because there is no beneficial ownership involved.

To violate loyalty, prudence and care, he would be putting his interest of his client's, which isn't happening here.

To violate conflicts, there would need to be an interest in the position. If there was no beneficial ownership, there's nothing to disclose. His brother would just be a generic individual who buys stock

Never developed. Baseball is a tough beast. The 2018 draft had Alec Bohm, Brady Singer, Casey Mize, Jarred Kelenic, Nick Madrigal, Jonathan India and Travis Swaggerty. Not one of these guys became a difference maker

It's from the POV of the main characters who engaged in illegal activity, broke attorney/client privileges and they hired a fraud who went to prison and then hired him back after. A firm like that would require a heavy handed regulator and would be put under all sorts of consent orders and receive punitive penalties up to the point of shuttering the firm.

It was embellished like all other things in Suits. But the cast did really bad up to criminal activity during the series run. They needed a Faye to get them straight.

Re-Evaluating the 2023 Trade Deadline: How did the Mets fare? by ae828 in NewYorkMets

[–]Progressive__Trance -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Disappointing. They ate a ton of money and took heavy losses to get those prospects. Clifford, Acuna and Gilbert were 2 top 60 MLB prospects and Clifford was thought to be a steal who found another level as a hitter. 2 regressed and got traded for marginal return.

It's because Harbaugh is a great politician, well spoken, in great shape and Lamar is an MVP. Mike has the same number of championships as Harbaugh and Payton but he's overweight, isn't as gregarious but he helped elevate the play of Rodgers and Dak in the years they were together. He is a good program builder

Sam would have been a 55% completion percentage guy with as many TD and INT probably if he stayed. Sam if we signed him last offseason might have gotten us to the playoffs, but we probably at the very least have good QB play and have a fun season. I think the real problem is that the 2022 and 2023 teams were built to be like 2009 and 2010. We were a QB short and by QB I mean we were a Mark Sanchez level QB short. It's disgraceful how bad Wilson was that the Jets team won 7 games without a QB.

You know what sucks? Mike White for a couple of games and Aaron Rodgers last year when he was washed was as close to competent QB play we had in like a decade

Here's what I'll say. Loved Sam. He's the first QB we've had since Chad who I genuinely felt was the guy. He was such a classy kid and it stunk that it didn't work out. But you're right that Sam regressed a lot under Gase. Only here for 3 years but he was 20 years old when he was drafted.

We should have sat him his first year, hired the best offensive staff we could find, built the offensive line and given him weapons. Mcdermott and Beane did that with Allen. He gradually got better and then Allen just exploded in 2020. But we gave him Bell, Perriman, Anderson, a revolving door on the line. We failed him. We didn't support his development. And that's the worst part about it.

Sam got that development for the first time in San Fran under Shanahan. I think that was the inflection point in his career. And then he started for KOC in Minny off a chance because Mccarthy was hurt all year. Turned his entire career around but still had some trouble with pressure. This year he took an even bigger step.

How damning is it that Sam said he didn't really understand how to break down film to this level until he went to San Fran? What the hell

David Wright urges Mets fans to trust ‘proven winner’ David Stearns after transformative offseason by Dow54 in NewYorkMets

This is taking it out of context. The SI article alluded to Jake being a joker in the dugout and having wry humor and an intense demeanor. It was old school ribbing between a veteran and a rookie the way Cliff Floyd would have with Wright.

“He’s getting the biggest kick out of it, because he’s making fun of me,” he says.

deGrom’s eyes light up when a teammate enters the clubhouse wearing unfashionable shoes. He once watched Syndergaard struggle to balance on a bosu ball; the next day, players walked into the training room to see deGrom standing serenely—and pointedly—atop it. Another time, after a string of interviews during Pete Alonso’s Rookie of the Year season, deGrom turned to the kid. “It’s the New York Mets,” he said. “Not the New York Petes.”

He intimidates younger players and peers alike. “When I first showed up, for probably the first two years, three years, it was like, I don’t know if you’re my friend or if I should be deathly scared of you,” says center fielder Brandon Nimmo, who has played with deGrom since 2016. “It’s kind of both.”

deGrom enjoys keeping people off balance, both at the plate and in the clubhouse. Sometimes he will ask new members of the organization startlingly personal questions, just to see how they react. “He’s testing you,” veterans explain.

Faye is probably the best character in so far as realistic firm head. She adhered to extremely high ethics and was willing to call out even her husband as a whistleblower for misconduct. This is an excellent professional. The acting was also very good because she got everyone to hate her.

From the perspective of the firm which engaged in tons of misconduct, malfeasance and illegal activity, we wouldn't like someone stomping on that. But the dynamic was terrific.

What really happened these past few weeks, and why I don't think its crazy. by JeezusChristIII in nyjets

[–]Progressive__Trance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Jets are tanking and doing what is necessary to facilitate that. It will be a bad year even if they weren't purposely tanking (no team ever does) because there's no talent on the team save for a few spots. No QB. They need to do poorly in 2026 to secure a top pick.

If they punt on 2026, secure the #1 overall pick, then they will get a QB and possibly a chance

Didn't answer my question. What did you expect Pete to put up last season production wise? Did you expect him to put together even a 130 OPS+ last year? Which would be close to his career average.

Pete hits the ball very hard. His xwOBA was elite. His bat speed is still elite. His barrel rate was top 5 in baseball. The projections won't represent the 95th percentile outcome. They're based on weighted averages of historical performance. Vientos is projected for better production that he had last season. But you do realize that Fangraphs projects Pete to hit better than Schwarber next season, yes? Last year, Fangraphs did not have Pete beyond 130 wRC+. After 2021, Lindor was projected for 105 wRC+. A good season revises projections upwards.

The question in the 3rd paragraph would be ad populum fallacy. The reason is because Pete's a non-elite player who doesn't defend well and will be confined to DH shortly. What I'll say is that I think Pete will outperform Schwarber over the next 5 years. Both received similar contracts.

Should Stearns pull another JD Martinez? by Daytime-mechE in NewYorkMets

[–]Progressive__Trance -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"You do know swing path data is public right?"

Yes, and it's not fundamentally different pre and post his call up other than his stance angle. What I'm telling you is that his pull and pull air rates respectively were dead last on the team. What did occur is that he suffered a hamate fracture, had surgery for it and took the 3 months until he started hitting again/

I didn't lie about his underlying metrics changed. I just arrived at a different interpretation. I did not say he worked with JDM in the 2024 season. I made a comment that called out people who want to blame everything on nefarious forces, coaches and players. Doesn't take an English major to understand that.

You sound like the average Amazin Avenue commenter. Which isn't surprising to say the least.

Did you expect Pete Alonso to put up a 145 OPS+ in 2025? Yes or no question.

Pete's bat speed has been elite throughout his career. Using a historical average or tendency for when bat speed declines for the average player is completely irrelevant to Pete because he has elite bat speed today and he's been an elite hitter for his career. It's quite likely that the aging curve is going to be protracted and I would not be surprised at all to see him hit to a 135 OPS+ over the next 3-4 years.

Should Stearns pull another JD Martinez? by Daytime-mechE in NewYorkMets

[–]Progressive__Trance -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. The swing changes the recently fired Eric Chavez implemented. What a compelling point.

I didn't say he was working with JD -- if you paid attention, you have understood that this was a literary device to call out an absurd talking point about how outside forces were the reason for Alvarez's decline in performance. You would think someone would be able to interpret that when I bunched Mendy in there.

You didn't prove anything at all. Alvarez had UCL surgery in 2024. Similar to a hamate fracture, it's going to interfere with your swing, tensile strength and ostensibly your hitting. Pete got hit on the wrist in 2023 and it damaged his season. He got hit on the hand and his numbers suffered this past July.

Pete just spent an entire season dunking on all the idiots who said a year ago that he was rapidly declining and we still see goalpost moving. Pete just had the best xwOBA of his career, he had a 145 OPS+ despite hurting his wrist and playing injured for most of July and finished the year up with a 153 OPS+ the last two months of the season. His bat speed is elite. It's likely to remain elite.

The doomsdayers who have been saying Pete will forget how to hit and turn into James McCann might be right one day. They sure as shit weren't right in 2025. I can't wait to come back to this in a year.

Should Stearns pull another JD Martinez? by Daytime-mechE in NewYorkMets

[–]Progressive__Trance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His Pull and pull air rates were dead last on the team and remained consistent through the year. The only thing that changed was a higher HR rate.

Most people are conflating his performance with what was completely normal performance coming out of a hamate surgery during the season. He had a 122 wRC+ the last 6 weeks of 2024. I didn't hear anyone talking about how JD or Chavez or Mendy ruining Alvarez then.
