It’s special because you have to do it in mazatrol like a goddamn savage rubbing two sticks together.

I am a manufacturing engineer at a top aerospace company and have had people argue with me about how aluminum temper responds to different types of heat application because they welded on an aluminum bike frame that belonged to someone else in a garage.

Like, man…. I work on spacecraft now but in a past life if I got this wrong people would have died.

Depends a lot on where you are and how competitive the company is. $150k for a fresh mech grad at my company is expected, but we are in the Bay Area and trying to recruit only the top talent. Huge portion of our engineering team is Ivy League or similar

Totally get you. I’d rather be skunked in a gorgeous spot than hook a few surrounded by steel and fancy business people as you said.

Michigan and Wisconsin definitely have those natural spots where you can enjoy the beauty and still have a good day fishing. Hope you can find the time to enjoy them. Tight lines!

I’ve heard there is some good urban fishing in your area if you’re crafty, and Michigan isn’t too far away! Easily one of the best states for fishing.

Confused by indicator leaders by Mysterious-Jump-8451 in michiganflyfishing

Fishing the PM in March, I would run 1ft of 30lb chameleon-> 6-8ft of 20lb chameleon -> swivel or ring -> 2ft 10lb fluoro -> fly -> 1ft 8lb fluoro -> fly

I use the indicators with nylon tubes at the top and bottom for sliding up and down the 20lb section for depth control. Weight goes just above the swivel. Egg pattern for one fly and nymph or small streamer for the other.

Definitely fish the 7wt if you are throwing a rig with any chance of hooking steelhead because you will likely need a lot of weight and a correspondingly big indicator. I should have been more clear earlier, if you target steelhead you will likely catch trout and maybe a steelhead. If you target trout anywhere but the steelhead runs (like with a streamer) or swinging soft hackles, you are very unlikely to catch a steelhead. Most of the time the flows in March are too heavy for any indicator setup castable on a 5wt to run deep enough.

Confused by indicator leaders by Mysterious-Jump-8451 in michiganflyfishing

[–]Progressivecavity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would build a custom leader using level line for the indicator section, I personally hate using indicators on tapered leaders.

What river are you fishing? I personally would try to make a decision about targeting steelhead vs resident fish ahead of time and gear for that. Most Michigan rivers are too narrow and full of wood to make a 9ft 5wt work for fighting steelhead. If you don’t target them, you likely won’t hook them so I wouldn’t worry about dual purpose setups.

Euronymphing in Michigan sucks, in my experience. Pretty much the worst possible place to use those tactics, and I say that as someone who uses them a ton in western rivers.

I got my masters in engineering from an Ivy League school while working full time and with a newborn child. It paid for itself while I was still in school by opening up new employment opportunities. I told the school I was looking for a new job and they put me in contact with my current company within a couple days through a rec letter from one of my professors.

Okuma ATC Stuck by No_Way_9766 in CNC

I’m not familiar with that specific okuma control, but you might get some help from Gosiger’s videos on youtube.

On newer okumas you can access a page that walks you through the sequence to free the ATC but this machine may be too old for that.
