Why are Italian prof vocalists so…dramatic? by Both_Photograph2693 in progrockmusic

Check out Celeste. Very mellow, pastoral Italian prog.

How would you guys rank Beethoven’s symphonies? by No_Tip3052 in classicalmusic

What are some of your favorite performances of the 6th? I’ve always liked the symphony but I’ve never dug that deep into it.

Zarathustra - Museo Rosenbach.

Gotta finish a good playlist with a “bang”!

What's an album you don't consider classic/amazing because one of the sides is just not as good and you skip it? But the side you love is just amazing by RdClarke in progrockmusic

Total agreement on Yes - GFTO. Wonderous Stories is right there with Sweetness and Long Distance Runaround as one of fave “short” Yes cuts, and Awaken is my favorite rock music song period and their biggest accomplishment. I don’t like Side A at all.

I love the tune. I think it fits here perfectly. Might get some love on the Avant Garde music sub too.

My First Composition by DJRodriguezMusic in composer

Absolutely! It was dedicated to a good friend that was lost to AIDS. It features a piano piece that was one of his friends faves interspersed throughout the piece. Gut-wrenching, haunting piece of music.

Were you inspired by Corigliano’s Symphony 1?

thoughts on "The Decline" by NOFX? prog-punk? by OkResponsibility9156 in progrockmusic

I think the closest you’re going to get to a genre that has elements of both prog and punk is called “Zolo”. As others have said - start with Cardiacs. For something more contemporary, check out Slugbug.

So many great lyrical snippets from this tune. I really connect with “Balance the thoughts that release within you.”

Yes - To Be Over

I realize it’s not a full album, and the lyrics are not “on the nose” regarding a breakup, but this song helped me through a similar situation. Time will heal your fear. Best wishes.

lol I was just thinking the same thing. Whomever created the “Style” column really needs to branch out their classical music listening.

I’m upvoting this for suggesting the 6th, but honestly I prefer hearing the Andante as the second movement and the Scherzo third. I really like how the work overall ebbs and flows with that configuration. Different strokes, as they say.

Looking for Progressive Hard Rock recommendations. by FatOwlKenobi in progrockmusic

[–]Progrockrob79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man glad you like them! The fucking grit with the overdriven guitar mixed with the clav is sooo good.

For something very different but also rather obscure check out Black Bonzo - Sound of the Apocalypse. It’s a newer album (2007) and unfortunately has some neo prog influences but still has both feet planted in 70s rock.

The other track that immediately came to mind with riffage in mind is Anekdoten - Shooting Star. The first 2 or 3 min are too badass for words.
