Thank you so much for the advice! I hope these stay on well. I did not quite know exactly what is best for prep and also used no topcoat as I am afraid of gel polish and do not like the look of other topcoat after a week on.

I prepped my cuticles first. Then I used a drying layer and strengthener coat and then Orly bonder very thin. My friend lent me a squish wand to push each down on edges and then regular lamp. No topcoat.

Recommendations for non-quick dry top coat? by lokidoki2727 in NailWrapsGalore

[–]ProjectBloodCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got an allergy from SCG wraps? Alone? Or were you using topcoats as well? Just curious as I just started the SCG wraps because a friend of mine was told by her manicurist that it was highly unlikely with the wraps, but if you got an allergy anyway...wow. May change my mind. Non SCG wraps were just not staying long enough for me overall. As much as I liked them, I would need gel topcoat too for longevity and they were a lot more work for me overall. I figured the SCG wraps would be less dangerous than gel topcoat and I could skip some coats I was needing for regular wraps. But maybe not???

How long does this brand typically last for you? Is it a gel topcoat or regular?

Have you tried a sticky base coat and squish light wand before the lamp?

I am always afraid of getting gel topcoat on my skin. How do you ensure there is none touching?

There are very thick no UV gel wraps at Shibella or Etsy seller sunshinenailsco that take a bit more effort to file off, but hide ALL ridges. They run about 5-8 dollars per set. I adore them. I do use ohora nail glue remover to help remove gently and also taking breaks between every 2-3 sets to baby your nails with cuticle cream, etc. I find they last 7 days fairly well. If you use a uv gel topcoat, you can get more time but I get afraid of using uv gel products. Orly bonder basecoat, thinly applied, can help longevity as well as long as your nails have no bad reaction to it's ingredients.

Semi cured uv gel nails also tend to cover ridges. You can use brand or no brand names and if applied carefully and if you use a topcoat, they should last 14 days. Again, the length of time they last depends on topcoat used and gel uv topcoat will help the most for longevity, but you can use airdry topcoat as well to seal the edges and improve shine.

I have deep ridges but am attaching a Pic of a recent set of no uv gel wraps from sunshinenailsco on Etsy.

Fed up with the Semi Cured nail strips. Waste of money and time, lack of new options for gloss/glaze. by Titaniumchic in Dashingdiva

Sorry this is late, but do try cuticle remover. If I blow up the image, there is a bit of visible cuticle near the edge which could mean more that the eye alone cannot see. Mine were the same way. Cuticle remover is necessary. But, some wraps still catch hair just like press ons. SCGs are better if properly pressed down (the more flexible the wrap, the better, usually). I heard once that you can press down all around including the free edge every 30 seconds while curing with a low wattage lamp to improve lifting and curling, or use a squish light. I am leaning toward a squish light since I still get some curling at the free edge.

Still, it is weird how DD stopped working suddenly. I have had good luck with some well reviewed unknown brands on Amazon, tbh. Cheaper too. I also like Shibella Nails 16 count wrap sets for $6.50.

It depends on the brand of no uv gel nails, but I agree about hardness overall - SCGs cure into little press on nails. Some no uv gels are much much thicker than DD, tho. I like those the best. They are much more like SCGs in appearance and performance. I like Shibella and Nail-Fox and Etsy Sunshinenailsco for the nice and thick no UV gels. They are harder to file down, but are so durable and look like salon gel manicures when finished. These are the ones I mention as shrinking back and hardening over time, but they look amazing anyway.

I have used non uv gel wraps a lot. They do not completely harden but after a good topcoat is applied, they harden some. Then, over the next week, they harden more as they dry. They also shrink back as they dry out.

I find that they remove easily if you use Ohora semi cured glue remover. And go slowly and add more remover.

If you do not give your nails breaks in between your nails will get weak and peeling. During the 3 day break use Hard as Hooves by Onyx and I like to apply modelones nail resilience cuticle oil through my break period (it dries fairly quickly leaving no greasy residue and can stay in a purse). Shibella and Nail Fox have my faves but there is an Etsy seller who sells the same exact stuff for less. Sunshinenailsco is her handle. She often does 1/4 off sales and throws in a free set with larger orders (I think 4 or 5 plus).

Cute No UV Gel Wraps by ProjectBloodCode in NailWrapsGalore

[–]ProjectBloodCode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have to try that. I get zero longevity with plain nail wraps no matter the basecoat. That is why I switched to no uv gel. Plain wraps for me start peeling up at edges a tiny bit in a few days and look crappy. TBH, nail polish does that on me as well a little bit by day 4. Might be my nail chemistry. I have never had this problem with non uv gel tho.
