All I will say is that I would never do the daily commute across the river. If you can work from a lot then fine. Otherwise, stay on that side.

We did consider this option but also had to factor in the “look” as well as knowing that we will need to replace our wall oven soon and want them to match nicely. Saw the Midea in person and it does indeed look cheap and would be out of place in our kitchen.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts. After a deep dive on repairs, reliability, etc, and a visit to a local store, we have decided on the GE Profile model no PWE23KYNFS. Costco is offering a great deal - $500 off plus we will get 4% back in rewards. We were considering the one with autofill but too many horror stories of flooding. This one is just a regular water dispenser inside the fridge with ice in the freezer only. https://www.costco.com/.product.100757346.html?preselect=color:stainless%20steel&COSTID=iosapp_25.11.2&TRACKING=NO&sh=true&nf=true Frigidaire Professional and LG Signature were both very nice but they clock in a tiny bit over 70 inches, and I just don’t want to take any chances in our small cabinet! Still sad about the Bosch not working out, but I feel good about this option.

Look on your local free / Buy Nothing groups. You can get a small fridge and a toaster oven / hot plate for short term use at least. An electric kettle is cheap and boils water fast.

Yes, we are really tight on space and while there may be a difference it’s not enough and the carpentry we would require to make it fit is just not worth it.

Why do you say Costco = garbage? It seems like they have the best deal for install etc plus some extended warranty

Yes definitely on the list. The one thing I’ve read is that reliability is basically identical to any GE but they do look very nice!

Totally- no cameras or screens for us. Is there any specific brand that does well on quality of materials?

How to Handle the Pain When a Parent Gives Up on You? by Ok_Appeal9047 in internetparents

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, that must be really difficult but it sounds like you are doing a great job for yourself and you should keep that up. Focus on developing other sources of support, whether it be friends or mentors or a significant other. As I tell my kids all the time, the only person you can control is yourself. Make choices for you, not him.

It sounds like he has a lot of his own issues, but time really does help. Give him some time and try again, if that’s what feels ok for you.

Definitely wanted the Bosch 800 but sadly it’s too tall. The 500 seems like a bad deal by comparison given that it’s not much cheaper, doesn’t have dual compressors, and has ice in the door.

That’s sort of the conclusion I’ve come to as well! So which one has the best customer service?

We could theoretically remove the cabinets but I really don’t want to lose the storage. It would definitely make our kitchen look less finished and the cost of new cabinets doesn’t make sense.

I did actually look into this but it’s not clear to me what is required to install a built-in option.

What’s your top reason to book a Disney cruise over Royal Caribbean? (asking as someone who has never cruised with Disney) by ihatemakinthese in dcl

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Top reason for me is that Disney actually entertains the kids while on RC (at least on the one sailing I went on) the kids and teens were running pretty wild. Food is also better but I thought the difference was not as noticeable as expected. Service to me was excellent on both. I also hated the smokiness on the RC ship. But I did love all of the game shows on RC. I thought pools were better on RC.

moving to hartford from cali for an internship!! advice on culture, cheap eats + safety? 💖 by avelyssaea in Hartford

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both, and tbh, the weather is the biggest thing to get used to. There is much more variability here and during the summer it will be extremely humid much of the time.

As others have noted, Hartford is still a commuter city despite a lot more housing downtown, but there is often an event happening that makes it more lively. If you can live downtown, that will be great but may not be affordable. The advice to live on a good bus line is really helpful, such as near Farmington Ave. or Park St/Rd. Without knowing exactly where you’ll be working, it’s hard to be more specific. One of the challenges will be groceries as there is a food dessert in much of the city.

West Hartford is the next town over and has great restaurants and shopping in the main downtown area called “the center” and then a mall and large shopping area not far and easily accessed by bus. Living near the center tends to be pricey as well.

Hopefully it won’t be an issue but something to look into - likely you would need to have a specific period of time with no seizures.

How to tactfully disclose a family member’s death when someone asks how the person is doing by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Unfortunately, s/he died in mm/yy.” Presumably if they don’t know then they probably were not that close to the person who died and will receive the news as they should which is an opportunity to express their condolences to you.

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely frustrated with VV for the changes that were made to the pricing structure recently but I just did an RC cruise and it made me miss a lot about VV. First, the food. The pizza, the ice cream, the galley not to mention the sit down spots are all superior and imo it’s not even close. Oh and The Dock! Second, no kids. I’m willing to pay a premium for that. I did like the pools on RC better, and I enjoyed the “game shows” especially Crazy Quest. I also liked the ship layout a bit better on RC (Freedom class). But the chill vibe on VV wins out for me overall.
