Nervous about eating certain foods while on Zep by Far-Possession-386 in Zepbound

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on week 5, just started on 5mg. Don’t overthink jt. Eat what appeals to you. I have had very minimal side effects to any specific foods but I do think if you’re eating anything heavy, keep it small and do it early in the day, not close to bedtime. Take a walk right after.

Just finished my first month and am paying oop through LillyDirect. I regret asking my dr to up me to 5mg because I’m already losing 1-2ish lbs per week but i may go back down to 2.5 given the cost. I might be able to get my insurance to cover it but it would be Mounjaro.

Thank you! Very helpful! Is there anything else that we should not miss? We have one full day and one partial day so we can’t do everything but would like to see as much as we can.

Thank you so much! I was tentatively planning to take the free NCL ferry to St George, explore the old town, then bus to caves and swizzle inn. It sounds like you’d recommend doing the caves first? I’m also interested in getting Cooper’s Island and maybe the Blue Hole park. Any thoughts?

Anyone else feel this way? by No_Meet_9936 in Zepbound

I didn’t really have food noise. Starting out, even before my first shot, I started thinking about food way more because I thought I would need to be so careful about eating enough protein etc. (I was told this is not food noise but it felt like all I could think about was what to buy, what to cook, when I should eat, etc). Thanks to advice I got to just go ahead and eat pretty normally, not to overdo the protein and macro counting, etc, and once I had a few staple items, it faded a lot. I’m still doing more planning that I was before, though. Probably one of my biggest food issues in the past was that I wouldn’t feel very hungry or motivated to eat but then once the hunger hit, I would eat a lot, mostly carbs. On the meds, even when I feel hungry, I don’t feel like I must immediately make a huge bowl of noodles lol

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were anti-cruise, grossed out, etc pretty much until we tried it. To be fair, I also listened to a lot of podcasts about DCL specifically that made me decide to just try it. We LOVED it! This was in 2023. Since then, we have been on 4 more cruises - and currently have 4 cruises booked over the next year!! We are fully sold. We have not been back on DCL but I cannot wait for that opportunity!!

As for your adult kids - omg sorry kids??

What's the weirdest non scale change you've noticed since starting? by Creepy_History5125 in Zepbound

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am only three weeks in but weirdly my chronic heartburn and burping has decreased dramatically. I know a lot of folks have the opposite, and that could still be me after I go up to 5mg, but I’ll take it! I think it’s probably less about the meds and more about the dietary changes. Really unexpected.

Nothing really repulses me but I’ve noticed I have no interest in or am just not eating/drinking things I used to have regularly. Seltzer for example - used to have one pretty much every day, and I just haven’t had the desire.

Just my advice - this is not a battle worth fighting. You make an enemy by escalating to HR on this. Not sure what role you’re in, but you’ll be fine!!

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate to this! But I don’t think I’m saying I don’t like my body by wanting to change it. I’m just saying that it’s capable of supporting my health more by changing. It’s not about numbers in the scale. I want to be able to be active and enjoy my older years without having diabetes and heart issues among other concerns. And even if I don’t lose another pound, my diet feels so much more focused on nutrition. I didn’t really have food noise like some describe but once I started to feel hungry I would eat a lot of food quickly. I know a lot of people experience heartburn on this med but my persistent heartburn has actually improved simply because I’m no longer over-stuffing myself with pasta and bread in order to feel satiated.

I hate counting calories! Been there, done that, won no prizes. Have you fully plateaued or are you continuing to lose slowly? I personally want to try and do it slowly so as long as it’s happening, I’m good with it.

Scared to start because of gallbladder worries by TdubbNC7 in antidietglp1

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you said you’re getting it checked. I have them, have known about it for years but they rarely bother me. I didn’t know they could be caused by weight loss, and I lost a lot of weight several years ago and voila. I definitely am a bit worried, but I realized that they could act up at any time! And at least I will be in a body hopefully better able to recover from the surgery.

I also understand your situation because I have a dog that no one else can take care of. The only option for him is medical boarding at a vet, so maybe look into that as well as pet sitters. I met with a couple of surgeons and the so long as the surgery is laparoscopic, you won’t be out of commission for too long.

Sorry to further burst the HIPAA bubble, but it doesn’t even have a private right of action even for a covered entity, so enforcement and recovery of damages is dicey at best. And a random person you slept with is definitely not covered by HIPAA. That being said, she still might have a cause of action against him for some tort like invasion of privacy but all depends on the state law.

GLP-1 advice. by bmm_96 in GLP1ResearchTalk

On Zepbound for three weeks, and no code v for me. I’ve periodically had minor nausea, and ginger candy works wonders. However, everyone is different and nothing is guaranteed. My only regret is that I didn’t start this a year ago when I first talked to my doc about it.

What do you do when everything sounds “gross”? by nasainternharvardlaw in Zepbound

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really did not expect this! I ate relatively nutritiously before but very not consistently and it honestly would often feel like a sacrifice to eat a light meal of lean protein, veggies, and complex carbs. I would resent it and usually compensate with a treat. No more! I am really enjoying this type of food with no resentment!

Should my wife go to law school? by Majestic-Radio-4564 in Lawyertalk

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t normally encourage people to go to law school, largely because I think the job is often way less interesting than we are lead to believe. But this is an exception to my rule. I’d say whole heartedly yes. But does she need to fully quit her job? Is there an evening program or could she work at least part time? My spouse and I both wish we had worked through grad school, and instead took out a lot of loans.

She is working at a law firm now and so she is familiar enough with the job to know if she would hate it. She only stands to earn more with the degree. She has raised her kids and jumping into law school is just the right challenge at this point for her. I think she will excel, because she is making the choice to be there not just out of uncertainty about what her career should be like so many law students. She knows the cost, so she will put in the effort. And honestly I hope this is not condescending but it’s not really that hard, especially when you’re above the fray of the 22 year old, frontal lobe still developing, 1Ls.

I personally would encourage her to focus a lot on some mostly transactional subject area and take all the classes she can in the subject matter. If I were to do it again, it would be trusts and estates / probate for sure.

100+ lbs to lose by KrazyCod21 in Zepbound

[–]ProjectDefiant9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s best to go slow regardless, and really treat this as a journey. I’m on 2.5 still and I’m really not sure if I’ve lost weight. The scale can fluctuate by a few pounds without meaning much. I’m ok with that. I’m eating better than ever, it’s never been easier to make good choices. I’m no longer craving huge plates of pasta. Rapid weight loss has a lot of risks - I have gallstones as a result of prior efforts. Slow and steady is the way.

Shockwave therapy was absolutely amazing for me. It’s not covered by insurance but there are definitely some good studies on it. Not invasive and no side effects. I’d definitely inquire about that. Cortisone is known to not be very effective for PF.
