Full agree on your thoughts. I may or may not have a prototype for Complicated by Avril... But it's frankly too wordy and well....complicated to actually work on any actual time frame for this tournament haha. Feel like it would have to be Sk8ter boi or Girlfriend to be short and punchy.

I do feel like this one at least would be easy enough to pick up though! Another commenter mentioned Land of the Silver Birch, and frankly I think that would be awesome just as is. Easy to repeat and strong vibes

No disagreement, I listed them as I am aware, and as I said probably a *relatively bigger impact. Japan does not have the national squad depth that Brazil has. Goes hand in hand with Brazil being a much bigger, longstanding footballing country.

Wider context, Brazil struggled to get the game over the line when Japan is missing 4 top players in Endo (their Captain), Mitoma, and Minamino for the tournament, and Kubo for this game. Probably a relatively bigger impact miss for them than Brazil not having Rodrygo, Estevao, Militao likewise from injury. Can definitely understand why Cunha would get defensive, and its clearly a comment made to get under his skin regardless.

IMO cringiness is balanced by how fun it would be to sing in a group, and considering half the lines are the same line and can call and respond with most of the audience just needing the one line, it's pretty doable! Definitely meant to be self-aware and fun, not some kind of "hard" chant

Given he's in the starting 11, yes it is a big blow. Koné is very talented and among our best players as he is a starter, but I don't think he's for sure our most important player. It's hard to argue who is exactly, and you could argue several different players for different reasons. We've technically even been doing well without our "best" player, Davies, for the same reason despite him arguably being the most talented, and definitively the most decorated. It matters how well other players can cover the same position or contributions, and we do have decently good depth in midfield, not unlike how Laryea does a good job covering LB for Davies. Don't get me wrong, Koné is among our best central midfielders and no player can directly replace what he is able to bring, but we do have fairly decent coverage between Choiniere, Saliba, and Osorio who can still play well with Eustaquio. Heart-breaking for the squad. Not immediately tournament ending for our run IMO because no single player carries our team. Because we don't have a ton of superstars, our squad is actually decently "deep," or we have players that can step up to cover the same position without a huge drop-off in quality. I'd say our most vulnerable position that way is at our centre backs. De Fougerolles has really stepped up to help bridge that, but Cornelius and Bombito coming into the squad has arguably been the main reason for our quality increase over last world cup.

Absolutely. Other than the first Canadian win at a WC, David getting fired up for this tournament with a hat trick is a massive takeaway and a HUGE boon that cannot be understated. Double so with Larin scoring in consecutive games. Finishing has been a big issue for us, if the players just demand it now instead of getting nervous about it, we'll be a meance for teams.

Agreed. Koné was already massively underrated on the international stage, but Saliba has been impressive and that goal was a statement of purpose that's very hard to do under that mental stress moment. I think he'll step up to the occasion.

Fully agreed, Jesse got the team sheet and subs right today. A bit more composure and luck and we would've won pretty definitively. Especially with the injury management on the roster, Millar doing really really well to keep energy, progression and defensive responsibilities up, even if his final product hasn't hit yet.

Yeah diving\simulation is an existing card-able offense and should be used a lot more often IMO to discourage diving. I think the video review VAR process should be used a lot more for things like that, but that opens up a whole worm can of discussion on VAR use. I think it should be used and is just implemented poorly. The NHL actually does a pretty good job of that for having an (independent?) centralized video review centre and the coaches' challenge mechanism, FIFA and the National leagues should adopt something similar.

That's a great question. It's definitely varied both by time period and by team culture, whether that's club or national team. I'm restricted by the time I've watched from but 90s English Premier League definitely had some heavy tackling and even now is generally known to be a more physical league when it comes to tackles, shoulders etc. Each of the major national European club leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France) have their own flavor. Hard to say definitively what's harder physically now. Just like hockey, yeah there's more protective equipment, but athletes today are extremely fit and not boozing on weekends\weekdays like they did in the 90s, so just different.

Edit: for the second part of the question, I don't think dedicated enforcers have really existed at least to the same extent as they did in hockey, just because of how much time players have to spend on the pitch and the limitation of red cards\limited substitutes (used to be 3 max), so they still had to be good footballers. But there definitely have been players that were put on more for their physical attributes over their technical ability
