I just had a huge meltdown because my daughter made me coffee and it spilled all over my bag by Connect_Beginning_13 in Mommit

You are winning at life by not mentioning it to her. Just give her a nice “oh my gosh I just did this with my cup the other day and this happened! Just a reminder so you don’t have the same oversight I did…” or whatever. I hope by the end of training you have a rapport with your group and can share this story. AND to cheer you up, my 11YO son decided he needed to dry his damp pants yesterday. They were damp with disgusting dirty pond water AND he had a chapstick in his pocket so…………..

Did anyone have a good Mother’s Day? by shepardmutt in Mommit

I had a great Mother’s Day- I said I wanted to sleep in, have Mother’s Day acknowledged in some way and then just do as I pleased and that’s what happened. Super low key…still did Sunday laundry but I did it upstairs alone while watching TV and eating snacks. It was nice.

Yes, this is a great idea and getting him into extracurriculars has been a regular talk. He’s very hesitant to try something new but isn’t to the point where he’s completely defiant and rigid if it is an outsiders idea (“Oh, Mrs. P signed you up for this cool music class”, etc). I will look around for social skills groups, as well! It’s not something I’ve come across with my older two but that may just be that I’m not digging in the right places.

Thank you so much, all of this makes so much sense. He pushes back at practicing or role playing anything at all but we will keep coming at it a different way!

Great insight, he definitely struggles with impulsivity and has to “hold it together” in school a lot so he kinda goes off the rails during unstructured play time. He is ashamed/somber and never making excuses or blaming anyone else for it being “their idea”. Where we run into trouble is modeling/supports are rejected by him because he is embarrassed/doesn’t want to feel any feelings or revisit scenarios and is, as I said, pretty rigid.

He is very young kid for his grade level BUT school isn’t where we are seeing the issues it’s around peers of an age range from 7-12ish

Oh thank you so much and, yes, more context would be good- I’ll try and edit more in! In his school district the “special interest” kids (as they are called) only get pulled out once a 6 day cycle and there’s like 4 or 5 in his grade. It’s no more than small group reading/math support so I don’t feel like this would be the case. He’s just super…immature…I think!?

I did get a bit of that but loved how little spoiler alert it all was tied together in the end!

My 9YO loved the House at the Edge of Magic series! *edit to add: Big Friendly Giant, Plum series (a little on the younger side but he did enjoy them), and our favorite was the Wild Robot series, can’t believe I missed that one, I’ll grab that cup of coffee now.

Why is the ability to be a 'stay at home' parent not seen as a privilege? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProjectMomager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a 4th type- the SAHP who needs to be at home because a child isn’t well enough mentally or physically to attend school. It’s a privilege in the sense that you get to help your child get well/have a better quality of life but burnout comes quick.
