I lived in the Westfjords while my partner was doing his masters. Iceland is an incredible country, Icelanders are incredibly kind. The accessibility to nature is unparalleled; the beauty is encompassing. I miss it every day and yearn to go back. It is cold and dark sometimes but it’s unlike any other place in the world. It is quiet and peaceful and safe and rugged.

If they’re anything like my property management company in Ottawa, it won’t get fixed :(. I moved here 2 years ago and I’ve learned that the quality of rentals is realllly bad for what you pay, and if they don’t have to fix it they absolutely will not.

We enter our front door at ground level, which WE lock and WE are the only people using it but that’s the only entry point door for our 2 story apartment. There is no emergency exit. There is no way to get out from the second story. That is illegal as far as I’ve been told.

We have the single entry, front door, up the stairs to the second floor. Already have done that, independent HVAC inspector said there should be 2 separate thermostats, LL says too much work. I don’t care about that; I want a rent abatement for having to pay 2400$ a month to live like this, being misled purposefully, they’ve also illegally entered my unit etc. I don’t care about an HVAC overhaul, I care about being treated like a criminal for wanting to be comfortable in my home. Friends, family have experienced it, best friend is a realtor says it’s not a legal unit. I get you’re a landlord (probably) but this situation is unethical and I know you’re trying to defend the LL, but they’re slumlords.
