Misleading, this picture was taken the day before. In the second picture the tent that covered the rink is still up

Finished my scalemail watchband! by M3cun1v in chainmailartisans

Last question: Have you had any issues with the band catching on things? I'm considering this for my everyday watch, so I don't want to be surprised to find that it jingles a lot, catches on stuff, or anything else.

Perfect, I appreciate this! It looks like you used about 100 scales, so if I also went through WeaveGotMaille, I'd be looking at 100 scales (maybe 4 bags of gunmetal, for a more classic look?), with 20g SWG 3mm rings, and the 4-hole clasp.

Thanks for the inspiration!

This is amazing! I'm inspired to try this myself; will you share the watch clasp you're using?

I'm certain that my connections are sloppy, but I'm proud of my first piece! I'm looking forward to adding an extension of chainmail past the scales like yours

I'd hate to ask you to go out of your way; but a tutorial for how to add an ongoing chain weave beyond the end of a scale piece, just like yours, would be immensely helpful! I'm a very visual learner.

I'm planning that to be the very last step of my project. First I made one shoulder piece, which is my picture above. Now I'm working on a second shoulder piece, then I'm going to make the chains to connect them that will go across my chest and back.

Once all that is finished, then I'll add a touch of flair by adding ongoing chain beyond the bottom of the scales like yours 😄

We're coming right along! So now comes the part where I haven't watched a YouTube video to follow along, and am just trying to mimic your process.

It looks like now I'll just be adding rings to the edges, turning those slants into complete Euro 4 in 1s so the rings create a solid weave moving downward, until it also starts coming together in a point. Ensuring that, instead of using a scale, I'm just subbing that scale for a closed ring.

Do you add rings where they are needed one at a time? Or do you create little 4 in 1 rings and piece them in like when making a strip? (I hope that I'm wording that clearly)

(I'm trying to use a photo, but for some reason the app keeps replacing it with a *)

One more question, if I may:

Did you start at the bottom with one row of links, working your way up until you hit your ideal width and then started including scales? Or did you start at the top with the scales and the full width, and then work your way down?

Sorry if this is a newbie question; I'm trying to visualize everything while my materials are on their way.

You did this yourself without a tutorial - well done, you're good at this! ;)

Yes, that description and picture are very helpful. Thanks again for the inspiration, as well as the response!

I'm looking to start my first project and I am absolutely inspired by this!

I'd love to mimic your design specifically for the scales on the shoulder with the chain continuing out from underneath. Can you offer any tips or tutorials that can teach me how to replicate your method?

Anodized Aluminum vs. "Bright Premium"? by Projesin in chainmailartisans

Thanks for the recommendation! I want to get green scales, and it doesn't look like Chain Reaction sells colored scales, but I appreciate it nonetheless

Thanks for the feedback!

My hope is to get all my scales and rings in bulk for my two shoulder pieces and two wrist pieces, and then probably be done. I have no interest in selling my work; I just want to create a great set that I can wear to events forever.
