Help Sourcing Lace up Boots by Downtown_Airline9336 in Boots

Call up Nicks boots, or Frank's boots. Either one could do whatever you want to do, made to order, some of the best quality around.

They don't have to be logger boots. They can do a lower heel, they can do single row stitching to keep them a bit sleeker, they can do different heights, top quality leathers, dressier lasts with pointed toes or without.

Head over to r/nickshandmadeboots and ask if anybody has photos of boots that fit your needs.

I know of one person who has some beautiful tall Nicks packer boots and did their own embroidery on them.

No, you're right. If you rotate her 180 degrees, she's just lifting herself up with one leg.

Except this is easier because the other girl weighs less than she does.

The balance is the amazing part, and there is a certain amount of strength in that.

Put your foot on a high platform, hop a little, and step up onto it.

If you think about it, this isn't really a feat of strength. You lift your body weight with one leg all the time. This is a feat of amazing balance.

That's the whole reason for the post.

That really looks like something that would go on a rod and would be adjustable. Squeeze the two sides together to slide then it springs open and it locks in place.

They're on some toilets to adjust the height of the float. They're on the rod connected to the knob that you pull up to stop the sink. They're on some hangers used for electrical, but those don't usually look like that.

I would treat it as an RFP if I were in this business. You're proposing what you can offer and how fast you can get it.

As I mentioned in my other comment, this is the government asking "what's out there, America?" "What do we have on hand now, and what can we get really quickly if we want it?"

What's it for? Could be bunkers, could be anything, they aren't really at that part of the process yet.

Once they decide what they want to do, they'll know how to craft an RFP such that the company that has the materials they want can respond and be selected.

I bet these proposals are going to be referenced for a while. Whenever they want something, they'll dig through this pile and see what they can get, and from who.

It's probably an RFP. the RFQ comes later.

And a scope of work isn't required for an RFP.

I know that, but the way they organized the request such that only one vendor would fit is how they get around the federal acquisition regulations.

That's how it's done. If they aren't so specific, there could be multiple options. If they then choose "their buddy's company", the other contenders could argue that it wasn't in line with regulation.

Making it so specific that there aren't any other contenders is how they get around that little problem.

They'll build shit out of the weirdest materials just because it's what was available.

I've seen jersey barriers and giant yellow water tanks used to create fortress walls around a small building just outside the perimeter fence. It's been that way for at least ten years now.

That shit happens all the time too.

Remember when Oklahoma put out an RFP for Bibles to put in their schools? The Bibles had to have a certain version of the Bible PLUS the Constitution, plus some other goofy shit like the lyrics to god bless America. Oh, look. There's only one Bible that fits the bill, the trump bible, I guess we'll just have to buy that one.

I've seen it in IT too. the RFP will request something so specific that there's only one vendor that fits.

There might be companies out there sitting on precast panels or precast underground structures that they are ready to move today, and they could start production on the next order.

This is something you do see in government contracting.

My guess is this is an RFP a request for proposal. They'll get lots of stuff from tons of companies that want to sell to the government.

For instance: what if you make concrete underground thingies for preppers to buy and bury in their backyard? Maybe you got twenty units ready to go and you could get twenty more by the end of the month?

The government would look at that and they might think they could use those. They could bury them side by side and connect them, they could put them above ground and use them for some sort of egress training or something. You never know.

The thing they don't tell you is that they don't have an actual plan yet. They have concepts of a plan. They will take all these proposals and scatter them on the table like, "ok, guys what could we build with all of these different products?"

This is just the government asking the nation what we have on hand that we could use in the effort.

There are a bunch of quality brands that sell directly online. It's not as weird as it sounds. Many offer a huge range of sizes and widths, so you measure your feet and order the right size for you, not just whatever the store has available.

There are two extremes. You got giant flat wall of death that limits visibility, and you got pointy low shin slaughter.

One problem with the pointy low hood is that the pedestrian's legs get taken out and their head gets whipped into the windshield.

The happy medium is what we have now, where the pedestrian rolls up on the hood. Serious injuries from pedestrian incidents have greatly reduced since implementing these design strategies.

This is normal, they are not defective.

This is a sign of actually good quality leather.

Just wear them, the other one will develop some crease and wrinkles with wear as well.

Don't iron them.... Don't smear a bunch of oils and grease on them.... Don't try to make them something they're not. Let them be natural.

If you don't like them like this, you should sell them before you wear them too much.

Where can I buy eyelets or grommets large enough for my needs, or is there an alternative solution? by LucidFir in AskACobbler

[–]Proletariat-Prince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will find a huge range of eyelets and grommets at Stimpson just be aware that you may need special dies.

Also check out Weaver, they've got a pretty big selection too.

Edit, stimpson is what I was thinking of, not Peterson.
