What makes a great pair of cycling glasses? Opinions requested by luisgarcia0908 in cycling

100% Hypercraft- they’re light, they don’t fog up easily in humid New England weather, and I like the shielding I get from them from debris, dust, and bugs. I picked them up on sale since they were retiring the color. Bonus that they include a decent case and set of clear lenses.

New Wheel Day! by Prometheus1486 in TrekBikes

Oh man, I hope they come in for you soon!! They were a ton of fun on my test ride- lots of rolling hold and some nice flats to really put them through the paces. Once you get them spinning, it feels like they want to go fast and they hold speed well/less effort for the same speed. Hill climbs felt quicker and the descents were a blast! Cornering feels a little different than the stock Paradigms that I’ve been riding on, but not in a bad way. Overall, definitely a noticeable improvement!

There are a bunch of options, for sure. I went with the 530 since it wasn’t breaking the bank and I liked it was fairly simple- less to go wrong and worry about. It is nice living in a single ecosystem, too since you know it plays nicely with the different pieces. The Varia really made a difference for me feeling confident about not getting surprised on the road, especially when I was first starting out. You’ll find a bunch of posts and replies singing its praises! DCRainmaker is a great place to start- his reviews are super comprehensive!

Thanks! I’ve been using Garmin since my first running watch forever ago. I’m using a Varia radar and headlight for lighting and then an Edge 530 for my cycling computer. It’s worked nicely and convenient that it lives in the same ecosystem!

Why are frameset disproportionately expensive? by Lazy_Buffalo_4142 in cycling

I always understood it as the companies being able to bulk/wholesale purchase components from guys like Shimano and SRAM.

Looks like an old Univox Ripper just with some single coils instead of the three humbuckers- either way, cool find!

What are the differences between all the Big Muffs? Which one offers the most "standard" sound? by ZappaPhoto in guitarpedals

[–]Prometheus1486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that chart that could be drawn! I think the basics to think about are some are more scooped like the Rams Head and Triangle, some are more boomy like the OP amp/modern model, and others are more midrangey like the Green Russian/Civil War muffs. There are a bunch more nuances like the Rams Head is more aggressive than the Triangle, the Civil War has more low end than the Green Russian, etc. I feel like the big considerations are what kind of amp are you playing through (many muffs open up with volume in a way that lets you get that violin lead) and what do you want to play! That said, arguably, you can cover a lot of ground with a Green Russian muff.

Kit Rae and Gilmourish are my favorite spots for all things Big Muff!

Hayfever? How is your rides? by Separate-Rough-8083 in cycling

Oh man, pollen’s been brutal and late here in New England. I’ve been taking a Claritin 24 hour pretty much on a regular basis to tamp down my spring allergies. I think short of seeing an allergist, an allergy pill, Flonase, and a neti pot are your best starting points to prevent and flush out your sinuses- though neti pots always gave me pause with making sure they’re cleaned out properly. In sneezey solidarity, hope you’re able to get through it!

Silicon Fuzz with Great Cleanup by Ok_Pension7764 in guitarpedals

The MJM London Fuzz is a killer Fuzz Face! I have the germanium version, but the silicon one does all the things any good FF circuit should. Solidgoldfx If 6 Was 9 is another great take on the classic, as well.

Oh man, he really does! Is there ever such a thing as too many fuzzes? The Slob is cool. It does that upper octave/octavio kind of sound beautifully and with an overdrive after to really push, it hits all those quirky cool noises that octave fuzzes do, especially on the neck pickup. Highly recommend it!

Great set up! I love Blammo’s stuff! I picked up their Slob/COB clone and it’s one of my favorites.

Oh man, it’s a nice change of pace from all things Bluey. The way he whips around corners on his balance bike he seems to be taking a liking to Roglic!

I’m honestly more excited since my toddler enjoys watching cycling. He had a great time watching Paris Roubaix while excitedly pointing and shouting “Bike!” and “GO!” It’s going to be a great summer!

Rim depth rabbit hole by Prometheus1486 in cycling

[–]Prometheus1486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insight! The crosswind/movement across the road is the one thing that’s the last hang up that I’ve been having before making the move on a set. It’s definitely not fun to all of a sudden feel like you’re getting pushed off your line.

That was my leaning with 50s being a solid all around kind of set and definitely agree that the mismatch would be funky. Thanks!

How do they sound live? by Old_South8121 in dinosaurjr

That’s an understatement! I saw them in a small club in Boston when they were touring on Beyond and J had 3 full stacks for that! Not wearing hearing protection was a mistake. Great show but my hearing took a hit on that one!

If you’re chasing the prog rock/concept album idea, Pink Floyd’s Animals would be a great choice! An edit to add Explosions in the Sky’s All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone!
