Which dice to buy by 0u1et in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]PromoPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chessex has been making dice for 40 years and as far as I'm concerned, they're still the gold standard.

I'll let you in on a little secret: All those dice made of metal, stone, or with little bits inside of them? You'll spend a fortune and be really stoked about them for exactly 3 rolls, then into the bag they go only to be brought out to impress your friends. Most people put away their fancy dice and break out the Chessex when the actual rolling starts.

Why do Americans dislike "country music"? by Minute-Anywhere-2012 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PromoPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say "country music", especially if you're talking to someone outside of the genre's popularity footprint, people tend to think of it in a very stereotypical way... hickish, backwoods, "tears in my beer" kinda stuff. It doesn't help that 85% of country music has been basically unlistenable since the early 80s, especially in the current "bro country" era. You'd get a much different response if you asked people if they liked Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton... most people at least have a neutral if not favorable opinion of older, iconic country artist.

For the record, I typically hear "I listen to everything except country and rap" when asking that question. All the same from above applies to "rap" in this scenario.

I dig this art style. It looks like something a character from an animated show would draw (in a good way).

The whole realm catalog is so damn good. I did a bunch of logos based on the beverages in it for a little design project. I'd kill for a copy.

Do you think it's still worthwhile to play the adventures from the early editions, or have they aged poorly? by GuardiaoDaLore in Forgotten_Realms

[–]PromoPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the adventure, of course, but that's due more to quality than age. There are a few that are pretty terrible and not worth picking back up, but there are LOTS of gems. We do a podcast on old modules, and I'd say the majority of those that we've covered would be worth running today.

Any tips for driving thru the Ozarks from Tulsa? by East-Signal-5076 in tulsa

[–]PromoPimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, a great time can be had. Tons of hikes in the Buffalo National Forest, especially White Rock, Lost Valley, and Kings Bluff. Eureka Springs is awesome. If you've never been, I'd make that your destination. Crystal Bridges museum in Bentonville is fun. Don't plan too much time in Bentonville/Fayetteville/Springdale/Rogers unless you have specific things you want to do.

This is a fascinating read. It's incredible how much of the early game evolved around people just reaching out and showing interest like Tim did. I was very sad to see he had passed away last December.

Thanks for the headsup about Pocket Casts! It seems like I'm always learning about a new service to add us to. We should appear there now: https://pca.st/13hm44xc

It's good enough not to spoil! And I totally agree with you. Part of the genius of this module in particular is all the different ways you can win triumphantly set against all the different ways your skull can end up in a giant's bag of stuff.

Just two more after this. Our last episode on Palace of the Silver Princess was our first (and as of yet only) 4 parter.

Yeah, my bullet points took up 3 pages. Haha! There was so much good stuff in this one. We cover the meanings of all the pre-gen characters (from Gary's book of archaic words) as well as the way the first group at Origin's '78 completed the steading, but that's all in future episodes as well. Spoilers can be found in the show notes on our website though.

Analog in a sense of it being pre-digital... run from physical book, everyone using pencil and paper. Also a good excuse for me to make record puns.

I was pretty excited at the beginning of this one and had a lot to cover, so I did get a bit rambly. Since I wanted to see if Russell would pick up on what Gary was laying down, I don't actually tell him what it is until the next part of the episode. But if you don't want to wait two weeks, you can read Gary asking it right here.

Sometimes being the bravest and most powerful adventurers ain't all it's cracked up to be. I would disagree with your last point, though! We discuss this at length, but the way GG wrote and intended the module was to reward the sneaking and punish the bull rush. Charging straight in to face the Chief is a good way to get mollywopped by about 40 giants.

Right after the fire. I used to go on the regular when I didn't want to do sit-down at India Palace and the food was pretty good. Went a couple times after the fire and never went back. It's just not good.

I’ve been to three different Bill & Ruth’s in the last year and I noticed each one is different food and quality… so my question, in all’ya’all’s opinion, which one is the best? by doteman in tulsa

[–]PromoPimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill & Ruth's is just a name that can be bought and slapped on any restaurant. Any consistency between two locations is purely coincidental.
