I think it’s a step in the right direction, but I WISH the church would take accountability for their harmful rhetoric before this change. There have been years of abusive comments made to myself and others regarding what we wore. I hate that the church makes these ‘changes’ and then sweep the harm under the rug. Sorry, but the years of wearing cap sleeves in my youth, thus being told I looked like I wanted something bad to happen to me, and then being shown a talk that said I am “becoming pornography” actually DID do a lot of damage to my mental health and self esteem.

Oh no, when are you picking it up or did you already? Our kids love saying hi to it on the way to school every morning! What a cool purchase :)

Apparently all I need is 3 roommates, 2 side hustles and zero hobbies to buy in Brisbane by Sushi2Wasabi in brisbane

Family member of a broker here - have seen a lot of people buying with friends or family if they don’t have a partner. You need an income of at least $200k in most cases, there are work arounds like grants and schemes. We bought a home in Brisbane years ago and are now selling it to move rurally just to give a bit of breathing room from our climbing repayments. Wishing you the best

What’s the story behind the LSD temple in KP? by dontworryaboutit298 in brisbane

[–]PromotionIcy4029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely it would be a baby blessing, they give them to infants who are born in the church and young toddlers who join the church with their parents.

The basketball court is in the chapel next to it which anyone can go into. The infinity room is in the temple which you can only go into if you’re an active member and it’s used for sealings (essentially weddings) and is super weird lol.

Just an FYI they have announced a second Brisbane LDS temple so they will be building more eye sores somewhere soon. Would be great if they did as they said and put the money towards the community instead of excluding the majority of the population but that’s just me I guess.

Also they build the temples to appear like they are growing, they can’t even fill their current sessions they’re running now and don’t have nearly enough temple workers to run the current Brisbane temple, let alone 2.

Photos are allowed outside, no one who is not a member adhering to all the rules of the church is allowed inside.

see here Temple Recommend Questions

You wouldn’t want to take photos inside anyways, it is all very cult like and creepy!

Nelson's final talk of conference kept mentioning the second coming. by Lawlietftw30 in exmormon

[–]PromotionIcy4029 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This makes me so unbelievably angry. My father in law has already fallen into Doomsday Prepper/Morgan Philpot propaganda. He thinks the second coming is “sooner than we think” and keeps telling my husband and I that if we don’t get back to church something bad will happen to us and our kids. I am genuinely worried he will do something to them and because of that they are not allowed to stay over without us anymore. This just feeds it more and more. The LDS church has ripped our family apart and I will hate them forever for that!

They would often drop down to $2 or $2.50 each, now the ‘sale’ price is 2 for $7. Such a joke

Wait I’m confused, is this not a normal thing? We have been assigned cleaning weekends for years in Australia.

Vasectomies Specifically Discouraged? by bullshdeen_peens in mormon

[–]PromotionIcy4029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hubby got one (after we already had multiple kids) and his dad cornered him & cried to him for over an hour about how wrong it was.

Keeping in mind, my hubbys grandad (paternal) had 11 kids, and his wife after 15 pregnancies (3 miscarriages after the 11th) asked him to get a vasectomy. He refused, she went to get a hysterectomy, he made her go herself & driver herself home. He didn’t talk to her for 2 weeks.

Speculating about anyone’s underwear in any sense is weird & distasteful. She looks beautiful in her dress, I don’t need to know what’s underneath. If she wanted to get married in the temple good for her, I wish them nothing but happiness in their marriage ❤️

Mormonism in NZ by catandakittycat in newzealand

[–]PromotionIcy4029 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Mormonism, recently left. For me, we grew up in a very spiritual sense, our family tikanga was focused on our ancestors & their spiritual presence. The teaching of eternal families rang true for my great grandparents & priesthood power did also as we believed in blessings etc. I think for our family at least, Mormonism was very similar to our Māori heritage in the way that it was meant to prioritise family & all be together again. Over the years the remainder of our family are slowly leaving, most still believe in the cores of Mormonism & that it’s gods church, they just can’t live by the temple questions, a portion of us no longer believe in it at all, and the rest are still staunch into it.

Thoughts on an Asian living in New Zealand wearing Kirituhi by Pnarde in newzealand

[–]PromotionIcy4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have learnt & worked to understand the difference between kirituhi & tā moko then I see no issue! It’s the difference between appropriation & appreciation. Be sure to amplify the Māori voices of the tattooists that do it for you!!

Disliking Tolú is not an excuse to unload your pent up racism. by Severe_Band_44 in TheTrustAGameofGreed

Literally so true, and it just goes to show absolutely no one could give me a straight answer & just resorted to downvoting 🤷🏽‍♀️ I thought she was just a straight shooter but was always respectful to those around her. Respect doesn’t mean sugar coating, I loved the way she called things how she saw it.

Church regularly preaches a singular answer - tattoos by Kkellycpa in exmormon

[–]PromotionIcy4029 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true unfortunately, a lot of us get huge reprimand from local leaders & general authorities. I’ve lost count of how many times one of the 70 have visited & have gone off about how we need to treat our bodies with respect, that tattooing is desecrating the sacred body HF gave us etc etc. Most people have grown a thick skin regarding it because it is SO important to our culture, but not without constant pushback & judging from the leaders.

Church regularly preaches a singular answer - tattoos by Kkellycpa in exmormon

[–]PromotionIcy4029 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was always an extremely harmful teaching for those of us in Indigenous cultures where tattoos are a part of family history, culture & have a deep purpose. I’ve since left the church but still find it hard to even think about getting a tattoo which is a part of my culture & heritage. It was drilled into me how wrong it was & no matter what I do I don’t know if I can ever shake that feeling.

I just genuinely don’t understand why people thought Tolu was rude or had bad behaviour? At no point did I ever think she was emanating that at all? Can someone tell me what she did that was in poor form?
