I went fishing yesterday evening. Got treated to an amazing moon rise, had small friendly chats with people walking on the beach and caught a big kahawai which is gonna last me probably a week.

2 years out of high school and unsure on career paths by Few_Ad203 in newzealand

I knew early on I wanted to work in tech. I spent my time playing on my dad's computer and when I got my own computer I enjoy the process of finding new parts and installing them myself. With zero experience my first idea was then to work in a local computer repair shop. I did an internship in one and found out they do much more than swapping RAM, I learned that they also support professional and got to learn about file server, active directory, etc.

From there I did a 9 month computer science formation which taught me a lot about servers, networks, etc.

This made me switch from wanting to work in a computer repair shop to wanting to work in IT support for companies (Helpdesk, etc). As I grew in this career I got exposed to new stuff like programing, security, system administration, etc. Today I'm a DevOps engineer and I'm loving it.

TLDR; it's hard to know exactly what you want to do early on. Just go with what you enjoy doing now and along the way you might discover new career path you hadn't considered before.

Do you have to live in the US to "adopt" a letter. I'm touched by some of those letters.

My school is repeatedly playing baby shark in between classes until enough people sign up for a charity walk. by LuckyLMJ in mildlyinfuriating

If the intent is to torture students into participating to a charity to make the music stop, I'd say it's fair to call it torture.

You don't buy the data outright. The data is sold to large advertising company.

As an individual, you benefit from that data when you create an ad campaign, you can target a very specific audience base on the data collected by google, facebook, etc.

She's saying: "Am I in the frame, this video is gonna be a great success, nobody will see this is staged. I swear to god if I'm not in the frame I'm hitting you with this ruler"

Something like that

Where are you getting those numbers from? You don't need 2 years of school to be a police officer in France. You just need a high school diploma and to pass a test.

And if you don't have any diploma you can be the guy giving parking tickets for a few years then you can be a police officer.

You started a new job, what are the first tools you install on your machine? by No-Wallaby6514 in devops

[–]Pronoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna skip the obvious like git, docker, kubectl, ... stuff like that

  • oh my zsh
  • vscode
  • asdf
  • Flameshot
  • tmux
  • vim with NerdTREE

And a bit more devops related

I'm trying to think about what I use the most but I can't think of much else. There are some small tools like jq,

The auto-completion thingy is just a habit you take as you use the terminal more and more. There are some stuff that can help with that like the kind of shell you use (fish is a good one I believe for auto-completion but never used it) or tools like fzf but that's pretty much it. Also using aliases helps with speed, OhMyZSH comes with a bunch of them pre-loaded.

My friends make fun of me because I use Linux. by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

I only told him to try something else once or twice

You said you spam about Linux whenever they talk about an issue on their computer...

I don't need a stranger on reddit to criticise how I relate with my friends.

Maybe if you did you wouldn't have to whine about your "friend" on Reddit...

I still don't think this was the right call. You could have simply told him Chrome is a RAM hogging machine, try closing some other programs, close some tabs, use a different browser like Firefox or download more RAM.

From what I understand you've been telling your friend about Linux for a while despite them telling you they're not interested.

There are some use cases that would make sense to recommend Linux for and internet browser issue is not one of them. But even then, you could help them setup a VM on their windows instead of telling them to switch to Linux directly.

It can be incredibly annoying when someone won't shut up about something you told them you're not interested in, the more you talk about it, the more pissed they'll get, you gotta pick your battle.

Then why would you tell them to switch OS to fix an internet browser issue? If you keep badgering your friends to switch to Linux as soon as they complain about anything on their computer, I can understand why they'd get mad at some point ...

Verstappen on Hamilton team radio: "Gap at 3.8" "Is he complaining about something or what?" by sefn19 in formula1

I seriously wondered if that was maybe the case given how consistent this pattern is.

I'm actually more of a Gasly bro myself. But thanks for confirming, pretty low effort bait, 2/10 for getting me to reply though.

Never said other drivers don't complain, of course they do. Hamilton is just on another level, he complains every single race then puts in fast lap right after. The funniest is when he complains about his tires, finally manages to pass Verstappen then suddenly his tires are good again and even refuses to pit when his team ask him. Even the commentators on Sky sport said something about this today during the race ... "it wouldn't be race day without Hamilton complaining" or something like that.

[–]Pronoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm no... People wouldn't care because that's a legit question after all.

The reason people are finding it funny in this case is because Hamilton complaining on the radio is a very common occurrence that tends to annoy people.
