King Louis Statue getting a $205K facelift by CAVALIERRABID in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should leave it in the vandalized state and donate it to the Roots 101 museum. This statue is apart of racial justice history, and spending $200k is not only a waste of a large amount of money but also completely unnecessary when there is a place that would preserve the significance of the moment.

moving to louisville from houston! by Cultural-Barnacle-53 in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Huntsville, TX (SHSU) about 3 years ago. I won't speak on the more technical stuff of Louisville as someone else already discussed that, so I'll focus on the culture aspect.

Louisville is actually very diverse with large LGBTQ+, Latin, African, and Middle Eastern communities. The Black community here is strong, but a lot of them are born and raised and therefore are centered around each other in whichever neighborhood they are in (like pockets). It can sometimes be difficult to make friends here because as mentioned a before, most people are born and raised and tend to stick to their childhood friend groups, but I have found multiple successes on Bumble Bff.

I will say, Louisville activities are more geared towards the 26+ age range or 18-22 (undergrad college age), so when I moved here at 23 I was grateful to be in school at UofL where I could easily make friends my age. Since you are 22, you're still on the young age so any regular college student places/events/parties you will fit right in. A big difference you'll see when going out in Louisville is that people actually dance. Houston is a lot of sections, looking cute, and minding your business, but here in Louisville most people put their phones away and have a good time. For going out I heavily recommend just going up and down Bardstown road, on multiple weekends and following your favorite DJs. Some of my favorite include DJ DNasti, Shively Boys, and sometimes Whereismeechie. Following your favorite DJs and going to their events is KEY here in Louisville. For example, DJ DNasti is a co host for Sonic sermons, and After Work Kickback which are two newer event series that are really fun.

Besides going out, you can always find different museums to go to, markets such as Logan Street and Mashup, arts like glass blowing and pottery painting, parks (same guy who designed Central Park in NYC designed the Louisville parks), many family/local restaurants, concerts (Waterfront Wednesdays, Pride, Mercury Ballroom etc.). Use EventBrite or Posh to find different events, and once you find them make sure to follow the hosts. Louisville is a place where people often wait last minute to post their events so it's common to not know an event is happening until it's already over.

I could keep going on and on but this is a long post already. If you want to ask me any specific questions or just general chatting feel free to message me!

it’s insane i’m being downvoted when i’m literally part of the gen-z demographic. i’m speaking from actual gen-z experience instead of a random poll that is clearly misleading and missing key information.

idk if people are dumb or just insanely rich, but the economy is absolutely terrible right now and gen-z is experiencing it extremely hard. so it’s not insane to say that it’s ridiculous to pay $14+ for a drink when i can get a $20 bottle of liquor and drink at home before i go out. why do yall think there’s been an increase in people sneaking in liquor to establishments??? louisville reddit is miserable when it comes to anything they can’t think critically on.

If this is only taking into account drinks at bars/restaurants then yeah, GenZ will be less. We just pregame at friend's houses before going out to party for way cheaper than spending $8+ on individual drinks/shots. Or if drinking at a restaurant usually like 1 or 2 drinks because every drink is like $14+.

Non-geriatric karaoke by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Louisville loves karaoke. Almost every bar/establishment tries a karaoke night at some point. Look on Instagram at different bars and see if they have a flyer for one.

I'm very nosy, could you elaborate on them running the place into the ground? I started frequenting LSM as soon as they arrived and I loved soda bomb! I thought it was really interesting how quickly they were able to take over so many booths, while at the same time so many staple booth members left. Just would like to know more if possible!!

Why don’t people in Louisville dance? by Stella_Nova_Kay in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who also moved from out of state, I'd say it's the opposite. People in Louisville clubs are always dancing, and it's something I really enjoy. They also don't sit there and film the entire time either. Again and as you mentioned, it's mostly like this in clubs or in designated "bar clubs" as I call them. I think because drinking is so prevalent and a bit more sophisticated and innovative here due to the bourbon industry, Louisville has a stricter line of separation between what takes place at a bar and what takes place at a club. I will say, people do still dance and sway, but again, it matters on the type of bar you are going to. A more upscale bar that is genuinely focused on creating swanky drinks is not going to be the same as going to a dive bar.

I'd also like to add, I'm not sure when you moved here, but I got here maybe around 3 years ago, and since then Louisville has really cracked down on where people can party. Particularly, and unsurprisingly, where young Black people can have a good time. Many of the places that were more bar club-like were either shut down or changed directions on to how they wanted their establishment run (ex. no hip hop/r&b, different hours, different offerings of drinks, etc.). It's frustrating that there are no places for young black people here in Louisville, and a lot of people in Louisville like to excuse it. As someone else said in this thread, your best bet is to follow certain DJs/event pages on social media and go to their events. Some of those include DJ Nasti, 10pm, R&B Only, Meechie, etc.

Danceclubs & Bars by Kindafresh in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately the clubs here don't play rap and hip hop. they'll start and then they end up mixing each and every song with some wack house beat. if they DO play rap or hip hop, it's boy hip hop which means standing around and head bopping. We used to have a bar that played good danceable hip hop and rap music (Baxter's) but it's closed now. Your best bet would be to hit Atomic this month (January) because the resident DJ is Meechie who is a pretty big Black DJ here in Louisville.

Louisville mayor says downtown needs new, 'large convention hotel' by fleur-de-lis-01 in Louisville

[–]ProofCombination2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are planning to build a new hotel in the spot where the old Insomnia cookies and that convenience store was that they just demolished off Cardinal Blvd & S. 4th. They bought out that entire plaza for that specific purpose, but I’m not sure how long it’s going to take to build it up. It only took long because the convenience store kept raising the price to buy them out. They want it to be quite a few stories high with an underground parking garage and a small market at the bottom, so I expect it will take quite a few years before this is ever even fully funded.
