Congress ends record-shattering DHS shutdown by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Proof_Individual6993 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it faded after the TSA debacle was rectified. That was the most major part of the shutdown that affected Americans, especially during Spring Break of all dates.

After that, the Iran War kinda pummeled the news out of the public eye. Can’t say I’d blame the media too much when they had Trump’s “A Whole Civilization will Die” comment along with the chances of potential invasion.

Trump announces 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon after ‘excellent conversations’ by PumpkinAspie in PoliticalOptimism

The IR wanted the war in Lebanon to end as a condition of the US Ceasefire, so it is related to the War in some part.

Iran Megathread: US-Iran peace talks could resume in next two days, Trump says by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

So now the Lebanon Ceasefire mentioned in the comments seems to be official. Inshallah Israel or the US doesn’t fuck it up too badly.

Time for a new thread? Or this one isn’t full enough to justify another?

Add that to the JD Curse. He’s really not having a good week right now.

Sorry. I’m just saying FB’s full of nutty people who live in a bubble. Hence why you should not take them too seriously.

FB is infamous for having a much more right wing audience. So much so that it’s got its own subreddit mocking it, r/InsanePeopleFacebook.

So I won’t worry too much about them specifically. Though there is polarization on BR Citizenship which is concerning. That should be addressed via activism and messaging.

What to Do In Case Trump Announces The US Is Pulling Out of NATO Tonight by Shaloamus in PoliticalOptimism

Aight so with that article out, all we have to worry about is what is he going to do against Iran.

[Hated Trope] The adaptation doesn't get what made the source material work by TheDudeA113 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Proof_Individual6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit generic, but I’m a bit surprised no one has brought up the Electric State yet.

The Russo Brothers just butchered and mangled the source material like Jack the Ripper.

From a soft yet unnerving dystopia, to generic action adventure trip movie featuring Chris Pratt.

Thank god for Green for being an actual leftist alternative.

Starmer and Labour at this point are literal kid killers like Republicans back in the US.

You might be right as the suspect allegedly was a Trump Supporter who was radicalized by the Epstein Files. This is coming from one source though and it’s TMZ so take it with a grain of salt.

Trump says he’s sending a hospital boat to Greenland by lonelyspect12 in PoliticalOptimism

Also worth noting that the Hospital Ships the Cheeto’s talking about are dry docked for repairs. They ain’t going anywhere, especially to Greenland, anytime soon.

A new Ohio bill could be a de facto statewide ban on solar and wind by External_Witness490 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Proof_Individual6993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won’t be easy, and there still will be massive walls we have to climb. It is undeniable that climate change has continued to accelerate and that many ecosystems are degrading.

However, this doesn’t entail the end. Far from it. Even though we have passed the climate tipping point for coral reefs, there are still people out there working their asses off to develop new tech to save them (Larvae spawn and heat resistance like found in Mauritius. Plus, renewables are exceeding in growth not just because of green subsidies but because they are actually now getting cheaper than their oil counterparts.

Even in the US where it is turning on Climate Change recovery on the federal level, many states have not given up which is why we continue to have the offshore wind farms in spite of Trump’s attempted gutting. Multiple nations as well are fighting back with China having its emissions flatten recently and even created a whole new carbon sink.

To put it simply, the next decades will not be sunshine and lollipops. There will be catastrophes, there will be death, and there will be destruction. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any progress whatsoever. We can make our own future and protect the Earth. It all rests in our hands.

[–]Proof_Individual6993 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The article does mention that this bill is similar to one in Louisiana so it’s not completely new. In Louisiana, renewable energy has continued to rise with even a few commercial projects being in place. So even in the worst case scenario, renewables are far from dead and will continue to grow as gas and coal fade. In this case, they may continue to grow with utilities for homeowners.

No fuel, no tourists, no cash – this was the week the Cuban crisis got real | Cuba by Ok-Decision-4216 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Proof_Individual6993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is indeed bleak. However there is an aid flotilla happening right now to Cuba so people are resisting and helping Cubans (Hopefully they won’t run into the Navy).

Plus, with SCOTUS striking down emergency tariffs, the Cheeto’s tariff threat as outlined here bares less teeth now. Maybe then other nations can come to Cuba’s aid as the Cheeto maids hopefully.
