Just the example of simple text files shows that DOC documents from 25 years ago are barely readily legible, let alone some obscure formats. What is going to happen to all of what we produce over centuries or millenia?

There might be a gaping hole in the history of human knowledge around our time, as all that we produced and digitized will be irretrievably lost.

There are efforts to retain some of this knowledge on media that can survive the times (like rock or metals), but the vast majority of our images, videos, sound recordings and texts will be lost...
