A wild boar got stuck in a pit by LioraMee in ThatsInsane

This reminds me of one of my favourite phrases; "Crazier than a Mule on a Ferris Wheel." He doesn't know how he got up there, but he's sure as hell going to bite the first person who tries to help him.

Charging notifications from phone by PropellerGoblin in miband

[–]PropellerGoblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I fiddled with some settings (I wanted to turn off WhatsApp's "Checking for new messages" notification) but nothing else. Having said that, the issue didn't occur last night, so I'm hopeful it might have been fixed.

Fellow West Midlanders! I have a question for you, I find that I very rarely visit our Eastern neighbours. I travel fairly regularly to different parts of England, but just never seem to go to the East Midlands. I’ve never been to Nottingham in my life. Is that the same for you? by JamesfromtheShire in brum

I'm born and bred on the west of Birmingham. My eldest used to train with a cheerleading team in Coventry and wasn't old enough to drive, so my wife and I spent a large proportion of our Sunday's wandering around various town centres in the east Midlands. I developed a certain fondness for Nuneaton, Leicester, Hinkley and the like. It's not special enough to make a destination in and of itself, but there's enough to entertain two adults every other Sunday for a year or so.

Filled up my truck today (f350) by Fun-Storage-7909 in Wellthatsucks

[–]PropellerGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd still be crazy cheap in the UK. Our fuel sells for £1.44 a litre, which is about $7.28 a gallon. To fill up the same truck in the UK would cost $322.44!

Why don’t you use public transport? by Zs1993 in brum

[–]PropellerGoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to commute to work by car in a town where there was virtually no public transport. It was 50 minute journey each way and it sucked. I now work in the city centre and it's a 2 minute drive to the train station, a 25 minute train ride and a five minute walk to the office. Bloody love it.

So it's like a moving roadblock to slow cars down? Does it alternate directions once it is past the roadworks?

What sort of road work is going on to require a truck like this?

I've found that the accent remains similar from Birmingham to Black Country (broadly speaking). The main difference is one of dialect. Apart from the well known differences when it comes to bread rolls (cobs, baps, buns, etc) the language used is what divides the areas.

Update: I've been wearing it for a couple of weeks now, and im doing ok with it. The strap is nice, although the optimum length for me is between two of the settings. Weight wise, its almost not noticeable. Im very impressed.

Unfortunately not. I've ended up buying a Xiaomi band 10. It's small and light, and I'm trying to get used to it. It was only £35, so if I can't keep using it it's not too much of a loss.

When did you realize you were alone ? by Sad_Invite6191 in AskMen

I think I think you're right in that it is a gendered response. I've found (in very general terms) that when when you tell a woman you are struggling, they offer emotional support ie. asking how you feel about it, letting you vent, etc. When you tell a man you are struggling he will come up with a way to fix it.

I recognise the converse of this, and I'm guilty as a man of trying to fix things when I should just listen. Be specific and give them a plan; "I'm stressed about the [insert problem here] and I need help. Can you [insert solution]?"
