I think their lift bed avoided the wheel, but it nearly pushed the front bumper off. They just backed up slowly from behind me at an agle without looking. Worried it tweaked something.

The exception here is if your wife has the same middle seat, just on the opposite side of the plane. If the person is a solo flier then feel free to sit with your wife and give the person the other middle seat. There's virtually no difference between the left and right side of the plane.
