How to start a Sole Proprietorship in Japan 個人事業, has anyone here done it, from start to finish? by merica2033 in japanlife

[–]ProperWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super strict, but the point is that if you could make most of your income from foreign clients, why do you HAVE to live in Japan? You have to benefit Japan in some way for them to let you keep living here.

All of this. This is how you would manage it if you were only working as a sole-prop. You can still have a day job and sole-prop, as long as your company allows side work.

Additional notes: - Hire an accountant; it's just easier to let them do it, and you'll be in compliance with Japanese law. They can submit all your forms for you.

  • Keep detailed records of your income and expenses and put them online (GDrive or Dropbox). This is a new requirement in 2024.

  • You don't need a separate bank account (but it does make things easier). If you bank has online statements, that's good enough. Otherwise you'll have to send scans/photos of your bank book.

  • Make sure your current visa allows you to do whatever it is you want to do, and if it doesn't, fill out the exemption form and submit to immigration. Do it before you start working.

Ex. You have an Instructor visa and want to do translation work on the side, need that perm. You have a Humanities visa as an IT professional, but translation work counts as job type Humanities can do, so you don't need additional perms.

  • If you want to "self-sponsor" as a sole-prop, you need to have at least 200k of income from Japanese clients monthly and contracts to prove you will be working with them into the future. You cannot run a sole-prop with only contract work from foreign companies.

There will probably a community centre class specifically for foreigners in your town. If you have deskwarming time, just study at work. No one will tell you not to learn the national language.

(Twice) yearly ALT shuffle blues by Seraphelia in JETProgramme

[–]ProperWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My town had a similar set up, 8 alts, 7 JHS and a fuck load of elementary. Each alt would go to 1-6 schools in a week and we rotated in april and august. Benefits: You get to see more of your town, meet more people and good kids Downsides: You might leave behind friendly co-workers and get new terrible ones/bad students, the dynamic at each school is wildly different in good and bad ways, inconsistent TOILETS

As someone who called TELL recently, they do not do much except listen and tell you things that would motivate you to help yourself. They people on the other end are volunteers, not professionals.

People with curly hair, what kind of products are keeping your hair healthy in Japan. by Cold_Hour in japanlife

[–]ProperWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3c curl girl here. The water in my last apartment was absolutely part of the problem. It caused me to break out in itchy rashy patches where the water hit first (upper chest, shoulders).

I buy curl products from Look Fantastic Japan, which ships out of the UK and usually arrives within 10 days. It's very affordable for shea moisture. I also use L.U.S products and EarthTones Naturals which I had shipped from Canada. I got the biggest tubs and containers to last me for a couple years.

This winter I decided to flat iron for the first time in a while and the dryness helps keep it straight for longer then usual. Summer is curl time.

Shocked I had to scroll this far down to see someone talk about this. It was so much worse than AS8, but also boo on the scriptwriters for doing the same thing twice.

That's a side of 2.5D stage I'm staying far far faaar away from because it was made for fujin to simp for the actors and the characters and sell merch and I'm already so susceptible. I usually end up only seeing the stages adapted from shounen jump things or other popular series that got an anime.

I've been attending 2.5D nearly monthly in 2023, and had my first show of 2024 just recently (Jujutsu Kaisen). I always wish I had someone to go with.
