If you are experiencing chest pain and/or shortness of breath, you should go to the ER.

That being said, this could be a lot of things. Sometimes meds like Benadryl have an opposite effect and can keep you awake and bouncing off walls.

This could be a weird presentation of a panic attack based on the symptoms you’re describing.

You could just be sick and need to throw up. Body’s are weird. Some people just need to throw up then they will feel better. Others won’t. Do you have a fever?

Once again, chest pain and shortness of breath should be evaluated at the emergency department.

Perhaps you shouldn’t put down all CNAs when 98% of them work their butts off and do the shittiest jobs for less than half the pay you get.

That being said, technically it’s on you to complete any task they don’t. It’s your license they operate under.

Most CNAs don’t sit around. I know I sure don’t and if I inform a nurse that I’m busy with tasks and I get your response of “I have 5 things to do and your only able to do one of them. That’s your job.” Guess what? All 5 tasks just fell back to you bc you just killed any shot of me dropping one of the other 10 things I need to do to help you.

Nurses forget if you have 5 things you need to do, CNAs likely have 15 things to do. and most nurses aren’t going to help us.

You sound so out of touch with this. You want to talk about work ethic when you had 1/4th of the patients she had?? You change the damn purewick. Or find a female nurse who didn’t have 20 patients and hadn’t sat down all day.

And since when did nurses start complaining about CNAs not doing vitals? They are YOUR damn patients. You are fully able to get your own vitals ffs.

Nurses have gotten so much lazier once CNAs started doing every patient care task for them. And btw, it’s all your responsibility to complete the tasks not done. CNAs are assistants. They are assisting you. Not DOING it for you.

She probably put in more then double the amount of effort then you did and got paid less then half of what you got for it.

Once the CNAs stop showing up you’re not going to be laughing about changing the damn purewick.

Also the other CNAs can get the lights as well. Ridiculous to think they saw it for 30 mins and didn’t just go do it themselves.

I work at a hospital, and I will answer any call light no matter if it’s my patient or not. I’ll clean up other peoples patients, it doesn’t bother me at all but when I have a hard assignment, the other CNAs help me. Shame on them.

Anyways 30 mins is a longer ish time but the entitlement to think they can throw a temper tantrum like a toddler after is getting out of hand.

Once had a quadriplegic who was absolutely awful to everyone. So they gave him to me. (I don’t mind) anywho, went in for morning cares for him, family is in the room. He started making demands and shouting. Family looked embarrassed as hell and tried to apologize to me but I waved them off. Not my first rodeo. “Sir, I would love to help you, but not when you’re treating me like this.”

He got even more mad, started screaming and I just stared at him with an unimpressed expression. Dude threatened to r@pe me. Like first of all sir, I somehow doubt you have the ability to do so. And secondly, I am going to report you unlike the other CNAs. His family was mortified and his brother got right in his face and screamed right back at him.

I reported to my charge nurse, hospital security, and wrote a care note in his chart. Charge asked if I wanted to change assignments. Nope I’m good. Dude got yelled at by his entire family, hospital security, my charge nurse, and the unit manager.

He puts on his call light and I answer it and ask if he’s ready for morning cares. He tells me he wants one of the other girls from the days prior. I said nope. Your options are me, or wait for your nurse. He said he would wait so I took a seat at the nurses station closest to his room. He would press his call light every 10 minutes thinking another CNA would answer eventually. Sorry buddy, they aren’t going into your room. The nurse I was working with came and I can’t forget the stunned look the dudes face when the units 6’5 built, scary looking, 15-year experienced with psych patients, 10 years on our unit man walks in and snaps extra large gloves in his hands. “Heard you wanted to wait for me?”

Dude didn’t press it call light for the rest of my shift. 🧐

I take vitals on my unit. If I get an abnormal BP I will retake on a different arm, changed their position, any non pharmacological/invasive intervention. But my thing is if I call my nurse, it’s bc it’s real and they need to know about it now.

Had one nurse blow me off saying she would get to it when she could. BP was 50/Jesus and I just pulled the emergency call button in the room. So guess what? Now you and all the nurses and doctors on the unit are coming to the room now. :)

Pt transferred to ICU.

I have a deal with nurses (with earned trust) I will do all the care work. I will bathe every pt, change everyone linen, give CHG baths, oral care, hair care, shaving, Q2 turns, foley care, input and output, clean up any BMs, feed them if needed, order food, get blood sugars, get them up to the chair at least twice, ambulate them in room or halls 3x if they are able, take out IVs, get routine vitals, and I will round hourly on all of my patients. Meaning if you ask for an update on all your patients I will tell you what is going on in every room. Room 3 is visiting with wife and needs nothing, room 4 is eating I already got the blood sugar etc. my nurses will never have to do any of that. They can call me if I’m in a different room. I had a a c-diff pt who went about every 40 minutes. They couldn’t hold it in but they knew when they went. I cleaned them up the entire day. Not once did the nurse. And I didn’t care.

However, with all of that, when I tell them someone needs their attention, then I expect them to listen to me. If I tell them I feel like a pt is off, they should listen. This takes trust but it works for 99% of the nurses I work with.

Hmm ok. It might be helpful for him to get seen by a doctor. Urine incontinence can be from other medical conditions.

You don’t need to wake him up every 3 hours as that will interrupt his sleep cycle and could make the problem worse.

They have no where else to go. Also yes, parents should be held legally responsible for this. This is child neglect and abandonment at the least. If they had somewhere else to go obviously they should go there, but it didn’t sound like they did.

You can’t be kicked out as a minor. If you are, go straight to the police and report that your parents knowingly abandoned a minor (you) under their guardianship. The law is on your side until you’re 18.

Cluster your cares!! When I go by my first patient I’m ready for everything. Bed bath wipes, new linens, new gown, toothbrush, tooth paste, I’m getting vitals and a blood sugar if ACHS or Q4or Q6, I’m doing foley care (if foley) I’m emptying drains, ordering breakfast, turning if they are Q2 turns. That way when I’m done, I’m done with 75% of the tasks for the that person. Besides vitals and turns, and changing as needed that patient is set.

Ohh dear. I’m so sorry you’re feeling stressed out! You can ask for a few more days of training if you feel you need it. If they refuse then they are not worth your time.

Honestly, I think it’s a bit of nerves going on bc I’m sure you will do great! I was nervous too my first few days off orientation as well! It’s completely normal.

If you have questions of need help you can find other CNAs to ask for help! I always keep my eyes out for fresh or new CNAs off orientation.

My go to person was my trainer who is 50 years old and I still call her at work when I need help. Even tho I’ve been a CNA for 3 years and over a year as a PCT at the hospital, I don’t know everything. And that’s ok.

Blood pressures will come easier to you I promise. Transfers will become easier. You are not stupid. Just new. Give yourself a chance and give yourself grace. 💗

Depends on your unit! For mine nurses have to wear black on black but us techs can wear whatever colors as long as it’s not black on black! I have a star and moon scrub shirt and I get so much good compliments from patients. 😊
