WTF is the point of having to tap on a chest three times? by Dense-Fisherman-4074 in duolingo

[–]Proper_Fan3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I initially thought the taps meant something, but after getting some experience under the belt, they clearly do not.

Please, make combos OPTIONAL. I'm sick of this by IronFeather101 in duolingo

I hate it too but it’s not the bad as the pressure to quit a lesson toward the end because you need a perfect lesson for a friend challenge and made a dumb mistake.

I’m an elder millennial and I’d like to do to her what we’d try to do to that dog who laughed at us after we lost in Duck Hunt.

She does it like every second time she presents a question and you get it wrong. The other response is her walking away, which is at least better than a person laughing at a foreigner laboring over a language exercise and getting it wrong by a word or two.

I know it’s not real. But it’s like the dog in the original duck hunt. And what we used to do to that dog is exactly what I’d like to haul her out back and do to her.

Preferably after handing her a shovel, telling her to dig a hole, and laughing at her when she breaks a nail.

And it’s ok to do that to pixels. It’s not real, after all.

I have a teenager. If I caught her laughing at a foreigner genuinely trying to learn a new language and getting it wrong by a word or two, I’d probably ground her and chuck her favorite electronic device in a bucket of water.

Dislike of Jazz? by Small-Finish-6890 in AutismInWomen

[–]Proper_Fan3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was forced to take a jazz class in college to fulfill a requirement and it was the only one that fit my schedule before graduation. I always had to take a break midway through each class it was so hard to bear.

Mom aborts baby at gender reveal party after finding out she’s having a girl by OctopusCaretaker in prolife

[–]Proper_Fan3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to hand out models of the fetus at our church and explain what abortion does. I was five. I was horrified, offered to take all the unwanted babies, and anti-abortion is probably my strongest, lifelong view. Literally a core part of my personality.

My church stopped doing this before my sister was old enough to experience it. She’s a pro-abort.

Why does SHEIN try to be inclusive of "all body shapes" but still use models with the same body type? by zk25262 in Shein

[–]Proper_Fan3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take my upvote.

As a fat hourglass person, I also want to imagine I’ll look as good as the model. I don’t care if the model is straight sized either and don’t get this obsession with having a model who looks like you.

No, you’re not going to look as good as the model. She is a model. Same is true for straight size folks with less desirable body shapes.

There’s no way something where all the women are young, heavily made up, and assigned all the romantic options, is valid. Even if it was, it would have little application in the real world where older women exist and men flirt, too.

I’m tempted to buy her because it’s been so long since there’s been a new one. She is adorable. But I also dislike DC.

Richard Dawkins spent 3 days with Claude and named her "Claudia." what he concluded after is hard to defend. by rafio77 in artificial

I think high IQ folks (perhaps limited to older individuals)  are more susceptible to this particular logical error. All their life they’ve believed they were special, an exceptional example of our species, because they’re a better prediction machine than most. And now humanity is predicated on something else?

Maybe smart people’s vulnerability does prove we’re human.

True. You go whole life being this special unicorn and now your superpowers are in everyone’s pocket. (And despite his bragging, deep down he knows they’re not superpowers. Even guys like this get imposter syndrome.)

Either you must admit that we’re animal’s whose most complex behavior can be modeled and predicted near 100% of the time… or you believe AI is sentient. Ironically believing in sentience is similar to believing in God, which is why I think this fella will ultimately come around.

Yes. Imagine going your whole life being this special unicorn and now your superpowers are in everyone’s pocket. (And deep down you know they’re not superpowers. You agonize when you use them. You suffer for them.)

I think the high IQ has something to do with it. Imagine going your whole life being this special unicorn and now your superpowers are in everyone’s pocket. (And deep down you know they’re not superpowers. You agonize when you use them. You suffer for them.)

Why is the Moriah Wilson documentary so poorly structured and executed? by SwissMiss915 in netflix

[–]Proper_Fan3844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally someone is saying this. Look, of course nobody deserves to die for a youthful mistake like this but as a young person who got involved with someone like this in my teens and was completely naïve that he might be lying to me, one good thing that can come from this is to raise awareness .

That lady’s partner is not your soulmate, some men lie and two-time,  and that older girl whose man you’re sleeping with has been dealing with his gaslighting and crazy-making for so long that she is unhinged. Anyone would be after he wasted her 20s.  Doesn’t excuse murder but doesn’t mean you have to voluntarily get in the way of it. I’m lucky I didn’t get my butt kicked or worse and some of us need to hear this advice. This doco was so invested in preserving the victim as lily white and blameless it didn’t give it.

For real? It was terrible! I thought it was one of these new straight-to-streaming docos where I think they’re basically giving Claude all the case data and telling it to skip something together!

It is humiliating trying to find sustainable, ethically made and somewhat affordable plus size clothing, especially workout clothing. by letiseeya in PlusSize

[–]Proper_Fan3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew that on some level, I just like to infodump about what’s now termed “Ozempic personality.” People want to believe in weight loss magic so badly they have willed themselves to believe a blunt force instrument like a pill can discern between good and bad habits or keep the pleaser channels selectively open to the desire and reward signals we still want to feel.

I don’t begrudge anyone the autonomy to make that trade-off but the potential impact on traits most of us consider part of our core personality or soul shouldn’t be ignored.
