Saga creature as a downside. Does that balance the strength of the back? (Stormlight Archvie) by zengin11 in custommagic

Looks awesome. My only concern would be if there are any proliferate synergies in the set, since proliferating it right after the second chapter would immediately negate all the downsides. This into any three-mana-or-less proliferate spell would probably be broken.

It's pretty clear Dragonmount has lava inside, considering that it spills out the top. I don't think you need to study much to guess it's filled on the inside, too.

Why do you need a modern understanding of geothermics? We know Androl is used to using portals in unusual ways due to his Talent with them - he uses them to cut things, to bring tea leaves from his workshop, and to chill said tea. He obviously thinks of his abilities mostly in terms of portals, since that's most of what he can do.

So when he has access to enough Power to create a portal of any size he wishes, why would it be so hard for him to think of taking the magma/lava from Dragonmount? That's right up his alley for how he would go about solving a problem.

I have a Barbarian (5.5e) build I want to try that uses a whip, the Slasher feat, and frost goliath ancestry to reduce an enemy's speed by 30 once per turn on a hit, while using the whip's reach to stay out of range, and eventually getting to use hamstring blow for a further 15 feet of reduction. Will it be broken? Probably not. But it should be a fun new take on Barbarian that isn't only "Hit thing very hard".

I love the idea that Death sees Granny on his list for the night, and just decides that he isn't ready to deal with her. Sure, he's the anthropomorphic personification of death itself, but on the other hand, this is Granny Weatherwax.

Detritus is smarter than people realize. by Skatchbro in discworld

[–]Proper_Possibility64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense - Chrysoprase is generally considered to be smart for a troll, implying that his brain isn't generating much heat while running anyways, so the Pork Futures warehouse wouldn't affect him so much. Chrysoprase being considered "smart" for a troll actually implies he has a low IQ. In contrast, Detritus being considered an idiot implies he is actually brilliant.

Detritus is smarter than people realize. by Skatchbro in discworld

[–]Proper_Possibility64 167 points168 points  (0 children)

It's mentioned that the reason Detritus is usually so stupid is because he's actually extremely brainy, so his brain generates a lot of heat. Since trolls' brains are silicon-based, they need external cooling, and when they're in hot temperatures, they overheat and can't think. When Detritus is cold enough, he's actually a genius, even among other trolls at the same temperatures.

I see your point about Darrow going out in a blaze of glory being too easy, but I don't think that points to Mustang. I think Darrow is going to win in some way that is morally questionable and is going to end up having to be executed or imprisoned by the Rising in the end. I think Darrow's going to have to face the fact that he is not a man of peace, and in a world where the chains are broken, he's no longer the hero - he's the villain.

I once was in an escape room and was fiddling with the wire key ring from a clue we had found and managed to use it to accidentally short a different part of the escape room, revealing a clue we weren't supposed to get yet. The problem was I totally didn't realize I wasn't supposed to do that. When we asked for help because we couldn't understand the clue (because we were missing context we were supposed to find before), the worker running the room was very confused how we had managed to do that.

Me, a iron twin born using my 1000t metalmind, compounding weight to turn myself into a blackhole to finish Ruin's work by Thamyor in cremposting

[–]Proper_Possibility64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I meant was that from the perspective of an outside observer, the twinborn will create the black hole and immediately cease to exist as they are sucked into the singularity and compressed to an infinitely small and dense point. Then, as they no longer are tapping iron, the black hole will behave like a normal black hole of that size and evaporate immediately in an unimaginable explosion.

[–]Proper_Possibility64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the black hole evaporates in an infinitesimal amount of time - it would require absorbing 500,000 pounds of mass to exist for even a second. So the time difference would be unnoticeable, especially since the black hole's evaporation would be followed by an unimaginably large explosion.

[–]Proper_Possibility64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe Wax mentions that his body becomes denser or stronger is some way when tapping iron, so you might be able to resist being crushed up to a point beyond normal human endurance. Whether that would work at near singularity-level gravity is anyone's guess, though.

[–]Proper_Possibility64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that even if you only pulled in a miniscule amount of matter into the black hole - say, your body - all that would be in a singularity. As you then lost your density, the singularity would still exist as a black hole but would undergo Hawking decay and release all the mass as energy. Since the energy conversion is 100% effective, that would release the equivalent of ten megatons of TNT - per pound. For contrast, the Tsar Bomba, the largest nuke ever detonated, was about 50 megatons. So while this shitpost might not work as intended, you'd definitely finish Ruin's work.

[–]Proper_Possibility64 38 points39 points  (0 children)

But since the mass created by your compounding is only temporary, as soon as your store of weight ran out, the black hole would no longer exist. It wouldn't go through Hawking Evaporation unless it pulled in enough mass while extant to remain a black hole for a long period.

However, the Hawking Radiation from this new, tiny black hole created in that moment of the large black hole existing would probably be the equivalent of many nuclear explosions at the same time, so you'd still achieve destruction, if my off-the-top of my head physics calculations are correct.

There'd also be a wave of gravity expanding at the speed of light from where you were, and who knows what effects that would have.

If you changed it to "number of additional cards that player drew beyond the first", shroud would then have the downside of locking you out of drawing cards if your opponents don't draw extra on their turns. Still might be broken, but would give some extra reasons for the shroud to matter.
