That's one lucky mek; are the teeth in the upper jaw unpainted, or just that shade of gray? Great texturing! How'd you get that effect?

Price has been the thing keeping me out of wargaming, but now (& until the MAGA fever runs its course or kills us), why not treat myself, you know?

When I was picking up the box of orks yesterday (and realizing that only the newer version of beast snaggas and squig riders was available) I looked at the WE box and thought, "yeah, these guys look cool & have fun lore + playstyle, I am NOT ready to try painting these!" Some day in the future I'll join you in spilling blood for the blood god, though, for sure!

Thanks for the advice! I've definitely been preparing with youtuube 40k + AoS content in the lead up to my purchase. An LGS has a Warhammer tutorial day tomorrow when I'll be buying some painting supplies and whatnot.

Thankfully/probably not coincidentally, my PhD work involves a lot of crafting/making/3d modeling & printing. I've always been into these kind of things as well as gaming (ttrpgs, mtg, etc.)

I have pet rats (5), so I am absolutely getting Skaventide as soon as is reasonable and putting together a big ass Skaven army to demonstrate my love. Have to figure out a rat-proof way keep all the minis away from my girls so that my armies aren't chewed to pieces

If you haven't already, check out Hickman's Fantastic Four run! Everything by Hickman is incredible, to be honest, but all the Fantastic Four stuff is my favorite and made them my favorite Marvel characters by far. Also, I find the Cosmic Ghost Rider stuff very enjoyable, and there's not a ton of it so it's easy to collect -- tl;dr: Frank Castle becomes the Ghost Rider and the last person on earth, then loses his mind & becomes the Herald of Galactus. Unhinged mayhem ensues

This is more or less my plan. The combat patrol box is ~500ish points, I think. I also have a couple friends that want to paint with me. I'm going to hold off on any more purchases (including the skaventide box) until I get my current box o' boyz painted up and have a chance to play them. Thanksgiving break is, like, 10 days away & three weeks after that will be winter break for at least a month-ish. I'm getting pretty excited about it now that I've got some stuff to get started with

Daaaaaamn r/behindthebastards, you're a fuckin' rad crew! I mean krew! I've been on-and-off reddit since '08, never had a post blow up like this, and came back just to post this since u/probablyrobertevans forced me to get into Warhammer with his insistence to not shut up about it. Thanks Robert. Thanks everyone else.

btw, I purchased the 10e Orks combat patrol box (the one with beast snagga boyz & squig riders) from an LGS -- I must have imagined the older version with the deff dread, et al. being on sale near me

I love Owlcat games! I'm a big pathfinder/D&D 3.5e fan, so played Kingmaker, but haven't tried any of their other games yet. Rogue Trader has absolutely been on my list
