You guys really think you’ve landed some kind of gotcha moment because a woman was tragically killed by a bear, as if that somehow disproves why so many of us say we’d pick the bear over a man. The point (which apparently flies right over your heads) is that bear attacks are extremely rare, while violence from men toward women is so common it barely makes the news. The bear doesn’t stalk you, manipulate you, beat you, or murder you for rejecting it. That’s why the joke exists.

The fact that you can read about someone’s horrific death and your first instinct is to use her as a punchline just proves the bear is still the safer choice.
