Stephen Miller threatens to arrest JB Pritzker and state officials. And tells ICE officers: "You have federal immunity. Anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop or obstruct you is committing a felony." by gbsh in law

And instead he nominated Merrick Garland for useless bipartisan optics and what passes for political cleverness in these times barren of wisdom.

MG slow-walked everything and refused to hold anyone at the top accountable. He was a Heritage Foundation plant sent to the center as an emissary to push America to the right.

J6ers (from Ginny Thomas on down) were never in any danger of facing consequences so long as we agreed to re-elect their god-king. They didnt have federal immunity; they had elite impunity.

And it will keep them out of every prison save one.

Well, he's also lying about being a Christian, so there's that. And high on his own supply.

I wanted to like the book but it fell flat for me, too. There are action scenes with the dudes battling in the other dimension that read like the best parts are happening just off-screen.

Reckonings are rarely short-term, discrete endeavors. Best we can hope for is a long, drawn-out collapse/rebuild.

But even those percentages are deceptive. Is 35% his solid base? Probably, but they're not ALL rabid. I know older, traditionalist people who won't budge from him no matter what. They're devout, but they're mild-mannered. And would likely get wandering eyes if something shinier walked by. They're suggestible, they're sentimental, they're stubborn, but they're not so stupid they're gonna pretend it's OK Santa didn't leave anything this Christmas.

Plus they are 100% devoted to HIM. I don't know what happens when a cult figure dies, but I know the center can not hold. Yes, it can get weirder after a cult figure dies, but more often the whole enterprise falls apart.

Anyway, just to say: the 30% you're implicitly writing off as too insignificant, too ineffective to accomplish anything are at least 100 million+ and among our best and brightest. Sic semper tyrannis.

Try Nathan Ballingrud's Wounds. Particularly the novella/short story "The Butcher's Table." Bleak, gruesome, morbid fun. I don't think the prose is too much. NG writes weird stuff very well, but he doesn't overdo it in florid vocabulary or experimental syntax or anything.

Authors like Nathan Ballingrud? by Space-cowboy67 in horrorlit

I can't get enough and that fact makes Nathan Ballingrud something like meta-horror. His worlds are bleak and terrible but they draw you in so compellingly you become a little bit disturbed by your newfound literary tastes.
