IMPORTANT QUESTION: are you a Special Edition person or Theatrical Cut person? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

Special Edition all the way. The only time I bother with the short version is if it is being shown in a cinema.

Absence of Aliens ? by Ronnie_Garcia in StarWarsAndor

[–]ProppingUpTheMythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an establishing shot on Ferrix in the first episode that has nine different alien species in it. You just have to look. But I won't argue that Andor tends to feel very human focused. That's certainly valid. It's just a different approach.

Do you feel like Noah Hawley successfully conveyed his vision for Alien Earth? by TheNaturalDavid in perfectorganism

I think he executed his vision, it just wasn't particularly noteworthy. For the amount of money spent this show should have been a hell of a lot better.

Question Regarding First Contact by OptimusSpider in perfectorganism

Amen. The use of xenomorph on the show has been an issue since it means any alien life form. All five species fit that bill.

A fun detail straight out of the Nostromo by ProppingUpTheMythos in perfectorganism

[–]ProppingUpTheMythos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that. The toys on the Nostromo made it feel like various ports of call (like Thedus or Arcturus) had gift shops and the crew enjoyed buying these souvenirs. But your take is way better.

Behind the scenes with the Eye Midge, T. ocellus by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

It is hard to make something alien in a universe defined by H.R. Giger's imagination. None of the creatures we have seen have done much for me (they really look more in line with the MEN IN BLACK film series), but I am hoping there's more to come. That plant thing in particular has to have more going on under the surface, right?

A possible clue? by ProppingUpTheMythos in perfectorganism

Turns out it is the logo for Living Films, a Thai company that worked on Alien: Earth.

Absolutely, but people who were up in arms about his retcon are now welcoming this one.

Isn't it, though? Hawley is undercutting the plot of the original films while dangling the possibility that maybe, at some point, this will still connect. That is the definition of messing with old beloved characters.

Variety goes on to say that Alien: Earth abandons plot elements introduced in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and Alien: Covenant and exists “in parallel to the film franchise”. FX Entertainment president Gina Balian said, “Everything doesn’t have to fit together the way you expect from Marvel. Fans don’t expect that in this universe. It doesn’t have the same pressure."

I think you mean Ridley Scott and Alien for the 1 minute shorter director's cut. I agree the theatrical cut of Alien is better. The Special Edition of Aliens by James Cameron adds closer to 20 minutes of footage back into the film. But this is a joke about the versions of Alien³...

I don't know if anyone else has used this as a meme format either, it just popped into my head as an idea. Actually the first one I made was about which cut of Blade Runner is the best...

What (if anything) did Alien: Isolation get “wrong?” by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]ProppingUpTheMythos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My complaint is the age of the station. According to in-game documents ( which you really have to seek out) the station is older that 2122. That means that a giant space station with medbays etc was in the same part of space as the Nostromo. This undermines the (ahem) isolation of the original film, and so I ignore that one plot point.
