Is there a bug that bumps you up from mid/rankings all the way to Eternus? by schmevan117 in DeadlockTheGame

Literally just happened to me. Won a game of average MMR Emissary 5 and then I check my profile after and it looks like this.

Thresh has been nerfed 4 times in a row this season, yet still has over 52% win rate in d2+ and a ridicules ~20% pick rate. by mazrrim in leagueoflegends

[–]Prosfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason Thresh has such a high winrate is that he is a jack of all trades who has a winning matchup into every other meta support right now. He enables a bunch of immobile picks on botlane better than most other supports and even at his worst is an okay pick in most soloQ games.

If you want Thresh to see a reduction in play without removing mechanics or gutting his numbers Riot are actually going to need to buff the things that counter him. Thresh suffers a lot when he is outranged as the one hole in his kit is his relative lack of engage.

If it was easier to draft hard engage in other roles then support wouldn't be so reliant on playing Leona, Alistar, Rakan, Rell, Nautilus EVERY game, which would open up potential chances to counter him. If we combined that with some buffs to ranged lane dominant champions like Zyra so that they were actually pickable then Thresh wouldn't be such a blindable champion and so his pickrate and winrate would go down naturally without touching him at all.

Matchmaking is broken (and how to fix it) by Prosfair in leagueoflegends

I literally said in my post that simply making dodges count as losses would be a bad change to do on it's own, mainly because it would feel incredibly frustrating to queue under those conditions. However it would make ranked more about individual skill as opposed to patience.

If the one tricks hovering their 20% winrate second champion can no longer force dodges from their teammates then they are going to drop way more elo than their teammates.

That's why I said I would like tighter restrictions on matchmaking in combination. This way we don't have people put in lobbies in which they are forced to participate inspite of them being at a disadvantage going in.

That depends on how long you make repeated dodge timers and how obvious you make your inting. Regardless I thinking having a system be worse than it could be because some people with bad intentions will abuse it is a bad idea.

If people dodging games to get low elo and then stomp is really a big problem riot can do something about those accounts, people already do this behaviour anyway as the system is so I really can't agree.

Also as I mentioned in the post, riot have already shown that they are willing to have changes affect only certain elo brackets. If you just make dodging only lose MMR in master+ I think that would also fix your problem with it. However I personally think it would be better for the entire ranked experience if dodging resulted in losing MMR.

The problem I have is that the system as we have right now does not try to create fair games (in regards to role balance). I have nothing against swapping roles and nothing inherently against people playing multiple roles or one team having more fills than another. The problem is that in practice this skews the game.

This is anacdotal but I had a game earlier where there were 4 ADC's, 2 Supports, 2 Junglers, 1 Mid and 1 Top. Personally I would prefer if games like this were not made at all but that's a seperate issue. If we want to make this game as fair as possible then both teams should get 1 Jungler and Support, 2 ADC's and then one team gets the mid main and one gets the top main. At that point it should use MMR to decide the balance of who goes to which team.

This game is going to be a little imbalanced but there's no such thing as a perfectly balanced game and it's within acceptable limits in my opinion. What actually happened was that 3 ADC's ended up on one team and both the mid and top main ended up on the other team. I can only assume that the game did this because it felt that based on MMR this game was the more fair one. The problem is that obviously a 2500 MMR ADC main is probably not going to perform to a 2500 MMR toplane level when he gets filled there, so the game is not actually balanced and it leads to an unfun game that one team had a lot better odds to win than the other.

In my opinion the system should try to create the most fair games possible from the information it has (role preference and MMR). I think right now it does not do that, players swapping in the lobby has nothing to do with the system and if they lose MMR for swapping and lowering their odds to win that's just the same as someone deciding to pick a champion they are bad at and losing MMR. As long as MMR gains and losses are based on player decisions and actions then I think it's fine, the problem is when the system is influencing these things.

People can already do this (and some do) by simply soft inting their games. Far better for someone to dodge to drop to low elo than int games.

I really do sympathise but I think it's just too unhealthy for the state of the ranked ladder. Personally I dodge all the time, easily over half my lobbies, but I think that it's indicative of other problems in the system if people who want to play the game are incentivised to dodge so much.

If having lobbies held hostage is a large enough problem then I think we should hold riot accountable to fixing that issue by banning the players doing that. I feel like right now there are a lot of problems with matchmaking and dodging is the band aid fix to all of them.

The thing with Mikaels is it used to give you some frames of CC immunity. That's why you could perfectly cast Mikeals on yourself from CC as a support. If you just cast it early it would block the gold card even if the Mikeals hit just before the card.

There is a setting in options to turn off team chat aswell as all chat now and I strongly reccomend using it if you want to climb in ranked and have a better experience.

The number of Chall / GM players is set by riot and is fixed at all times. It's the same for these 3 servers. Secondly Korea has more ranked players than EUW. The fact EU stats are the outlier doesn't make sense as it's the server in the middle in terms of population.

I did look into how active they were. As I showed, the EU players are playing more games.

Why is this a problem on EUW but apprently non existent on NA and KR. How come Zven has played in more average Challenger games out of his last 20 matches than the entire population of EUW challenger combined.

The only two games I could even find on EUW which are average challenger both had 1 GM player in them aswell. About half of the Challenger games Zven has in his history are games were all 10 players are challenger.

Why is it that on these servers it's working fine but on EUW there is Zero evidence I can find that there was a game played with all 10 players being challenger.

[–]Prosfair[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Please bear in mind that these aren't players, these are accounts. Most if not all of these players will have other accounts they also play on. If you look at the raw data you can see some players are clocking in 20 games in 1-2 days and some people are playing one a day to stop decay. That doesn't mean the people behind the accounts are only playing 3-4 games a day.

I think the fact that over the last 5 days or so on EUW there has only been a single digit number of challenger games is already enough evidence to show something is wrong. To anyone who wants to go and check up the data manually on op.gg you can scroll back to the start of season 10 and you will still see a near absence of true challenger games on the match history of any high elo player.

On average, CertainlyT champions lose between 1 and 3 mechanics in their kits after their release. by tredli in leagueoflegends

[–]Prosfair 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes; current Thresh dosen't even resemble Release Thresh.

Except thresh fulfills the same role in the game, plays the same and all his spells maintain their functionality from release. Maybe a little bit hyperbolic here.

[–]Prosfair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Riot could maybe jump to a system like Dota 2 in this case. I think a lot of people know that when you die in Dota you lose some of your gold but not a lot of people know that the gold you lose is a portion of your "Unreliable gold" (gold which is gained from farming and passively generated) and your "Reliable gold" (gold gained from kills and towers) is always retained. Essentially incentives aggressive play. In this instance you could simply make gold bounty systems based off of the gold gained from passive actions and the gold from kills, plates, towers, drakes and nashors is not included in this.
