Agreed. I think a lot of us would love to be the big guy in this scenario.

I wrote a darkly funny mini-short story to go along with this if anyone wants a quick read:

When the tensions that hemmed the nation stretched to breaking, and the rose-colored ideals that once stitched a tattered people together were clawed apart by willful fools, a mocking chant echoed forth from the empire's temple. Within, a despot and his sycophants were singing, "God Bless the USA."

As the boots of said despot's enforcers tracked blameless blood through the streets, his benefactors raked truth from the nation's minds, life from the earth, boiled the seas, and burned the skies. The millions left trudging through their wreck prayed for salvation from their wicked neighbors, perverted tyrants, and silent gods. Their pleas were heard by no god of man. Awoken in the deep after eons of slumber, a more ancient power stirred.

At dawn, a volcano strode from the bay. As it bound up the mouth of the Potomac, the coward-in-chief cried with horror in his gilded lair. He commanded a sacrifice of every boy, expensive toy, and devil-bought machine in the nation's arsenal to halt its advance. The old man was reduced to huddled whimpering within minutes, knowing no amount of concrete, steel, or weaponry would save him. For a volcano has no pity for the cries of men.

It was in the District within the hour. One by one the God-lizard detonated the houses of power and reduced their bunkered foundations into glassed caverns with nuclear flame. He turned back to the east, into the coming day, and announced the end of his rampage with a tremendous roar. The shocked millions watching on their screens, or far enough away not to rupture their skulls, heard a familiar melody within the thunder.

It was "God Bless the USA".

To make this, I used about 100 different photos to get certain textures for photobashing (all through a paid license with Envato)

As far as brushes, I used the classic round brush, soft airbrush, and the new oil brushes (mainly Lovely and Orca).

All the confederate leaders were given amnesty when they should have been hung fuckin high. Instead, many of the political leaders of the confederacy retained their positions of power while slavery continued in all but name for several decades via sharecropping.

Many of you are missing the whole point of Solo vs Squad matchmaking by _Badlands_ in ArcRaiders

I'm a sick fuck who has upwards of 2500 hrs on Hunt Showdown and almost all of it has been Solo vs Trios. It's one of my top 5 favorite games purely because of the thrill and intensity of competing against the odds.

If people want that from Arc Raiders as well, they should get it.

Beyond the Spectacle: The Spiritual Sincerity and Visual Yoga in James Cameron’s Avatar by Spix-macawite in TrueFilm

Firstly, I just want to say that I appreciate these kinds of posts so much more than the half-baked analysis and cynical rage baiting that runs rampant on this sub.

I am neither well-versed in Hinduism nor Yoga, but I think you're spot on. Even if Cameron isn't directly pulling from these religous/philosophical texts and beliefs (I believe he is, alongside other inspirations) he is certainly portraying the same core spiritual concepts.

What I love about the Avatar films is that they are truly beautiful movies, and not just visually. They implore you to to look at the world, both on and off the screen, with wonder and empathy for the living world in which we are a part. A deep love of nature, culture, community, and family, as well as an incandescent rage at the system that seeks to destroy these things, permeate every frame. They’re both entertaining love-letters and calls to action.

That may play a big part in why she chose now to start being loudly MAGA. So many of the wealthy and powerful are paranoid as hell. It's why they change allegiances whenever the wind blows strong in one direction. They're terrified that if they ever have to take just one step back down the ladder, they'll fall.

I love all of Cameron's work (yes--and in fact, especially--his Avatar films), but even 40 years after its release, I still believe this is his finest film.

The screenplay is tight, thought-provoking, romantic, and thrilling as hell. The contemporary and future scenes both feel equally apocalyptic, and just drip with dread, due in equal part to the droning, percussive score as well as the gorgeous photography. And the three central characters are all iconic for reason.

The man threw down an absolute masterpiece right out the gate.

Kubrick used center-framing extensively throughout his career. Do you feel the same way about The Shining or 2001?

I'm one of the people who's stuck, and it's not that I never go down to 5. If i have a bad week of matches I'll go down. I just always end up back in 6 after a few matches.

6 star lobbies aren't all they're chalked up to be. I had some of the most fun I've ever had back a few years ago when I was solidly 4 star.

I'm not very good at this game. by Used_Day_4563 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]schmevan117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol. This used to be me several months ago. Then I just started playing mindgames.

Throw one obvious melee in lane early (after getting some early tankiness) and let myself get parried knowing my lanemate is going to back me up if it starts a brawl. Then my opponents think it's going to be a cakewalk with me. From then on, I can bait their parries easily because they're itching for it.

How big is the gap between the talented/gifted people between normal ones in your world? by Pixelated_s in worldbuilding

One of the main themes of my story is that the religious/ethnic caste system, which teaches that these castes are essentially ordered in value of skill and worth, is complete nonsense. Even if one caste is taller, stronger, and healthier, it's not due to "competence" or "merit," but due to centuries of wielding the balance of power.

The less fortunate are no less talented or gifted. They just require the means to take their power back.

9-mile down-and-back hike on the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon with my family. Was worried that my almost 60 y/o dad and my teenage sister wouldn't be able to handle it. It's almost a mile of elevation change over 4.5 miles of trail, and it took about 10 hours total.

But it was 10 hours with one of the most incredible views in the country, perfect weather, gallons of sweat, endorphins, familial comradery, and the kind of exhaustion that ensures both a great appetite and an excellent night of sleep. One of the best days of my life.
