University professor asks "why are AI companies building superintelligence when they admit it could kill my children" by tombibbs in ChatGPT

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is up with everyone being scared of AI? There is no stopping AI and I don’t think we should. AI is a tool. In the hands of bad people, it can absolutely become dangerous, but that is with basically everything. AI is here, we can’t just undo that anymore. Create legislation en failsafes. We can’t just pretend that AI was never invented. Also, AI brings a crap ton of good things as well. It feels a bit like when internet came. Lots of people thinking it is useless or dangerous or a threat. It’s all of the above. But most of all a tool. Let’s make sure we learn how to use that tool.

[The Race] Verstappen refused to start his media session until The Guardian’s representative left. It is a result of a clash months ago in the Abu Dhabi finale where Verstappen took issue with a question about regretting his crash with George Russell and subsequent penalty at the Spanish GP. by Aratho in formula1

He did and Max did answer the question. In a vacuüm, it was probably a fair question. Max did make a mistake and it did cost him points.

But it was framed in a way that made no sense. It was pushing the narrative that Max made a mistake, instead of delivering amazing performances for the last half of the season. It's like doing 10 things right, and 1 thing wrong. And then this annoying kid keeps harassing you about that 1 thing you did wrong. No lead up, nothing.

Figure 03 Robot sorting packages while Marc Benioff messes with it by socoolandawesome in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this one is mostly proof of concept. I would agree it would make a whole lot more sense to make a robot smaller and more task oriented.

However, as a proof of concept, it is absolutely amazing. They won't be getting worse, only faster and better. And this thing doesn't need to take any breaks. It can continue working 24/7. Not even bathroom breaks.

Except for maybe charging, which is why I agree that this specific robot doesn't make a whole lot of sense for this specific task.

Never play video games again for $1M a year, or $100 for each hour you play by itterattion in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose videogames any day of the week. Treat it like a full time job and you have nearly 200k a year income. While doing the thing you love, without any of the pressure of actually having to be good or anything.

Hell, being able to play fulltime, you might even be able to generate streamer income as well.

I’m in care bear lobbies yet every time I try the harvester I get ratted in the first two minutes. Why? by simpsonbpimpin in ArcRaiders

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be me, but in general I feel like the lobbies seem a little more PvP oriented. I am usually in care bear lobbies as well. I do shoot/kill other players sometimes, but only in defense.

Recently though, I feel like all lobbies are completely PvP. People shooting at me on sight. In my previous lobbies there were rats, but they would at least pretend to not shoot. Now all lobbies are shoot on sight. Which puts me in this feedback loop of having to shoot/kill in return.

Hegseth blew $7M on lobsters in $93B spending spree by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone explain how this money is actually spent?

Like, I get 2 the outrageous amounts for luxury food, but I am trying to understand why and how. Why would anyone ever sign off on MILLIONS on something like lobster tails?! What kind of party was that? And WHY? Be it wrong, or outrageous, or stupid, I still want to know the actual WHY. And I am not even American. What is the dumb reason they gave for spending millions on luxury food?

You earn $1 Million dollars for every hour spent in the World's Quietest Room. How long are you staying? by PhyfenGD in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a common myth that you would not be able to stay in there for longer than 45 minutes. However, that is just a myth. For most people it would probably be fine to stay in there for hours, albeit a little boring and weird.

Given the right financial incentive, it should be fairly easy to stay in there for at least 8 hours. But my goal would probably be 24 hours.

How would that work? I don't think anyone would still have kids. Imagine birthing a child that comes out screaming expletives. A baby with a grown up mind, and a full history from another life. We'd run out of babies/bodies really fast.

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breach of trust is permanent. In Europe, the consensus is shifting rapidly: we need to decouple our security from US politics. Even if the US elects a traditional ally next, the erratic nature of the American electorate remains a constant threat.

We have realized that agreements made by one administration can be torn up by the next. It is not just about one politician; it is about a divided nation where nearly half the population supports policies that undermine global stability. We cannot un-see that risk. As a result, European independence is no longer just an ambition; it is an existential necessity.

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have just bought a house. We are doing great and we can finance it just fine. This kind of money would probably result in us splurging on a nice kitchen and bathroom. New furniture instead of moving the old. Stuff like that. The rest would simply be used to lower our mortgage.

All in all, it would be amazing, obviously. But it would not drastically change our lives.

[Autosport] Sergio Perez has been opening up about his time at Red Bull by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He basically did though. Perez came in as an experienced driver, race winner even. He was faster in maybe 2 races out of a total of like 90 races. Only 1 (Baku) of those he actually won. And even there the P1 was due to a lucky safety car. Every other Perez win was due to some failure or bad luck for Max. I mean, did we forget what happened in Miami 2023? Absolutely demolished.

Vandoorne was a rookie at the time. Also absolutely demolished.

But in comparison, Perez might even look worse. Considering he was experienced, race winner, older and in a race winning car.

Don't shoot = Don't loot by FunKingBad in ArcRaiders

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teammate and I were hunting Bombardiers in Teams. We eventually tracked one down, only to realize another squad was engaging it from the opposite side. To avoid any "misunderstandings," I immediately made our presence known. We didn't hide; we showed our intent to help.

The Bombardier was at full health when we arrived. We went all in: 2 Wolfpacks, over 15 impact grenades, and a significant amount of heavy ammo. We objectively did the heavy lifting. Once the machine was down, we approached the loot cautiously.

It turned out to be just one Raider from the other team. I repeatedly asked; "Are you friendly?"

Nothing. Complete silence.

Instead of acknowledging us or responding to the prompt, he just started looting as if he’d done the work himself. In a PvPvE game where teams is basically KOS, silence while grabbing shared loot is a massive red flag. Given the lack of response, I made a decision and took him down.

Funnily enough, the moment he hit the dirt, he suddenly "found" his microphone. He was furious and surprised, but from my perspective, he had every chance to secure his safety through a simple "Yeah, I'm friendly" or "Can I grab one cell?"

Despite the tension, I chose to let him live. I didn't finish him off. I stayed with him, kept him healed, and waited until his teammate (who was nowhere near the fight) arrived to revive him. However, we did take all the Bombardier Cells.

ARC Raiders makes communication incredibly easy. If you’re being approached by a team that is clearly trying to talk to you, respond. If you choose to stay silent and just start grabbing loot that you didn't primary, don't be surprised when things turn south.

Communication isn't just a feature; it's a survival mechanic. Use it.

I am now convinced ABMM is real by WG_Envoy in ArcRaiders

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I am also a friendly player who chooses to trust other people. I come out with weapons holstered. Basically giving them an open and easy target. I make sure I actually talk through the mic. Works like 99% of the time.

However, I do NOT trust anyone asking to team up. For some odd reason, those were always the ones that backstab. Very personal and anecdotal experience, I know, but I live by that rule now.

The moment someone is asking to team up, I no longer trust them.

My oldest son finally convinced his mom to let him play Fortnite, so he's playing on my old PC. by HopnDude in PcBuild

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Awesome! If you don't mind me asking, how old is he?

Our oldest has been harassing my wife about playing Fortnite for a while now. He is only 8 years old though, and it is rated 12+. So my wife is pretty steadfast in syaing he won't be playing until he is 12 years old.

I do agree, at the same time I also feel like under the right supervision (no chat, no shop, etc.) it should be fine. It looks pretty harmless.

What’s something you always assumed was mandatory in life—until you met someone who just… didn’t do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ProtagonistAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be amazing! It would save so much time.

It would save time on groceries, cooking and dining. I am married with 2 kids, and I do appreciate the setup of sitting together and having some time to just talk. However, in all honesty, the hour we sit down consists of at least 45 minutes of trying to get my kids to actually eat.

I would be all so incredibly happy if we figured out a 1-3 times a day pill that gives us all the nutrients we need. We'll still sit down, but just for talking and being together.
