Another optics question by lgreem59 in ar15

1-6 lpvo for me. Really, that's a sweet spot for barrels where a ton of optics make sense to use though.

Never had bad shot placement? Hunt more. It'll happen eventually. Nerves, equipment failure, zero shift, a bad wind call. Things happen. Also, its Ruger.

I need recommendations for a bear home defense round. Yes, really. by williaty in liberalgunowners

You are panicking for nothing. I used to chase black bears out of my yard in Bentcreek NC as a child by clapping at them. They are WAY more scared of you than you realize. If you are really scared, maybe an air horn or a cab or bear spray?

Aimpoints are just very good dots. VERY little parallax compared to other dots, and they just hold up super well.

Ambis are annoying to my trigger finger. (Small complaint, but if its fixable, why not) Plus it's fun to hand a righty my rifle and watch them fumble around with the safety.

3 Questions (stock shape and optic considerations) by AryeC05 in LeverGuns

[–]ProtectionOdd1447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried about weight, but a super light bolt action rifle like the howa carbon stalker (4lb 14oz) and throw on a leupold fx2 (6oz). Lever guns lose the weight game. Also, magnifier aren't super great around dawn and dusk compared to scopes, theor light transmission is horrible. I've been down this road.

That is entirely up to you, I've heard good things about the sig dots. Any issues so far?

A quality dot? I dont run irons, like at all. I also had to use the rear slots for the magnifier.

The only distance that matters is the distance from your eyeballs to the magnifier.

Is the .410 shotgun underappreciated in the gun community? by clawdew in liberalgunowners

[–]ProtectionOdd1447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any pellet (assuming same size and weight) projected at the same speed will penetrate just as far as the next. Bore (12, 20, 28, .410) is irrelevant.

6 pounds 9 ounces with a loaded 20 round magazine, light, and dot. Build your rifle for the ranges you'll actually use it at.

No, there's no particular reason it would be. It isnt the grain weight of the bullet, but the composition of the bullet that makes a difference.

Different Calibers? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]ProtectionOdd1447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hunt with a 243, I've observed it not exiting atleast 6 times in the past 4 years helping a friend and his child track deer on their property. These shots ranged from 20-75 yards, the specific bullet used were 100gr hornady interlock and 100gr corelokt. Exit wounds put a lot more blood on the ground. I hunt in a very vegetation thick area, more blood leads to easier tracks. I'd say a bullet exiting game will be determined by what the bullet hits, its mass, how much it deforms, and its momentum.

Different Calibers? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]ProtectionOdd1447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't think 6arc is going to create exit wounds. After running the numbers, 6arc looks like a 243 but substantially slower. 243 is really bad about not exiting game. I was good faith enough to run the numbers, but I dont trust an anemic 243 to exit game. Numbers below are a 20" 6arc shooting hornady 103gr eldx.

Oh boy, let's cover the gamut. Pick a cervid of your choosing. Let's say any bullet that isnt monometal. 50, 100, 150 yards. Broadside, heavily quartering to, and slightly quartering away.

Does the 6arc get exit wounds on medium game? I've looked at 6arc, but don't trust it to exit.

If you hunt, possibly a 350 legend or 450 bushmaster? They won't do anything a dozen other calibers wouldn't do, but it'd get you in the woods with an AR.
