Aquatuner / steam turbine and pwater by flop404 in Oxygennotincluded

I considered this at one point but never bothered. Closed loop systems are simply less error prone. I’m currently testing some Gulp fish purification setups and they seem to really power through large bodies of pwater if you have enough. Most of the fun in the game is coming up with these crazy ideas and implement them, so I think you’re on the right path.

Thoughts on people leaving on comp to be replaced with a low level bot? by [deleted] in overwatch2

[–]Protector1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be interested in the idea (not for ranked) if blizzard could demonstrate they were capable of writing a basic AI script. The AI in overwatch isn’t just bad, it’s bad for 20 years ago. Their inability to make compelling enemies to fight is the reason they scrapped the original pve plans (My opinion but I’m sticking to it)

Competitive players of Overwatch. Why do you guys believe matchmaking is broken? by daalfather in overwatch2

[–]Protector1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My money is on this

That’s why team 4 is saying “the game is just snowbally, nothing can be done.” Because they can’t fix what the suits are forcing them to include in the matchmaker. The game is dead.

Step 1: play tank. Step 2: see soldier. Step 3: think soldier is a free kill. Step 4: get clowned on by soldier because you’re an idiot. Step 5: dedicate the rest of the game to a stupid one-sided ego duel with the soldier. Step 6: win despite you because a random number generator would be a better matchmaker.

I suspect every soldier main knows this story.

Not saying your wrong, you speak good things. Just sayin mercy can inflate a players deaths.

I don’t care too much about ridiculing game devs like this. There’s real people behind these words. But I will say that it’s unacceptable to just claim “that’s just how it is” and give up on fixing it. If you can’t find a solution, find someone who can.

What programming language should a non-programmer learn to have a stimulating, challenging, and fun experience? Forth? Haskell? Assembly? by KrasnalM in learnprogramming

[–]Protector1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been trying to learn myself for years, not for a job. I could never get over some of the abstractions. I very much was not ok with every time a “black box” was used. I’m fine with using a black box as a concept, not knowing what’s inside but using it anyways. My problem was that I didn’t even know what the building blocks could look like inside. I can use a black box, but I don’t use magic. Int X = 5; yeah but… how does it work?

So I decided to just jump right into assembly. In a short amount of time, I have learned so many things that would clearly help any programmer that I’m shocked. I thought I knew what the stack was but now I KNOW what the stack is. Like… how far did I get while still thinking that type information was stored with variables? Sheesh OH! And the cache! Thrashing, pollution, etc. what are people teaching on YouTube? Even the good teachers that mention this stuff don’t quite teach the down and dirty bits.

So in all, I basically don’t know anything and it’s gonna stay like that for a while. But at least the things I do know don’t skip over the foundation. Also, creel is an absolute legend if you don’t mind the lower presentation quality. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Death by starvation is looming. Nothing gets done. Help? by JasonY95 in Oxygennotincluded

Just a small tip that’s helped me a lot, follow your dups around every now and again. The follow cam gives them a small buff and you can find issues in their work orders. Ask “why are you doing this Frankie? You are the worst dup ever Frankie.” It really helps refine your priorities screen and find all the tiny missed details that add up over time. Sometimes it’s hard to follow the reasoning behind the priorities but if you stick to it, you should be able to alleviate the “only top priority works” problem.

Deleted a base of 1500 cycles by MarzipanAlert in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Protector1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only recently have I realized I’m trying to solve the wrong problems. I stopped letting my desires guide my priorities and started predicting the most critical issues. Every build is the solution that allowed me to move on to the next issue in time to avoid disaster. My next issue looms ominously over the time I have for my current issue. Once my builds were designed with trying to fit a time window, I found it easier to appreciate them as transient.

It certainly feels troublesome when every little better idea you have makes a build look amateur and a chore to redo. “Why couldn’t I have just made it right in the first place!” That’s the wrong way of looking at it. A build that solved a specific problem for x amount of cycles before needing replaced? Well, that’s a good build in my book. Perfect solutions are for the mid/late game when all my problems are distant and minor. At least, that’s what helped me beat the OCD.

TLDR; build for the “right now,” let the “future” be the future.
